Having read and loved the brilliant Between You and Me by this author, I was very much looking forward to starting this latest release
The Party is a gripping story, the writing is well done and the characters are fascinating. The plot continually keeps you guessing with its multiple twists and turns, tension and mystery.
If you enjoy fast paced psychological thrillers, I would highly recommend this one. A brilliantly twisted read.
4.5 stars.

Thank you!

Whilst I found the subject matter a bit difficult to read (personal reasons)... I persevered and found the book a good gripping read.
The story keeps you guessing all the way through and when you think you know the perpetrator another twist comes along... whilst I had guessed the perpetrator towards the end it didn't put me off... I wanted to see if I was right.

My first book by this author and found it very well written... I'd like to read more of her books.

Well where do I start with my review? I was absolutely blown away by this book.
Rachel goes to a friends New Years eve party with her husband Gareth but when he wants to leave she decides to stay for another drink, this was her downfall and when she woke up the next morning in a strange bedroom with her clothes strewn about her she realises that he has been raped. She has no recollection of what happened the night before and although she does report it to the police she doesn't really have any evidence, this didn't stop her questioning her neighbours about who was at the party and what they remember. She does go back to narrating 'before the Party and after the Party so as we get to know more about the characters I found myself deciding who the culprit was but I was wrong on several occasions and the ending was a surprise.
I loved this book and it had me holding my breath in parts and gripped right to the end.

I was questioning everyone and everything from the start and just had to know what had happened if anything did happen... it was written in a way that you switched from believing everything and nothing.
I then guessed who the culprit was 3/4 way through but cleverly placed sentence then made me doubt my choice and even go back through the book to reread passages for more clues. I was right but also shocked as didn’t in the end see it coming.
Very clever writing with lots of twists and turns and fully backs up the don’t beleube everything you hear.
Happily recommned to my friends and thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity of reading this book. Lisa Hall has done it again but on a whole new level.

The Party is a standalone psychological thriller featuring Lies, Scandal and Revenge. We follow Rachel who wakes up after a new year’s party in a strange room, feeling sick and knowing that something terrible has happened to her.
This book does deal with rape and sexual abuse and my not be suitable for someone who is sensitive to these topics to read. I would also like to add that I have never experienced rape or sexual abuse and I therefore cannot comment on how it is represented in this book.
I thought that this was such a fantastic book. We get to see chapters which occur from before the party and also after the party which I really enjoyed as both time points gave you a different view to who could have been the ‘bad guy’ in this book. It had me guessing backwards and forwards as to who it was and although I knew who it was by the time it was revealed, I’d definitely changed my min a few times so this is definitely one that keeps you guessing!
I enjoyed all the domestic issues that were wound into the storyline (and no, not all of them are Rachels!) We got to hear all about he neighbours both before and after the party and its clear that everyone had their flaws and issues on the street which meant that most of the didn’t see what happened on the night of party! {or maybe they did they’re just lying to protect themselves. . .?} And Rachel also had a lot to deal with at home with her husband which just worked so well with the main plot as she those issues to deal with along with what she could remember from the party.
I felt so sorry for Rachel; I think there will be a few of us who have woke up from a night out and can’t remember much so it was definitely easy to relate but this obviously goes a lot further as we get to follow Rachel’s panic at knowing something has happened, yet she has no idea who did it or even how it happened. It was so refreshing not to have an unreliable narrator too! Rachel really just seemed like a normal woman; no alcoholism or amnesia or memory issues (apart from the obvious memory loss of the night) and she didn’t try and use the memory loss from the night to cause trouble.
This really is a fantastic book that keeps you hooked – I read this in a day because I couldn’t put it down and I haven’t done that in a really really long time!

Another cracking read from this author!

Imagine waking up after a New Years party half clad and bruised and violated in a strange room with absolutely no recollection of the night before - Your partner is waiting at home, you've strayed before and you have to explain yourself.

Set in a privileged area with lots of vaguely unlikable characters who have their own secrets to keep The Party is a compelling suspenseful read with suspects aplenty, told in short punchy chapters which alternate between the weeks before and the weeks after the party where Rachel has to take matters into her own hands to discover who hurt her. I'd personally describe it as Psychological Suspense rather than Thriller and being correct in my suspicion of the culprit didn't detract from my enjoyment .
A solid 4 star read, highly recommended.

Many thanks to HQ and NetGalley for the opportunity to read The Party- this review is, as always my honest opinion and thoughts about the book.

Thank you to netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for a review.

Rachel wakes up after a New Year’s Eve party, where there was an abundance of alcohol, in a neighbours bed bruised and feeling something bad has happened to her,but with no recollection at all. Her husband Gareth had left the party earlier, but why?

Rachel has to try and figure out what happened and who was at the party, but it seems like everybody has a secret to hide and nobody’s telling the truth.

I did read this book in one sitting as I was intrigued who the culprit was, I didn’t see the ending coming as I was sure I knew who had done it. A very enjoyable psychological suspense that made me think who can you trust after all?

My first Lisa Hall book but definitely not my last.

I have read all of Lisa Halls novels and this is the one I have enjoyed the most. This was well written and engaging and kept me turning the pages. A nice easy read, though the suspense wasn’t quite there for me as I had a feeling who had raped Rachel but couldn’t think why. Will definitely read more from Lisa. Thanks to HQ, Netgalley and the author for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

'The Party' is the third book to be written by Lisa Hall and is another compelling standalone psychological thriller for us crime buffs to get our teeth into! This is my first time reading a title from this author but having enjoyed this one, I plan to purchase the others for my already incredibly overstuffed bookshelves.

Rachel is a married mother-of-one to her son, Robbie. When she wakes up in bed in her neighbours house after going over there to attend a party, she's naturally very concerned about what happened. She becomes even more upset when she realises she cannot remember anything about the previous night apart from arriving at the house, everything after that is curiously blank. She doesn't understand why she would be sleeping at their house as if she had been intoxicated she would've been able to make it home when home is that close!

I think that most people would understand the panic that we would get into if we couldn't remember what we had done the previous evening, and waking up in a strange room unexpectedly is a frightening experience for anyone. The story has you questioning and guessing what happened to Rachel and you feel inclined to read until the end to discover the truth of the matter. It's an intriguing and uncomfortable read and a real page-turner.

Hall is adept at using misdirection to confuse the reader and offer up different explanations as to what occurred. It has you contantly second guessing yourself and when the culprit was finally revealed, I must say, I didn't see it coming! It is a quick and easy read and I felt I could relax whilst enjoying it, which is ultimately the reason I read in the first place.

All in all, this is a dark and suspenseful title that I had fun with. It shows how people you feel you can trust and count as friends, can actually be more dangerous than strangers. A thrilling and rather disturbing novel.

Many thanks to HQ for an ARC. I was not required to post a review and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

A good page turner with a post party rape investigation uncovering a number of dark secrets in a small community.
However, i have given a four star review as there were a couple of niggles. I guessed the ending and have to admit to feeling a bit irritated by the number of times Rachel's heart was thumping and belly flipping and Thor the dog who seemed to disappear at various points in the story!

I enjoyed this book from the beginning until the end. Nice flow to the writing with just the right amount of mystery. I like this author and would definitely recommend this book and look forward to her next one. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book as an arc. It has all the ingredients I love in a psychological thriller, shady characters telling lies and keeping secrets. Rachel wakes up in her neighbour's spare room on New Years Day with the hangover from hell (not an unfamiliar scenario)! She begins to suspect she has been raped at the party the night before, however, but her memory of events is extremely hazy.
With so little evidence to go on, the police are unsurprisingly slow in their investigations, so Rachel decides she has to take matters into her own hands. Rachel manages to uncover secrets her friends and neighbours have been hiding and plenty of skeletons come tumbling out of the closet! I did enjoy the book, but felt it was slightly repetitive in parts and it wasn't difficult to figure out the direction the story was heading. I think because this author's first book Between You and Me had such a huge twist that I was shocked by, I was, perhaps unfairly, hoping for another jaw dropping moment. However it was an entertaining read and I would certainly recommend this book.

A thriller that keeps you on your toes, Lisa Hall has a perfect way of writing her books to keep the reader guessing and making them question what they thought was going to happen.
Rachel wakes up on New Years Day in a room she doesn't know, She can find her husband and knows instantly thats she's been attacked. She goes to the police for help however they can't help her as there is no evidence to prove anything happed. She sets out to find the truth alone.
The plot flips from before and after the party which I enjoyed a lot and secrets and lies are revealed.

I read this book in one sitting. The tension builds throughout. The rape is talked about sympathetically. The short chapters add to the suspense and I was guessing right up to the very end as to who the rapist was. This is an enjoyable read and a good suspense novel. A lot of the people at the party have lies and secret lives that they are trying to hide. Everyone has secrets. This story shows that perfectly.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.

I want to start off my saying I absolutely loved this book !! It is the second book I have read from Lisa Hall and in my opinion this one was better.

The story follows Rachel, who wakes the morning after a party at her neighbours house with absolutely no memory of the night before. However, she does now that something is very seriously wrong and that something has happened to her. We follow Rachel’s story as she comes to terms with what has happened and also her quest to find out who did this to her.

The book is written in the style where some chapters are written after the party and some are written from before so we get to see what happened in the build up to the event.

There are plenty of twists and turns and it seems like most of the characters are hiding their own secrets but will Rachel find out the truth ? And finally get answers to what happened at the party ?

This was a brilliant book that I read in less than 24 hours, if I hadn’t needed to sleep I’m sure I would have read it even quicker. I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves psychological thrillers.

Thank you to HQ and NetGalley for a digital copy of this book.

This book describes every woman's worst nightmare...waking up in a strange place and not really knowing what has happened the last few hours but a gut feeling and several bruises point towards rape but who can you really trust because everybody got something to hide.
I literally inhaled this book...my flight was delayed by an hour when I started the book with a 2 hour wait and an hours flight I was already half way through the book. I love the writing style and the switching of before and after the party gives the reader the full picture of what has been happening in the lead up to the party. I never heard of the author before reading this book, but her other two books are defo going on my summer holiday reading list.

This is a gripping read and it has you desparate to know what really happened to Rachel at the party.
It’s New Years Day and Rachel wakes up in a strange bed and feels bruised.
She remembers going to a New Years Eve party round her neighbours but can’t remember much about the evening.
She goes home and her husband is angry with her as he thinks she’s back with the man she had an affair with recently but he soon calms down when Rachel tells him that she thinks she was attacked.
The Police don’t have much to go on so start to talk to all those at the party.
Rachel grows impatient and starts asking her own questions and soon becomes paranoid about everyone.
This book will have you on the edge of your seat the closer you get to the truth.
Thanks to HQ and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

I really enjoyed this story although it had its flaws, it wasn't difficult to work out who had hurt Rachel and her ways of proving she wasn't afraid were silly and annoying. The last chapter of this book is full on ridiculous, for lack of a better term it read like the wet dream of a rape victim, author needs to do better research on her subjects before writing such trash.

When Rachel wakes up in a neighbour’s spare room after a New Year's Eve party there she doesn’t remember very much from the night before. Why is she is in a strange room and why is she naked from the waist down. It soon becomes clear that she has been raped. But who did it and why can't she remember anything?

This is a twisty psychological thriller with enough red herrings thrown in to keep you guessing through out.

It is a quick read, well written and I recommend it.

I would like to thank Harlequin UK and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read 'The Party’ written by Lisa Hall in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Following a New Year’s Eve party Rachel wakes up in the guest bedroom of her neighbours Liz and Neil with a massive hangover and bruises to her body as if someone has grabbed her forcefully. She can’t understand why husband Gareth left her there and she locates her clothing and gets dressed but is unable to find her pants. On returning home she showers, realises she’s been raped and contacts the police. Rachel’s car is vandalised and a card put through her door with the words “Roses are red, violets are blue, rest assured Rachel I’M WATCHING YOU”. The police don’t have enough evidence to arrest anyone and Rachel is convinced someone at the party knows more than they’re telling so makes a list a of suspects and investigates them herself.
The story switches seamlessly between what occurs four months before the party to the present time five weeks after. ‘The Party’ is a disturbing psychological thriller with a well-written plot, a number of credible suspects, a horrifying ending which I wasn’t expecting and a final astonishing twist on the last page. This thriller has kept me enthralled from page one and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
