We do love a spicy rom com! And this one is sprinkled with well-timed humour and EXTRA spice. Loved the premise and the laugh out loud bonkers moments. Highly recommend this one for a hilarious holiday read!
Sophie Money-Coutts’ debut novel is such an enjoyable, light read. The protagonist is Polly Spencer. A single, newly-turned-30 year old, who works as a puff piece journalist in a high-society magazine in London. The story really kicks off when she’s sent to interview Jasper, a Marquis whose lethario-ways are now world news due to recent escapades. He manages to charm her, and soon we’re all whisked away on a whirlwind romance that leaves the reader wondering why the book was named “Plus One” rather than “The One”.
Sophia’s writing is utterly hilarious - I laughed so hard at times. The plot is a little nutty, but in a good way. And the sex scenes leave Mills & Boon in the 90’s dust.
Glad I got the ARC of this…
Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!
I really enjoyed this romance. There were so many laugh out loud moments and I was really captivated by the characters story. Would recommend for anyone looking for a light hearted enjoyable romance.
Loved the idea of this but just didn't love the characters unfortunately. I wanted to love Polly but I just found it all a bit flat and this caused the overall story to feel a little tedious and lacklustre.
A great womens fiction read, the writing is is witty and fun. Polly is a great character and you can feel yourself rooting for her throughout the novel.
Funny, witty, you’ll find yourself sniggering and cackling along with Polly.
Its the New Year, and Polly is utterly determined that over the next 365 days she will complete that imaginary to do list we all conjure up. She will remember to shave her legs, drink less wine and generally get her life together.
Then she meets Jasper, the Marquess of Milton, and she has heard all the stories, every single one of them and nope, no way she will be captured by his charm... or will she? Jasper is definitely not her plus one and not “the one” but Polly has that list and she intends to stick to it...
An escapism of a novel that’s light hearted, humours and joyful
A romance with heart. This book was everything that I normally love about a romance book - grey characters, easy flow and and ending that leaves you feeling great. An all rounder that kept me turning the pages.
The Plus One was an enjoyable, easy to read, light hearted rom com. Very much like the Jilly Cooper books I read back in the day as a teenager, which started my reading obsession.
Polly is looking for a plus one for her best friends wedding. will she find him the posh people she has to interview or much closer to home?
I read this ages ago and had completely forgotten to come back and review. Very much in the style of the original Jilly Cooper 'bonk buster' but just a bit too 'fluffy' for me. I was never a Jilly Cooper fan but I think if you were you would love this and there were some definite laugh out loud moments.
This was a frothy story, quite predictable, but reasonably enjoyable. It was an easy read with enjoyable lightweight characters.
Full of fun and one liners. Polly is a loveable but slightly crazy young woman. She is full of wickedness but also full of kindness and understanding.
Easy to read and great to distract the mind
Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.
After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.
I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.
Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.

This is a classic rom com book. Polly is a single girl looking for love. She has a great set of friends and a wonderful mum. She is lovable and you can related to her and her problems. The story was ok but I felt some of the story could have been removed and the ending was rushed..
Not my usual sort of book to read at all however, I did enjoy the refreshing break from crime thrillers. Polly a longtime singleton writer of Posh! magazine finds herself in a whirlwind romance with an aristocratic playboy sort. With friends all suddenly growing up and getting engaged and married around her - she wonders if her time will be soon? A funny, sometimes sad story with realistic characters. A slightly predictable ending but I enjoyed it none the less.
This is a perfect summer read. It was fun, provocative and very easy to read. I found myself smiling most of the way through. Would thoroughly recommend.
This was fun. A real laugh a minute, and the perfect holiday read. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did!
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an advance ARC copy of this book.
I expected a quick and funny read from this book, but I didn’t quite enjoy it like I’d hoped. It tells of Polly, a young woman who works for a gossip magazine, who is unhappy with her job and her life in general. Fed up of waiting around for the guys she likes to text her back, she goes out on a job to interview Jasper, the Marquess of Milton, and gets that tingly feeling. I’m going to be honest – I read this a good six months ago and apart from being very underwhelmed by it, I can barely remember a thing! Which says a lot about the book itself. Very light-hearted, Polly doesn’t really take herself too seriously and neither did I – I just couldn’t, not with the way she behaved, made a slight fool of herself and bared her heart to a guy who probably didn’t deserve it. The romance was alright but the sex scenes were eh. The fat-shaming made me cringe and there was no real development, not from Polly and her non-existent career plans, and minimal from Jasper who needed to give up his bad-boy ways and commit to an actual adult relationship. A very quick but not entirely enjoyable read.
The Plus One is a bittersweet, funny romantic novel. A magazine journalist enters into a relationship with the a playboy she has interviewed whilst helping her best friend plan her wedding. Realistic characters make this a great read.
