The Party follows the story of Rachel, 40-something wife and mother who wakes up alone, bruised and almost naked in her neighbours spare room after their New Years Eve party with no recollection of how she got there or anything after arriving at the party. Although having no clear memories of what has happened and feeling desperately unwell Rachel is certain that something horrible has happened to her and the she has been sexually assaulted.
Rachel begins trying to piece together the events leading up to her assault including working out why her husband left her at the party and what happened to her missing clothing.
Rachel's relationship with husband Gareth is somewhat strained at this time and she isn't even sure that he believes what has happened to her. Although Rachel & Gareth report the crime to the Police Rachel is frustrated by the lack of action and her own lack of memory and sets out to discover what actually happened that night.
A very tense read and although I worked out the twist before it came it did not ruin my enjoyment of a good solid read with lots of red herrings and even drama to keep a reader hooked.
4 stars and I will definitely read more from this author. Thanks to Netgalley and publishers for the ARC.

An enjoyable book even though I guessed who the suspect was. That didn't spoil it for me and I would definitely recommend this book

TW: subject deals with the aftermath of a possible sexual assault/rape.

Rachel wakes up alone in an unfamiliar bed the morning after a neighbourhood party. She knows that something isn't right but can't remember what happened last night. As she gradually pieces things together, Rachel realises that most of her neighbours have got something to hide, but is one of them hiding the truth of what happened to her?

I thought this was a very good read about a difficult subject and I was absolutely hooked to find out who was involved. Rachel was a fairly sympathetic character and I thought the author handled the issue in a sensitive way, the flashbacks were necessary but weren't gratuitous. The author orchestrated quite a few suspects and some good twists and turns, but I did find it easy to pinpoint who was involved. Overall, it was an engrossing read.

Thanks to NetGalley and publishers, HQ, for the opportunity to review an ARC.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. The Party by Lisa Hall is a psychological thriller about lies, adultery, secrets and revenge. I have not read anything from this author before but shall now make a point of doing so. Great read.

4.5* from me. The third book by Ms Hall. A slightly uncomfortable read due to the subject matter. Loads of twists and turns. Will keep you hooked. One to recommend. My thanks to the publisher & NetGalley for the advance reader copy.

I have read this authors other books and throughly enjoyed them but to be honest this one fell a bit short for me. I didn't particuarly like the main character and guessed the bad guy early on. The ending was also slightly disappointing and felt rushed.

The Party grabbed my attention from the start and I really enjoyed it. Although by the end I had guessed who the rapist was that did not put me off and I was intrigued to keep reading to see how the book ended and if I was right. Another great book by Lisa.

When Rachel wakes up in a strange room, the morning after a neighbour’s New Year’s Eve party, she has no memory of the night before. Why did her husband leave her alone at the party? Why are Rachel’s arms so bruised? Why are her neighbours and friends so vague about what happened? Slowly, Rachel pieces together the devastating events of the night before. Someone knows the truth about what happened to Rachel. Rachel is determined to find them.

This is a very dark, difficult and gloomy read and probably not for everyone. At the beginning this is also a confusing read, yes it matches what Rachel herself thinks and feels but I do think the reader needs a bit more to go on than just what the character has. Once I pushed through the confusion, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and could not put it down. Enjoyable feels like the wrong word but I did find it hard to escape from and was absorbed in the goings on. Essentially this is a whodunit, although not what you traditionally think of with a whodunit. Slowly, Hall reveals little bits that lead the reader and Rachel to the culprit. Now, I worked out very early on who the culprit was and was then reading this with the anticipation of hoping I was right. So although I lost the excitement of wondering who the culprit was, I would not say that any enjoyment was detracted as I had the enjoyment of realising I was right and seeing how everything fitted together.

With a book such as this, there is of course an array of characters to have suspicion cast on. All of them, have something slightly different to say about the party, and have a secret of their own, concerning their movements at the party. This results in the true events of the party being slowly established as we learn something new from each character, the tension builds as each new revelation is exposed. Due to the nature of the book, not all of the characters are that likeable but I did find them all realistic and people I could envisage in that situation. The ones that I did like, I was rooting for. Rachel is a well written character with hidden depths to her which we learn as the book progresses. Yes she is flawed but it works for the book and she very much feels like the right character to carry the book.

‘The Party’ is an intense, chilling read that is hard to put down once you get over the initial confusion. This book will haunt your mind.

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for an advance copy.

When Rachel wakes up bruised in a strange room, the morning after a neighbour’s party, she has no memory of what happened the night before.

Due to the lack of evidence, the police can do nothing so Rachel decides to launch an investigation of her own, gradually questioning everyone at the party. Someone must know what happened to her. Her husband wants to believe her. The reader wants to believe her - but is she a reliable narrator or not?

By intertwining chapters set in the weeks before the party and set straight after the party as Rachel tries to find out what happened. There are lots of twists and turns (and red herrings) before we learn the truth.

I did guess what had happened before the final chapters (which is why its 4 and not 5 stars) but this is still a real page turner!

Thanks to NetGalley for a review copy.

I was totally gripped by this book from the very first page. Rachel wakes up in her neighbour's house after their New Year's Eve party and feels like she's got the hangover from hell and her body is aching all over and she's missing some of her clothes... The worrying thing is she can't remember a thing. Why did her husband Gareth not make sure she was ok?

She contacts the police and they start an inquiry but Rachel feels they aren't going fast enough and starts to investigate herself. The story jumps between before the party and after the party. It's a fast paced and twisty read which I really enjoyed. I jumped between who I suspected several times and near to the end had a good inkling of who the suspect was. Brilliant read.

Well I didn't think Lisa Hall could could write anything as good as Between You and Me but this is definitely going to give it a run for its money.. Covering a very difficult subject such as rape is tough but she managed to do it so well without sensationalisng it. This is going to be such a best seller.

The Party is a great psychological thriller that does cover sensitive issues of rape, assault and stalking behaviour.
Rachel is a forty something wife to Gareth and mother to Robbie. Rachel and Gareth attend a neighbours party over the road and all Rachel can remember when she wakes in her neighbours spare bedroom is arriving. When she wakes she is bruised and knows something awful has happened to her but how and who has done this. You follow Rachel’s journey as she tries to uncover with the help of the police the offender.
I enjoyed this thriller and read it one day as I couldn’t wait to find out who did it. There were plenty of twists and turns to send you in the wrong direction and I did think of this person but was led up the garden path to someone else thanks to Lisa Halls great writing.
I loved Rachel and thought she was a good strong character to lead this story but never liked the husband.
I would like to thank Netgalley and HQ for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review

With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an open and honest review.

I was gripped by The Party from the first page. Rachel was married and mother of one to Robbie. Rachel and her husband Gareth were trying to patch up their marriage after Rachel had an affair with neighbour Owen. Rachel began the affair with Owen after feeling alone in her marriage. Mysteriously Gareth had become cold and distant, spending hours on the phone in his home office.

Rachel and Gareth were invited to their streets New years eve party, Rachel got drunk and danced all night. On New years day Rachel was shocked to wake up in a strangers bed, bruised, naked from the waist down and sore. Rachel soon discovered that she had fallen asleep at her friend and neighbours house. Rachel could not remember what happened at the party but was told Gareth went home after midnight, but Rachel wanted to stay a hit longer.

Over the day Rachel was sure she had been raped. She told Gareth but he thought she was lying about the rape and was having an affair. Gareth urged Rachel to go to the police,, but because Rachel had showered, they could not find any evidence of rape.

Over the next few weeks Rachel suffered flashbacks and panic attacks. She decided to investigate what really happened at the party, and uncovered tales of marital affairs and alcoholism in her quiet village road.

I enjoyed this book and read it in two days. The timeline of the story alternated from three months before the party to the months. afterwards. I felt so sorry for Rachel who was not believed by her husband or neighbours. Later when they discovered she was telling the truth, Rachel discovered her neighbours had their own secrets from they wanted kept hidden..

I recommend this dark, and at times disturbing read. I have to admit I did guess the identity of the rapist, but it was so utterly disturbing I was sure I was wrong.. The final chapter did surprise me, I did not see that coming.

The Party was the first book I have read by Lisa Hall, and I was delighted to find I had her other books on my Kindle. I recommend this book, which will keep you on the edge of your seat.

An upsetting but interesting tale. Unfortunately, I found it difficult to warm to Rachel, and therefore didn't feel hugely invested in caring who had attacked her. For me, personally, I felt the end left too many unanswered questions. I liked it, didn't love it. But I'll definitely try more from this author

The second book I've read by Lisa Hall and loved it again! Starting with a beautiful and eye-catching cover only to continue to brilliant and thrilling story you find inside.

I think many of us could relate to that feeling of waking up after the party not sure where you are or what happened. With hardly any recollection of last night's events, the painful opening of your eyes and throbbing headache tells you, it must have been one great party or maybe ....not so great after all.

It was then Rachel realized something isn't quite right about how she feels, this isn't her normal hangover and bruises covering her body only confirm her suspicion that something worse happened last night.

Fighting with secrets surrounding her, people not willing to help or not believing her story, story she doesn't remember herself. Only small flashbacks coming back to her but are they real or just made up by stories of events others give her? Why nothing others tell her adds up and who is out there trying to hurt her some more?

Once I started this book, I couldn't put it down. It was well written and so engaging, mainly as the story can so easily happen to anyone who can just overdo it with alcohol or has their drink spiked. How real it could be is what is so chilling about this book and it definitely worked for me.

Great novel which kept the suspense from start to finish. Liked the way the narrative skipped between before and after the party to let the reader get more of an insight to the characters and their development

Waking up in a strange bed the morning after a New Years Eve party, Rachel knew something really bad had happened to her. She has no recollection of what happened last night and is now half-naked, bruised and disorientated. Rachel heads home and finds her husband, who had left the party early, wondering where she has been. After realising what has happened to her, her husband persuades her to go to the police, but after becoming frustrated with the lack of progress in the case Rachel takes matters into her own hands. She needs to find out what happened to her that night, who has attacked her and why.

With narratives that follow the weeks leading up to the party as well as the weeks after, the story is built up and you start to get an insight into Rachel’s life before the party and follows her as she speaks to all the guests at the party on her mission to find out what happened. There are plenty of suspects and red herrings that make this a very captivating story that will keep you reading and guessing right up to the end.

The book opens with Rachel waking up on New Years Day, uncertain where she is, and what happened the night before. She quickly realises she has had sex, she does not know who with but she did not consent. The book had me gripped from the outset.
It is really a nightmare scenario. Rachel does not tell anyone immediately, and starts to gather evidence trying to piece together what happened to her on NYE.
The pace remains great throughout the book and I had to keep reading to find out whether Rachel would find out the truth about what had happened to her that night.
Thanks to NetGalley for a Kindle copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
