Hey....so Mel and Abi went to Uni together...they had a wild time...then, after a one night stand Mel falls pregnant, she leaves Uni and makes a life for herself with her son Liam...along the way meets and marries Ben and has 2 girls.....she never hears from Abi again BUT keeps an eye on her via the internet as she is a B list TV star....then she receives a FB request...then a ‘must meet up’....next thing Mel invites her stay for the weekend ( things are not going well for Abi ).....Mel ‘Invited her in’ and she stayed, boy did she stay....to say she unleashed chaos is not an exaggeration...Mel is in awe, giddy, reckless and reliving her uni days BUT Abi has a plan...a big plan...an audacious plan...that brings Mel crashing down from her haze of happiness....Abi intends to control Mel’s family and not in the way you ( and I ) thought!!!!
I detested Abi!!! A Manipulator with a capital M, she shocked and repelled me....but as in all things there is always more to a story than meets the eye...and in this case as the story unfolds the shocks and revelations keep a coming
A brutally wonderful story with characters to despise and love and sides to firmly take!
Edgy and dark but told in a chatty way from different perspectives
I have to admit to finding the first few chapters hard going but then the story took off and took off with no holds barred
Loved it
10/10 5 stars
As all Adele Parks' books, I Invited Her In is very readable. The story pulls you in straight away with engaging writing style. However, nothing much happens in the first half and it becomes quite boring and repetitive. The second half isn't much better, with events and characters' actions becoming quite bizarre. The main twist is obvious from the outcome and nothing surprising really happens. This book is a quick and easy read but not one I would recommend.
Many thanks to Netgalley and HQ publishers for the ARC.
This book absolutely gripped me as it is it story of two friends who met at university, went their seperate ways, lived very different lives then out of the blue one of them asks if she could come and visit due to her separating from her husband. It is absolutely something that could happen to anyone. It is so easy to open your door to an old friend but after 17 years how do you really know that person?
This story was not only about friendship but secrets and revenge and is a must of a read. In this day and age of social media it is so easy to get in touch with old friends but is also scary as to where it can lead.
This is the first Adele Parks book I have read but will definetly be looking for more.
A truly gripping psychological roller coaster of a ride.
I will be writing a further review on other ites when this book has been released.
This book got off to a really slow start and I found it to be a long read. The final third was where it became more interesting but having guessed the main two plot twists ahead of the reveals I found this book to be quite a slog.
This was my first read by Adele Parks and I've heard really good things. Whilst I didn't necessarily enjoy this book I'd be keen to give another a go.
Thanks to NetGalley and Adele Parks for my free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I have read most of Adele's earlier books and loved them, so I was really pleased to see that she had a new one out and Wow I was not disapppinted!
From start to finish I found I Invited Her In very hard to put down. This really is a gripping read and had me thinking what would I do? Adele writes her characters so well and has proved once again what a brilliant author she is.
Gripping, completely compelling and highly recommended. I can't wait to read more in this genre from Adele Parks.
Overall I feel this book deserves 4 stars. It took me a while to get into but it was a gripping read once it got going. There is a lot to this storyline. I guessed most of what was going to happen. The writing style meant that it was still a good read.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.
3.5 stars
I mostly enjoyed this but I didn't really find any of the characters to be believable, it was a little bit too clichéd and obvious.
I liked the different perspectives, especially Liam and Ben. It would have been nice to have more of Tanya's story though, she was such an important character.
Overall it was entertaining and I will recommend as it was an interesting concept.
This was the first book by Adele Parks that I have read and I was gripped. The story starts with Mel, a busy Mum that suffers the trials and tribulations of a seemingly normal family life. Mel is a thoroughly likeable character but the reconnection with a university friend, Abigail, turns her life upside down with repercussions for the entire family.
This story is an emotional rollercoaster, full of human flaws and you may be surprised at who you empathise with. The plot is engaging and is a definite page turner with a twist in the tail. So if you're looking for a good read, try this.
Couldn't put this book down. It draws you in and you just need to keep reading.
Mel is happily married to Ben, with her son and their two girls when, after 17 years, Abi (a friend from uni) gets in contact. She is returning back to England from the states after a failed marriage. Mel invites her to stay and life is never the same for her or her family again.
Just be careful of who you invite in!!
I just Love this author Adele Parks. So when I saw her new book to read I smiled with joy.
Her new book "I Invited Her In" was very slow to start with but then "Bang" it all came alive, with lots of Twists and Turns with a OMG ending. Brilliant!
Mel and Abi were best friends at Uni, and shared everything, Mel’s becomes pregnant which was not planned from a one night stand and everything goes on hold and she drops out of Uni. They both drift away and live their lives so differently but are friends on Social Media and they never contact each other.
However, Seventeen years later, Mel receives an unexpected Email from her old friend Abi.
All the memories of them being best friends and at Uni come flooding back to Mel. What does Abi want????
Mel is very happy and is married to Ben. She has a handsome son who is now seventeen called Liam and two beautiful little girls called Abi and Imogen. Her life is very chaotic and she couldn't be happier.
Abi has everything. She followed her lover from Uni to LA who she finally married him. Abi is having a life full parties, fun and living in Luxury and has everything you could dream of. Abi has a well paid job and is very famous.
Until she finds her Husband in bed with his PA who is a lot younger than Abi.
Abi's world falls apart, she always thought they would be together forever. Seventeen years with Rob and nothing to show for it.
Mel reads the unexpected email from Abi and she finds out that Rob and Abi have split up and she is coming back to the UK to heal. Mel invites her old best friend into her home so she can heal with her family around her, hoping this will help Abi.
Best friends together again all under the same roof with her family........sharing a glass of wine, memories and so much more!!!!!!
At first it all looks rosey between them and then their relationship starts to change.
What does Abi want? and Why?
Phew, Just Brilliant after you get past the first few chapters. I so love this author and the way she write. Its written so beautifully and I just want more especially how it ended........."Come on Adele there's got to be another book!!!"
My thanks to Adele Parks, NetGalley and HQ for providing me with a copy of this book.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Not my usual genre but will be on the lookout for more of the same.
Will recommend the author to friends and family, and eagerly await more material
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book. Not read much from Adele but was a good read. Not a friend I'd want. Bit patchy in places but all good and fab ending
I really enjoy Adele Parks as an author, so was looking forward to her new book, I Invited Her In. When Mel's old friends Abi emails after nearly twenty years, Mel is excited to see her old friend again. Abi's life has taken a turn for the worse and she arrives into Mel's family to lick her wounds from her broken marriage.
As I read about Mel and Abi's younger days, I took a quick guess at how the plot was going to turn out, and sadly I was right. This made the book a little slow for me as I was predicting what would happen. I did enjoy the book and it was a very easy read. I wanted to see how it would end, and whilst there were no plot twists for me, it was a good plot line.
This book felt slow to start with up until about the halfway point where it definitely picked up and was much better. It also felt a bit repetitive and I worked out what was hapoening quite early on.
I loved it from the start till the end. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. Good story, characters, twist at the end over all a brilliant book.
Loved this book. The storyline was face paced and kept me interested. Thank you for the opportunity to read this book I would certainly recommend this read.
I’ve read quite a lot of Adele Parks before and generally enjoy her books.
This is about.2 friends from school who meet again years later. An interesting story that made me wonder what would happen next, i found it a little slow in parts but it had lots of twists that kept me guessing and kept me interested.
Worth a read
I would like to thank both Netgalley and HQ publishers for giving me the opportunity to read ’I invited Her In by Adele Parks’ in exchange for an honest unbiased review.
I have read many books written by Adele Parks and I am a massive fan.
I invited her in is a story about Melanie and Abigail who have been best friends from their days at university. However, over the years, they have lost. touch with each other. That is until Abby emails Mel regarding her ongoing marital problems.
As the book progresses each of the ladies tells their own story within each chapter.
As in any Adele Parks book, there are many twists and turns and an ending you cannot nor will not predict
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. This was the first book by this author that I have read. I had heard about this author before and even seen some of her books but hadn't read any of them until now.
I really enjoyed this book. For me it was a little slow to start but progresses well with lots of twists and turns as the storyline moves forward.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this amazing book
wow where to start...
best mates how well do you know them...we normally think very well if we have known them since school days/ uni days
this is the story of two women who were best friends and then they went their separate ways...until one day one sent the other an email asking to meet up after her marriage was over
what happens next is shocking and unbelieveable and well worth a read...great story can see why it would happen....
