I enjoyed this book enough to finish it. Some of the writing was funny and I actually liked the main character. Lots of descriptive sex in it! It was slightly predictable but that didn't really detract from the story.

I found this a feel good rom com. Some Bridgette Jones style giggle moments and of course a happy ending. The sort of thing I’d read on holiday. A nice easy read book.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for allowing me to review this book.

I loved the beginning of The Plus One: the characters felt real to me and their situations and problems very relatable as a single twenty-something living and working in London. Sadly I found the ending beyond predictable but without any reasonable foreshadowing. It was an enjoyable enough read but pretty trite and nothing special.

Rating 3.5/5

I have to admit that when I first started reading this book I really wasn’t too sure on it, but I always give books a certain amount of time before giving up on them and in this case I’m glad I did because it definitely grew on me.

With this type of book you always roughly know what you are getting and yes the story was somewhat predictable but it was entertaining, there were parts that had me giggling away to myself and that’s what I tend to judge from.

There were parts of Polly’s personality that I wasn’t keen on, I mean you can’t like everyone, but sometimes I felt like all she could judge herself on was her ability to find a man and there were some occasions when I felt that her character could have grown but didn’t, however, there were a lot of things that I could relate to as well. She did manage to get herself into some wacky situations and I liked that she didn’t take herself too seriously.

I have to say I did enjoy the relationship between Polly and her mother and having that slightly more emotional part to the story really helped me warm to Polly a bit more. It was a nice balance with the more light-hearted tone that the rest of the book has.

This next bit might have some unintentional spoilers, I’ll try my best but it’s hard so maybe avert your eyes for this paragraph if you definitely don’t want to know anything. I was disappointed that it played out the way it did, the main romance just didn’t have enough investment, I wouldn’t have wanted the outcome to be any different but I think they should have had more of a stake in each other. I think it would have made their ending situation seem more realistic as it was I don’t think that some of the confrontational scenes were accurate for the characters behaviour and kind of fell flat and with this kind of book you do need the drama to be on point.

The Plus One is an easy and entertaining book, it doesn’t stand out in the genre but is definitely good for a beach read.

This book is for woman who’s ever wondered if they will meet the man of their dreams, and he’s already there, sharing life with you. A wonderful, heart warming story of Polly, and the trials and tribulations of finding a boyfriend, being cheated on, or no contact made after a date, only to realise her love was already 8n her life, but she just couldn’t see him. A lovely book, sad, funny, plenty of characters, gossip, and weddings. I loved it, thank you to Net Galley, who gave me the opportunity to read it in return for a review.

Bridget Jones style book. Fun and easy to read, characters that I could really relate to. Would recommend this book

This story follows Polly, a slightly arkward young journalist who is sent to interview Lord Jasper and his somewhat eccentric family. Unexpectedly the two youngsters hit it off and find them self's living life to the full. A nice easy read that I enjoyed very much.

Polly is a thirty-something journalist who works for a magazine called Posh. Her job is to interview the Duke's and Duchesses of the UK. For one assignment she is sent to interview a playboy marquess with a bad reputation with the ladies! Polly certainly didn't expect to fall in love with the marquess Jasper Milton. Friends Lex, Lala, Joe and best friend Bill, all try and make Polly see sense, but love is blind as they say. Has she finally found her "happy ever after" with Jasper?

I loved this book, it was laugh out loud funny and I raced through the pages, enjoying every single word. I must admit though, I did blush when I was reading the very graphic sex scenes, but this was mainly because I was reading it on the train, and was worried that someone was reading it over my shoulder!!!

I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley in return for an honest and open review.

I really wasn't sure about this book when I started it. I felt I was a little old to be reading it but persevered.. It was predictable but enjoyable. It was an easy read and just the thing for a quiet rainy afternoon.

Very funny, compelling and a lovely bubbly read. Laughed out loud in places. Just felt it was all too easy to spot where the story was going and that the ending has been done many times before. Fabulous characters though.

It was obvious from the start of this book that it was yet another genre, and one that would easily fit into the chick-lit category. I’ve seen one review online which describes it as jolly, and that’s fair I think. I enjoy a good, upbeat, happy story and this one was more likely to have me in tears of laughter, so this wasn’t the one that made me cry either, but it was a quick and energetic read.

Polly, the main character works for the society magazine Posh! as a trainee journalist, and there’s a feel of Bridget Jones-ness to this book, so if that’s not your thing, this isn’t likely to be either. It is mine, and the writing evokes vivid pictures which I’m sure I’d replicate if I was in the same situations in real life, and I’m thinking the country visits rather than the adult entertainment, before you ask.

A heart warming (and often laugh out loud) retreat from real life. Polly's romp through fake love to true love is chick lit at its best!

I love romance, and chick-literature. I love fast reads, and enjoyable nonsense. The cover looked so cute, and when I got approved the ARC on The Plus One from Sophia Money-Coutts on Netgalley, I was excited to read it. And then, it all started going downhill…

The Plus One is a book about Polly Spencer. She is thirty, single and works for Posh! Magazine. I didn’t like the Poly Spencer of now, and I thought, this might be a book where the main character is a lady with no self-respect, gets dumped, doesn’t have any ambition in life, and that’s okay. People learn, people change, or if people don’t change, they start to be happy in their own world, without bothering what others think about it.

But Polly - she is all of these things, and on top of that she is not a happy bunny. She keeps complaining about things without trying to act on it, and her day consists of her checking if the phone has a message of her ‘crush’, and asking herself eighty-six times whether to send a message first or not.

I usually love these types of books, but not in cases where the character is just so… I don’t even have the words to explain.

And the book is full of words used too often (Shenanigans is such a lovely word, and Sophia destroyed it for me), lame pick up lines (‘I carry farm animals. I can manage you.’ - WHO SAYS THAT?), dialogues and useless waste of pages with people deciding what to eat:

‘So let’s get some onion bhajis to start. And then I’m going to have a butter chicken. And it comes with popadoms, right?’
‘Yes’ - I said, taking the menu from him.
‘And I’ll get the chicken jalfrezi. And plain rice. Mums, do we have any chutney?’
And it goes on…

At 42%, I decided to store this is my DNF stack. I really wish I had loved it, and I am so sad I didn't.
But life is too short to read the books you don’t like...

A funny, and laugh out loud story of Polly, a singleton, who decides to turn over a new leaf on New Years Eve. Her Mum and her colleagues at "Posh" magazine, are determined to match her up, with a plus-one for a summer wedding.
Unfortunately they pick out Jasper, Marquis of Milton for her, and once she finds out about his track record with girls, she kicks him into touch, despite herself.

Ahhhhhh lovely book! I usually stick to thrillers but this was nice escapism. Quite predictable but fun and tackled some real life issues.

A lovely, light hearted and fun read. It’s super easy to read and really entertaining. I really hope it becomes a series as I’d love to read more about Polly.

A fab light-hearted novel, very funny and easy to read and equally to enjoy. I would recommend this book for a wintery session on the couch or a chilled-out session on the beach. This is one that can be enjoyed anywhere. Very very funny and will turn any frown upside down. Fingers crossed for more Polly soon.

If a book is endorsed by Jilly Cooper, you know I’m so there - and Jilly didn’t disappoint with her recommendation on this one. I rarely pick up ‘chick lit’ books these days, but every time I do, I am reminded of why I love them - and why I devoured so many as a teenager. The heady mixture of escapism with real life emotions, loveable side characters and a guaranteed happy ending? Well, you can’t say fairer than that - and that exact combination had me racing through this book at a rate of knots. I didn’t love the ending, but that didn’t stop me turning the pages as quickly as I could, falling deep into Polly’s world of ridiculous, social-climbing bosses and unspeakably posh colleagues, a sweet but slightly batty mother and best friends you wish you could hang out with yourself. A great read, for sure.
