The Party is a well written story of an event that could and does happen - an assault takes place at a party which no one witnesses and the victim can remember nothing when she awakes bruised and in pain the following morning. There are many possible men who could have raped Rachel: her husband, her ex lover, a man from the past who is threatening her etc. No-one seems to believe Rachel and the police need evidence before they can proceed to find the culprit. Unfortunately for me I guessed who he was about 2/3 through.
A great read, had me gripped from the start, I did guess about halfway though the outcome, but didn't take away the enjoyment of the read
Having read this author, Lisa's first book and loved it, I could not wait to read her third book and boy was the wait worth it. I've not had the chance to read her second book but it is very much sitting on my kindle just waiting to be devoured.
Well it's safe to say that author Lisa has produced another outstanding brilliant and gripping read. I don't know how she does it but wow. She really does just have a clever way with words that draws you in and then leaves you gasping and wanting more.
The story and the characters engaged with you straight away, it was great getting to know them all and trying to figure out who was lying and who was telling the truth. I was well and truly captivated throughout the story which was very cleverly written.
It truly was a magnificent read from start to finish, which was very fast paced. There were moments when I was literally on the edge of my seat with anticipation as to what would happen next and wondering how it would all end. I absolutely loved the twist at the end.
So last word's, if you haven't read any of Lisa's books yet, then don't delay any further as her books are highly recommended.
Plenty going on in this book, also seems quite plausible if some thing of a scary scenario .We have mostly all been there had a few too many to drink at a party and maybe woken up with a bit of a gap in the memory maybe even woken up having slept over unexpectedly as a result of having a few too many drinks thankfully you can chalk it up to experience and nothing more, but not for the main character in this book, what did happen, and who did what..... No spoilers from me but this will keep you page turning and draw you in,it did me anyway.A good read that keeps you guessing ,thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC.
I need to start by saying that Between You and Me by Lisa Hall is one of my favourite books ever! I was so excited to read The Party because of the author and the synopsis. I'm happy to say that whilst , for me, Lisa Hall could never better Between You and Me , this is a brilliant read .
It starts with married Rachel waking up in a neighbour's spare room alone following a New Years Eve party . She has no recollection of the previous evening but wakes bruised and with a feeling of unease. Something bad happened to Rachel that night at the party and she determines to get to the bottom of it but this is not made easy with the neighbours harbouring secrets and indeed Rachel has secrets of own.
This is an exciting book which has us suspecting each character in turn until finally, a shocking and unexpected revelation.
A highly recommended psychological thriller..
It's now 2am and I have just finished this book, having only started it this morning! Holds your interest right from the start. Fast moving so you just want to keep reading.very good
Rachel attends a new years eve party but the next morning wakes up in her friends spare bedroom, she can't recall how she got there or what happened, how did she get those bruises? Straight away you are drawn into the book and you have to keep reading as it is impossible to put down, I was so excited to read this book,. The twist was brilliant and loved how fast paced it was. I loved every minute of The Party.
Rachel attends a New Years Eve party at her neighbours house. She wakes up in the spare bedroom the next morning with no memory of anything that had happened the previous night, but she has a terrible feeling that something bad has happened to her. She has bruises on her arms and in other places. Why would someone want to hurt her and who would do such a thing.
A fast paced read told in short chapters, in timelines of before and after the party which were easy to follow. There were a few twists to keep you guessing the culprit. I was correct in my suspicions but it didn't spoil the ending for me in anyway.
I can't recommend this one enough if you like a good fast paced psychological thriller.
The party by Lisa Hall.
Rachel wakes up in a strange room not knowing where she is. She is naked from the waste down covered in bruises. Why doesn't she remember anything from the night before? What happened to her?
An absolutely fantastic read very emotional. What a twist. Wasn't expecting that. I loved Rachel. That fact that she didn't stop until she knew. This is a must read and I would highly recommend this book. 5*.
I like the way,as it says at beginning,a small lie can change anything... and everything.
I read this book on a two and half hour train journey... it was an easy read.
I guessed who it was quite early on,but it was still interesting enough to not only see if I was right, but to watch the unfolding relationships come to light.
Told over two timelines, only weeks apart, gradually the bigger picture emerges and it's not good.
Enjoyable way to waste a few hours.
My view on this book was tremendous it was a tricky man who did it to Rachel .
It was a book that you never put it down .
My book was an ARC from Harper Collins Publishers
This is the 3rd novel I have read from this author and it doesn’t disappoint. A dark tale, tension and an unpleasant unease means you need to read this book in one sitting! I really enjoyed it. Thank you for allowing me to review it.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
Rachel wakes up on New Year’s Day, after a party at her neighbour’s house in a state. She hurts and has no recollection of what has happened. Her husband, Gareth, is angry until she admits what has happened. Will she be believed and can she solve the puzzle? Her and Gareth are having difficulties in their marriage and her neighbours all seem to have their own lies to tell!
Lisa always weaves a fabulous tale of intrigue and this is a very dark story. I thought I knew who it was but nope it was not who I expected!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 whopping stars!
This is my third Lisa Hall book, what a great author. This book, similar to the first, really hooks you in and keeps you gripped.
The story has short concise chapters, not too much description or waffling on, told from one viewpoint, the victim Rachel’s, but told from alternating time periods - before and after the event/crime.
It kept me guessing and I whizzed through it in 24 hours.
Recommended.
Rachel wakes up the morning after a new years eve party but she is not in her room... Where is she? Why is her husband not there and most importantly why is she covered in bruises, sore and cannot remember a thing after arriving at the party. Follow the story as Rachel tries to piece together the events of the night and what happened to her.
A five star book that kept me hooked!
‘The Party’ by Lisa Hall published July 26th by HQ
Having read Lisa Hall’s previous 2 books and loved them I was expecting a lot from this 3rd stand alone psychological thriller
The Blurb states ‘It turned into her worst nightmare’...... and for me that combined with the title itself the scene was already set and I was intrigued as to what had happened at ‘the party’ ..... you don’t have to wait long as it opens with Rachel waking up in a neighbours bedroom, she shouldn’t be there, why is she covered in bruises and who did this to her? You are then transported into a ‘before and after’ party narrative, and a set of characters who it could have been inc neighbours, admirers, her husband!, her ex lover and a man who seems obsessed with her....its a ‘whodunit’ and like every good ‘whodunit’ it keeps you guessing, you change your mind and change it again...and again, there are various sub plots and stories going on but it never feels confused or ‘bitty’ and it all wraps up into who DID do it!! and of course its a shock although I did wonder a couple of times as the book progressed if it was them!!!.... The book deals well with dark subjects and handles the description of traumatic events in a clear but feeling way
I enjoyed ‘The Party’ and it led you along in a fast and ever changing way that made it difficult not to want to find the outcome out as soon as possible
Lisa Hall once again shows her ability to write a really, really great book, make sure you get yourself an RSVP to ‘The Party’ on July 26th and see if you can solve the mystery of what really happened at ‘the party’
10/10 5 stars
A novel for modern times. What happens when you go to a party? have a few drinks? Nothing should happen what happens in this book but sadly ti does. The feelings of the victim and what she goes through to try and get to the truth make for uncomfortable reading but it's very relevant for today's readers. The writing, as ever, from Lisa Hall is top notch. The plot sadly didn't work for me as it felt quite linear despite there being plenty flashbacks leading up the party, during, after etc although the twist at the end is nice!
Not a BookTrail book but one which will raise a lot of questions. And that's no bad thing.
The Party is the third book by Lisa Hall and is another superb, twisted standalone psychological thriller.
Rachel, a 40 something married mother of one teenage boy attends a New Years Eve party held at her neighbours house with her husband. She wakes up the morning after alone in a strange bed, half naked and bruised with absolutely no memory of the night before.
And so begins our journey into discovering what happened and more importantly who did this to Rachel. The police are unable to help due to lack of evidence so Rachel decides to investigate herself by talking to everyone who was at the party.
The story alternates timelines between several months before the party and the weeks after the party. The author cleverly lets the reader suspect several characters and with a couple of red-herrings and twists thrown in, The Party is a gripping and highly addictive psychological thriller and proves that Lisa Hall is a very talented author who manages to produce superb page-turners.
