Point of view wise this was a complicated story. A lot of things are happening and it took me some time to find out the first person chapters where Gio. The other characters tell parts of how they experienced things too.
There are a lot of interesting things happening in this book grabbing back to the title of the book.
Besides the normal struggle everyone has with trying to make a good life educational and work wise this group of people are struggling with the judgement on skin colour too.
I found it interesting to read about the challenges depending on the tone of your skin. How light or dark your skin is made it easier or harder to get chances.
There is an unique voice in this book and I enjoyed reading it. The story line was a difficult one to keep up with though. Jumping from past to present and between characters without a clear indication.
