Pleasant if not scintillating read but very predictable in the outcome. It wiled away a few hours but I wasn't enthralled by the inevitable.
The characters didn't come alive but jogged along and there was only ever going to be one end to the story.
Saying that it was easy enough to read the whole book and have a level of enjoyment
I started this book with trepidation - would it live up to its blurb? I was concerned that it might be a bit vacuous, but needn’t have worried.
It is a good beach read, with punchy one liners and insights into relationships that make you eyes water with recognition!
A fun set of characters - and lots of caricatures- make this an amusing read that won’t go anywhere to dispel the stereotypes! I particularly appreciated the character of Polly’s mum, Susan, who made this a more rounded book.
3* An easy read
This book was a perfect summer read. It was really funny and silly. Polly has just turned 30 when the book begins. There's definitely a Bridget Jones vibe where funny embarrassing situations mingle with everyday life situations. It's also inspired by Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility.
This was my kind of book and I loved it!! This book follows Polly as she battles single life finally finding the perfect ‘one’. But is he perfect? He may have a castle, a title and a lot of money but he’s also a notorious womaniser keeping readers of Posh enthralled with his latest goings on.
After a few twists and turns, a hunt party, a sex party, a cancer diagnosis and a wedding Polly finally finds her happy ever after and with someone who was there all along.
Such a feel good book and an easy read, I couldn’t put it down. Thumbs up from me.
I didn’t realised it was a romantic comedy book. I don’t read that sort of thing because i don’t like those stories, with Prince Charming and all of that. Plus this one heavily formulated, and very predictable.
Personally I found it boring and I got offended by the multiple stereotypes on the Latino culture (Mexican moustache, Mexican drug dealer, Alejandro a Spaniard with a funny moustache..)
I will try my best to only request boooks that follow the genres that i like.
I really enjoyed this book, I couldn't wait to find out what happens next!! A book about a young lady 'Polly' whose relationships she has with her mum, her best friends Bill & Lex, her flat mate Joe, and her work mates!! Her love life should be great, but is it??!! A brilliant read!!
Oh boy this book is red hot!
I really enjoyed this story, it kept me gripped and I found it really fun and exciting. Honestly I was in fits of giggles so many times! Although there are a few times when you will need a tissue to dry your eyes. The story itself will keep you hooked as you just can't wait to find out what is going to happen next for Polly.
I've literally just finished reading this book, my first by this author. A little more racy than I was expecting in times, but a good, solid read. Plenty of scenes to make me smile. My one gripe, without giving too much away is whom the heroine ended up with right at the very end of the book. There were no hints given in the book that she was 'that' attracted to him. In fairness, this meant that you didn't end up with the expected ending where 'good boy, turned bad, turns up to be right boy, but it still felt a little hurried.
I really really enjoyed this book. No, honestly – it was extremely fun and the reviews on goodreads don’t do it justice. I gave it five stars because it made me laugh out laud and it was the perfect summer read. Enjoy it in a terrace with a a diet coke by your side and you’re in for a treat.
Polly was fabulous and I think the situations she faces are the same that a lot of women face when they’re in their late twenties / early thirties. It’s sad but a lot of us usually feel like a failure and we promise ourselves that we are going to do better next year: we’re going to sort everything out, we’re going to be ourselves, move forward, eat healthier, drink more water, crave less chocolate and find our place in the world.
Her thoughts were relatable, the characters were interesting and I think the book and story fulfil its purpose: it’s an easy, romantic comedy that is going to make you laugh and have a good time. It’s true that I could see what the outcome was going to be but it didn’t make the book less special.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and I cannot wait to see what the author’s next work will be.
This is not my usual genre, but after reading other people’s encouraging reviews I requested my copy from netgalley in exchange for a review.
Polly the eternal single works at ‘Posh’ magazine a celebrity gossip magazine as a journalist writing stories about the royal aristocracy and other tongue in cheek articles!
Polly declared that her sex life was drier than a Weetabix! When all you’re friends are getting married you are sadly reminded that you are the only singleton.
When friend Lex announces her wedding plans, Polly has to come up with a plus one for the wedding, not an easy task.
I found this book did make me laugh and although you could see what the outcome was going to be. I thoroughly enjoyed it, took me back to the horror of dating and waiting to see if they would text you, desperate not to appear too keen.
This book has some classic one liners that made me chuckle out loud, it’s a very easy book to read in one day, ideally read on a beach relaxing in the sun with a glass of something fizzy!!
I really tried to get into this story, but alas it wasn’t meant to be. I just didn’t like or warm to Polly and usually I always finish a book when I’m reviewing it but this time I didn’t.
This book is what used to be called a ‘romp’ and it reminds me a bit of an early Jilly Cooper book.
We meet Polly, her friends, her mum, and her colleagues, and we follow her new realationship with a handsome Scot who lives in a castle. The plot is slightly predictable, but apart from a frothy love story, it covers much deeper subjects too. I really liked it, and will definitely look out for Sophia Money-Coutts in future.
I was lucky enough to receive this ARC from Netgalley in return for an honest review.
You know this sort of book is going to be predictable and with that in mind you need a fun plot, laugh out loud moments and likeable characters to compensate - this book didn’t have any of those things.
The cliches and stereotypes got to me, in particular some of the names which were ridiculous and far too OTT.
Not one for me, 1 star.
Thanks to NetGalley for my ARC in exchange for an honest review
A romping, rollicking, fun-filled holiday read. Its hard to be single and 30, as Polly finds out. Her friends are coupling up and she is feeling the pressure. Her best friend Lex is planning a wedding and her other best friend Bill is getting serious with his girlfriend. Luckily she worked for Posh! magazine which caters for the countries blue bloods. She meets Jasper through an interview and maybe, just maybe, Polly can also find love.
Admittedly the story line was predictable, but it was so self-deprecating and full of fun that it made for easy reading. There is a bit of Polly in all of us and I loved the honesty that shone through the wit. Highly recommended as the perfect, entertaining, uncomplicated beach read.
This book had me laughing out loud. A light summer read. Perfect for a leisurely day relaxing in the garden or reading on the beach. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me review this book.
This is a laugh out loud book. Easy to read and perfect for long summer days on the beach, by the pool or just a lazy day at home.
I loved this book! It’s everyhthing I look for in a book! Polly is a bit ditsy, a bit dizzy but emi entry likeable and gets herself into and out of a variety of tricky situations as she navigates her way through her day to day life.
We meet Polly, her flatmate, her boyfriend, and his well to do family, her boss and her ‘friend”. All of whom add humour, warmth and a new dynamic to pollys story. Fun, funny, heartwarming and enjoyable!
Summer's here and out come the light-hearted reads.
This definitely falls into this category, it's a little predictable but that's expected.
Polly's character grows on you and I laughed out loud a few times.
Definitely worth a read!
This was a thoroughly enjoyable book. I didn't want to stop reading it. I got so invested in the story and with the characters. It tells the story of Polly who would love to finally have a plus one for her best friends wedding. It tells of the highs and lows. I found this funny, engaging and I smiled a lot with this book. I really recommend it.
I was so excited to read this book! I'd read good reviews from other bloggers etc so on one hand was looking forward to get stuck in but on the other hand was a tad worried it wouldn't live up to expectations or maybe just wasn't the book for me - however, I really needn't have worried as it was a really great read.
It's lighthearted, it's funny in places and a bit dramatic in others and just made for a nice easy read - the perfect way to spend a sunny day!
