I really enjoyed the art in this book. It is a sweet book about friendship. There wasn't a lot of text, but it was separated into different sections which continued the story. I thought it might be a little long for some younger kids.

Tiny Fox and Great Boar is a children's graphic novel written and illustrated by Berenika Kotomycka, and translated into English by Natalia Kreczmar. Tiny Fox lives alone beneath his apple tree in the distant hills. He is a happy little animal, busy looking after himself and his foxy things. Then one day, a Great Boar appears and moves in under the apple tree, bringing with him a time of change and adventure. Is Tiny Fox ready?

Tiny Fox and Great Boar is a nice early graphic novel about friendship, doing new things, and bravery. Tiny Fox and Great Boar are an odd couple, in the best way possible. They do things a little differently. and occasionally clash. However, when push comes to shove they are there for each other. As they explore the world in search of food Fox needs to step out of his comfort zone, and Boar is there for him. I liked the story, and the art was cute, but not really my style. It seemed a little sloppy, but that could be because I was reading a digital galley via Netgalley. It was cute, and told the story well, but it just did not impress me. I will admit to being a graphic novel fan, but having preferred art styles, and while it was nice it just did not fit my particular preferences.

This is what I'd imagine it would be like if Frog and Toad were a graphic novel. Rather philosophical but in an accessible way. THe art is less refined and cartoony than we typically see but it's stylized nature suits the text.

Really lovely children's picture book/graphic novel. Pretty painted illustrations and heartwarming friendship.

Do you like this book?
Yeah! Because it has a fox and a piggy! I really like foxes. And there was snow and a tree with leaves falling!

What's your favorite part of the book?
When they meet an owl and when they play in the snow. I want to play in the snow.

What do you think of the cover?
I like how little the fox is! It's so cute!

Do you want me to read it again?
Yeah!

Tiny Fox and Great Boar is a cute little graphic novel about a fox and a boar who become friends.
They stay together through the winter and then run off together to try to find food. They get into a fight because they want to go two different ways, but when they try to go the two different ways they decide they can't leave each other.
The boar also encourages the fox to try new things and to be brave.

I think this is a great book because it teaches about friendship, and about how even if they fight, they decide they can't leave each other and won't go off alone. And it also teaches about encouragement, being brave, and to not always have to follow the same path. That there is other great things out there.

The artwork is absolutely beautiful, and it's such a simple and adorable book for children.

Also foxes are my all time favorite animals.

How clever to teach children about this very timely subject! Perfect two animals to portray the story! Well done!

'Tiny Fox and Great Boar: There' with story and illustrations by Berenika Kolomycka is a story about animals, but it's also about getting along with others.

Tiny Fox lives under an apple tree and is happy until a great Boar decides to live there too. This makes Fox unhappy at first, until Boar leaves for a while, then Fox realizes how lonely life is. There are other stories about the seasons and finding a scarf and making decisions when both decision makers are so strong-willed.

I liked these cute short stories. I think these would be fun for early readers or even pre-readers. The art is also on the fun side. I liked the story of these two unlikely friends and the gently lessons they can teach all of us.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Europe Comics and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

I thought the illustrations for this one were really interesting! Some of the original sketch marks are still included, so you can see how a few of the pictures evolved and were created over time. It also gives the appearance of movement, which is awesome all on its own.

As for the story, it was good. I think the author shows the importance of friendship, and that being alone can be hard. A single friend has the power to change all of that, but you have to be willing to compromise and make adjustments.

I wish there had been more of a story, but Fox and Boar have very limited conversations over the course of a few seasons. As an adult, I could see what their problems were and how they likely needed to deal with them, but I'm not sure it's something a child would easily grasp. My son was more focused on the things they were doing, and not the things being left unsaid. He may have been a smidge too young for this comic-like book, but he did enjoy it overall.

What a sweet little book about change and a growing friendship. Tiny Fox lives under an apple tree when Great Boar shows up and makes himself at home. At first, Little Fox is quite put out. Things are different and that's no fun. After awhile, they realize they have gotten fond of one another without trying. It's a sad, sweet little story and is beautifully illustrated in all the colors of autumn. I believe this book would speak to children that while change is sometimes scary and hard, you won't know what are you missing out on until you try something new.

Thank you to Net Galley and to the publisher for the opportunity to review.

From the Polish branch of Egmont – via a publisher making a concerted effort to get everyone within reach of the best of European comics – comes this book, featuring several chapters in the life of a fox and a boar, who end up unlikely friends when the boar moves in under what the fox thinks of as his apple tree. But they form friendship enough, sharing a scarf, combining to make a joint adventure – and then it stops, for this is clearly only half the story. With short books such as this, whatever the asking price, I do wish we'd get the whole thing in one go. Yes, splitting it into two volumes does mean higher sales figures, and the artist/author deserves all the renown that can bring, based on these efforts, but I was left frustrated at the potential of not seeing the rest, and so would any child with a grasp of narrative. Finally, I think I'd prefer it if the narrator used the routine squared-off boxes, as opposed to circular speech bubbles.

Fox spends most of his time alone and quite enjoys it. One day, Boar appears. Fox is not at all sure what to do about this, if anything. Eventually, Boar leaves. Fox finds that, to his surprise, he misses his companion. Boar returns and the two become friends, but soon run out of food. Together, they embark on a journey to find more - and discover along the way how much nicer it is to have adventures and try new things when there is a good friend along. The art is lovely.

A great story about making new friends, sharing, and new experiences. Sometimes kids get nervous about change, and this book is perfect to read with them to show them that change can be good. Would make a nice read for the beginning of the new school year.

An excellent book that I requested for my grandkids who listened attentively as I read the the story about the tiny fox and the great boar. A story of friendship and Loneliness which both kids loved. As is usually the norm for children’s books, the book was beautifully illustrated. A sign of any good book is when the children asked for it again, immediately after the initial read and this was such a book. Highly recommend.

Tiny Fox and Great Boar is a cute and lovely story about a fox and a boar. These two end up living under the same tree, but they don't really like each other until they both go away in turns and they miss each other. Thus it's better to be together! So now the fox and the boar decide to go on a journey because of the change of seasons and their journey is about small victories and friendship. The comic is very simple and thoughtful and so utterly cute. It doesn't say a lot, but what it does, is warm and nice making your hearth thump. The animals are simple and there's hardly any text, but the comic has a lot of expressions and heartwarming moments in it.

The art is beautiful and the water color style works well with the atmosphere. The color world is that of autumn and the seasons change and so does the colors - or the hues and such. The lively line art and as lively colors make this deeper and vivider than you could imagine. I'm just slightly disappointed with the ending, though it feels like there could be continuation perhaps? I would've wanted to read more!

This is a children's graphic novel about friendship. Tiny Fox doesn't want friends, at first, but Great Boar sort of grows on him, and he realizes that he misses him when he isn't around.

The pictures are soft and beautiful.

There isn't much more of a plot other than that. It is the understanding that friendships change and grow, and that there is nothing to fear.

Sweet gentle story for kids.

This book was a wonderful selection for younger readers. The artwork is lovely, and the writing is just right--not too much, not too sparse. The story itself is simple, with a strong message about friendship and stepping outside of one's comfort-zone. I would highly recommend.

This is a DARLING story of friendship and adventure and caring for each other.
I thought it was terribly sweet, and my six year old granddaughter said she loved it.
She approved of their friendship, and asked questions about why Tiny Fox was afraid to cross the road. The book has great messages about being a good friend, and working together, and being there for one another. My granddaughter kept talking about how Big Boar always came back for Tiny Fox, and how Tiny Fox should have known that Big Boar would always return. I loved the theme that both a simple life and unknown adventures are always better with a friend.

I definitely recommend this book, and feel happy from reading it to her.

Many thanks to NetGalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for a review.

This is a really charming little picture book. The illustrations are all cute and a little quirky.

The actual story being told here is a little basic but it does still have a nice underlying tale of unusual but enduring friendship. There's a little lesson for younger children in there about getting along and appreciating one another which is all fine.

The reason this book gets a four star rating is for the artwork it could inspire in children. This could easily be used to generate paintings for use when teaching a whole range of topics. I would use this book as a jumping off point for teaching painting and colour mixing techniques for reception/year 1, seasons, friendships (SEAL type learning), animals and habitats or as a story board to inspire children's own writing.

Any book for children that is so easily adaptable for teaching is a good book by my ratings. The fact that this one happens to feature some cute little critters is just a bonus.

Tiny Fox lives under a tree, all alone and okay with that. A boar comes along and for a while things are fine, until Fox resents this intrusion into his home. But then Boar goes away and Fox realizes he misses his new friend. All these confusing emotions! Then a scarf gets stuck in the tree and teaches life lessons.
It’s definitely cute, and kids might learn something from it. “Worthwhile” would probably be a good word for it.
Simple watercolor art, nice but no big deal.
3.5 pushed up to 4/5

Our titular characters are Fox, who loves his tree, and Boar who enters his life like quite unexpectedly when he decides to sit under the tree with him.

Fox begins to struggle with the realisation and adaptation with sharing his home and games with Boar. This is a book about getting a new sibling. There's also a lovely message about sharing and helping each other through difficult times.

So it's interesting that this book could be applicable to children with new-born siblings as well as older ones. However, there will be fights. And sometimes, you receive a little help.

Their relationship reminded me of Mr Frodo and Sam. The illustrations glow with a rough, childlike scratch. I'm not entirely sure if they provide an atmosphere that will attract or put children off.

Conclusion
Ultimately this picture book left me unsatisfied, although it was passable enough to enjoy. The contents of the book don't really include any new revelations.
