Great for fans of the Caillou series! When Caillou's appetite is off, his mom takes him to the store to shop for the ingredients he wants so he can help prepare the meal. She is able to remind him of how his tastes have changed while they shop. I like the underlying message here very much and appreciate the reinforcement of the fact that reluctant eaters who help cook are often more invested in eating. The illustrations are bright and colorful and will appeal to preschool age children.
Caillou is a popular TV show for young children for those who aren't aware, and most children adore his character. But in this story, Caillou is a reluctant eater of new things! He won't try new foods because .......new! His mommy is one smart cookie! She allows him to choose and help prepare foods into a special soup.
As a speech language pathologist who works with young children with food aversions and preferences, this book could be helpful to parents whose children are reluctant eaters. The text is typically written for a book based on TV characters, but does have a message. The artwork for the book is amazing. I would recommend this as a four star book.
Thank you to #NetGalley and the publisher for a pre-publication ebook in exchange for an honest review.
Cute and fun read. My kids love Caillou. The pages were very colorful and it made for a good bed time story for my girls. I would recommend to other parents of kids who are fans of the show.
