This was not good and I gave up about 1/4 of the way through, to avoid reaching for anything as drastic as the medication to which the narrator is obviously addicted. It's one thing having a protagonist who is confused and muddled, it's another to try to reduce your readers to the same state. Not for me I'm afraid.

This is a very meaty book. I found that it sent me in all sorts of directions. I got comfortable with one plot or think that I had some idea where the book was going then BANG!! its changes direction again.
Lots of twists and turns.
Switch off all phones as this book will get you hooked from the start.
Many thanks to NetGalley and HQ Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read Under my skin.

I was looking forward to this and I wasn't disappointed-An exciting and twisty psychological thriller that will keep you reading and wanting more. Recommended.

A Lisa Unger book is a real treat. I think that she has an incredible skill of being able to really get inside the head of her protagonists and bring their fears and emotions to life in such a skilful way that I feel as if I know her characters in real life.
Told from Poppy's point of view, her grief and habit of popping pills that her friend Layla has given her, the story is given an almost hallucinatory feel. Poppy is a fantastic unreliable narrator. She is as desperate to discover the truth about her husband's murder as I was, and it felt as though we were on the journey together. This worked really well for the most part, creating a wonderfully tense and unsteady feeling, but there were also times when this tripped over into complete confusion and I had to re-read a few pages.
My thanks go to the publishers and Net Galley for the advanced copy in return for an honest review.

Thanks for the opportunity to read this book. The flashbacks could be confusing as times but all in all a good story. Sometimes nearly lost me but made up for it in the ending. Worth a read

This a first for me by this author.
I enjoyed the way it was told through a combination of flashbacks and events in the present.
Poppy's husband was killed, when out jogging a year ago. After his funeral Poppy went missing for four days and when she found, had no memory of those days. Struggling to put her life back together and paralysed with grief, she is convinced that someone is following her and there is more to her husband's death than wrong time wrong place. As she digs deeper, more and more secrets come to light, but what is true and what is just the product of her worn out mind.
It was a bit confusing at times, but I kept going and the ending was good, the catalyst and showdown with the sweet ‘6 months late’ ending, it made for good reading and will certainly make the reader’s heart pump along with the characters.

This was a taut, tense thriller. It gripped me from the start and the twists and turns kept me guessing throughout. The book was like a complicated puzzle and i found myself trying to work out where all the different bits fit. It takes you on a dark, twisted journey with the lead protaganist and nothing appears to be as it seems.

Thank you for providing me with a copy of this book. Didn't really hook me in, I'm afraid, and at parts nearly gave up with the story. The ending was decent however.

Under my Skin by Lisa Unger is a psychological thriller about Poppy who's husband Jack is murdered one morning while he is out running.
Poppy is determined to find out who the killer is and why this has happened. Unfortunately she is having nightmares and is taking a lot of pills. She thinks someone is stalking her and she is having blackouts and losing time.
I found this story really confusing and this affected my enjoyment of the book.
I would like to thank NetGalley and HQ for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is not the first,or indeed third book I've read, where the main character is consuming too much pills/booze and can't figure out what's real... meaning,as the reader you don't know either.
It can get a bit tiring after a while.
There is nothing wrong with this book,it was nicely paced, with a few twists along the way.
Unfortunately, for me,there was nothing that stood out about it either... so in six months I'll be confusing it with one of those other books where the main character is drinking and taking too many pills.

I've read and enjoyed quite a few of Lisa Ungers books. Unfortunately, after a great start this book just didn't do it for me and I found the middle really boring. I can see what the author was trying to achieve / depict through the main characters shocked and drug addled confusion but I just ended up bored I'm afraid.

This was a very confusing book. I found it nearly impossible to tell what was memories, dreams, flashbacks and it made following the plot impossible. It was so messy and i had to force myself to keep on reading in the hope that it would start to make sense. Not enjoyable at all.

I really enjoyed this book about half way through I thought I had figured it all out and was totally blown away by the ending as I was so wrong. This writer has a great way of writing true to life characters and I felt like I was there with them on this journey for the truth.

It's hard to review this novel. On the one hand, I absolutely could not put it down and read it in less than 24hours. I had to know what happened and didn't guess any of the twists - which is very rare for me. I initially enjoyed being disoriented and unsettled - not knowing if a scene was real or if Poppy was in a hypnogogic state (kind of wakeful dreaming).
To summarise the plot, Poppy's husband was killed, randomly when out jogging a year ago. Straight after his funeral Poppy went missing for four days and when she was found, had no memory of those days. Struggling to put her life back together and paralysed with grief, Poppy is convinced that someone is following her and there is more to her husband's death than wrong time wrong place. As she digs deeper, more and more secrets come to light, but what is true and what is just the product of her worn out mind.
The writing is spooky and lyrical, making me jump at times when Poppy hallucinates but after awhile I got a bit fed up of not knowing if a scene was a dream or real - it happens a few too many times. I also found various scenes became too unbelievable, including the resolution at the end, and that the very end was predictable and also stuck to standard tropes too much (SPOILER ALERT) by needing to be rescued by a man and have a baby with him to feel happy again. It was too predictable and I didn't feel Noah was trustworthy in any way (despite sounding pretty hot)
Having said all that, I think this book would make a fantastic film - the dream states and jumps in time would transfer very well to screen - perhaps better than in a book?
So despite my criticisms - I did enjoy this book and would definitely recommend as a good holiday book.
