An overall okay story for me. I did find it a bit middling but I imagine that's because swashbucklers aren't my particular cup of tea.
ARC provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This ended up not being to my taste. "Submarine pirates in a dystopian future where humanity lives underwater" sounds great, but the writing was awkward (at times VERY awkward), and the author does that thing where they constantly a choose a word that ALMOST, but doesn't quite, fit. (The equivalent of nails on a chalkboard to a reader's sense of story immersion.) Also, for a swashbuckling sci-fi adventure, the pacing was surprisingly slow.
This was an accidental download, but I felt a bit bad about it, so I decided to read a few chapters just in case.
The cover is gorgeous, and the premise seems alright, but I’ve discovered that swashbuckling Pirate stories aren’t really my cup of tea, so I won’t be continuing, apologies to all involved.
Thanks to Kelly Fallows, Matador, and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
