If you're looking for an intriguing, psychological thriller that’s also a real page-turner, making your heart race from the onset, then look no further. This is a gripping read, with enough dizzying twists and turns to keep you guessing. Curve balls are continually being thrown into the mix to increase the tension and suspense.
Kirsty and Adrian are making a fresh start after facing serious domestic problems. They're renovating and opening a guest house in Wales, the home of her youth. Their daughters take a while to settle in. The new home is creepy, the locals hostile and resistant and the younger one has sleeping problems.
Kisty’s mother is hiding something. So are the rest of the family, including Selena, her estranged cousin. Kirsty agrees to take her in with great reluctance, because Selena is hurting and needs shelter for herself and her sick daughter Ruby.
Adrian gets lost in his new occupation as a writer, while they end up giving house room to troubled family members and unwanted individuals from the past. Their home becomes a repository for puzzling events and dark secrets, which get revealed at breakneck speed towards the end.
When a body is discovered at the bottom of the stairs, eventually found to be dead, questions abound. How did it happen? Who was responsible? Was it deliberate or an accident? Answers appear to tie in to past and present events.
Rarely have I seen the truism 'everybody lies' as cleverly executed as it is here. It gets hard to know who to trust and what the truth is behind the lies. Though as an ex-nurse I did guess the medical twists early on.
There are moral dilemmas too, because hiding truth can often be a saving grace to avoid hurting those we love. This entrancing book will engross, entertain and make you think. Highly recommended.
A deliciously dark thriller, with mystery after mystery unravelling right to the end. This book keeps you guessing all the way through and cleverly raises a few thorny issues which give pause for thought. A brilliant read
I had planned to take my time reading this book and make it last but I got so into the story that four hours later I realised I had nearly finished! I had never read a book by Claire Douglas before but I will definitely be on the lookout for more in the future!
A fabulous and yet creepy at times story!
I originally sat down for a few minutes and decided to start reading this book. I have read others by Claire Douglas and should have known that I would be hooked straight away. From the beginning I was completely drawn into the world of Kirsty and Adrian and what bought them to the Brecon Beacons to open a guest house in a dilapidated old rectory. At first we do not know why they purchased the house but as the book progresses we learn more of the background and reasons behind the move from London to the sleepy village of Hywelphilly. However, mysterious things start to happen and we have to wonder what the family have let themselves in for. It appears that Kirsty and her Mum are hiding a lot of secrets from the past and it is not until the latter stages of the book that we find out exactly how much has remained hidden.
I highly recommend this book to those who love a good psychological mystery.
Many thanks to Michael Joseph, Penguin UK, Claire Douglas and Net Galley for the chance to read a copy of this book in exchange for a fair review.
Do Not Disturb is a psychological thriller with some horror themes weaved through. It was creepy at times, and suggested there was something supernatural going on. Ultimately it's a great whodunit, but also a whydunit. Kirsty had cause to suspect several people of the murder, and Douglas described the intricacies of families incredibly well. A good read.
Kirsty and her Husband, Adrian relocate to Wales to run a bed and breakfast in Wales. This was to be a new start for them and their 2 daughters after Adrian had a breakdown.
The first guest is Selena, who is Kirsty's cousin and parted on bad terms when they were 18 years old. Other guests arrive and the atmosphere then becomes creepy. The guests and family each have secrets they're keeping from each other. A psychological novel that will have you gripped.

Kirsty has had enough of London and after ‘everything’ that has happened with her husband ( you find out what the ‘everything’ is later in the book ) moves with her husband and family to Wales to open a B and B, her Mother, overbearing and great in her role, moves with them and they excitedly ‘set up shop’........then ‘Selena’ a cousin not seen since Kirsty was 18 turns up, with her daughter and a suitcase....full to the brim with secrets, lies, nastiness and errr clothes😃
And the story unolds, the first guests arrive.....other family arrive....ex’s arrive but not everyone is leaving and those that do survive will never be the same again after the secrets and lies one by one become apparent and affect them all
A proper good psychological thriller mystery that is cram full of interesting characters and situations...its a busy book, no faffing around with empty chapters as something is happening all the time and by the end of it there at least 5 mysteries to be solved....they are and not as I had expected
A great find of a book, exciting writing style and love the setting and the visual you got of the B and B and the guests
10/10 5 stars
What if your dream home becomes your worst nightmare!!!
I Loved this story it is my first by this author and will not be my last. the story had me on the edge of my seat and kept me guessing to what was going happen. The story will have you turning the pages to find out how it will end.
It is compelling and gripping, Thriller.
I loved the writing style and I really enjoyed this story.
Thank you to NetGalley for letting me read in exchange for my honest review.
I loved this book. A real page-turner which leaves you guessing with ever page. To begin with we are introduced to Kirsty and her family, who are renovating a property to open it as a guesthouse in a Welsh village. Gradually we discover more about Kirsty's family, and the secrets and lies, including murder, which surround all of them. The house and village, which at first seem idyllic gradually become more claustrophobic and sinister, and eventually I was racing towards the end just to find out what was the truth, and what would remain forever a secret.
I would thoroughly recommend this as a great holiday read, but only if you want to ignore everyone and everything while you finish it.
I was sent an early copy in return for my independent honest review.
Well what can I say, another 5* from Claire Douglas. The writing style and cast of characters soon draws you in and keeps you riveted!
A couple with two children, a demanding over critical mother and an old, possibly haunted guest house sets the scene which soon has you on the edge of your seat.
There are several sub plots to throw you a few red herrings to keep you guessing, with additional characters who although are generally unlikable make this story interesting. It covers topics of mental illness and medical issues well, although I worked out the medical twist, I did not see the ending coming!
So overall, a fast paced thriller with clever plot lines, suspense within an eerily chilling old house and another great read from this author.
This book was a compelling read that had me hooked from the beginning. It was full of twists that kept you guessing until the end.
Thankyou to NetGalley, Penguin UK- Michael Joseph and Claire Douglas for the opportunity to read an advanced readers copy of Do Not Disturb.
Right from the first chapter, the reader is drawn into an intriguing story that captures your attention. Hints are dropped regarding the back stories of the central characters. Strange things are occurring in the home/guesthouse. Ms Douglas has weaved a novel that is spine-tingling spooky with so many twists and turns. This is an edge of your seat thriller that will not let go until you reach the climatic conclusion.
Would highly recommend Do Not Disturb,
This is the first novel I have read by Claire Douglas but have made a note to seek out the others soon.
Kirsty, Adrian and their two daughters, Evie and Amelia, move from London to Wales to open a guesthouse believing they will be fulfilling their dream. The move doesn’t bode well from the beginning as Kirsty’s mother has had to assist financially and will be living with them as well as helping with the running of the bed and breakfast.
Creepy thing start to happen right from the start and gradually the past is revealed including the real reasons for the move. Kirsty’s mother invites Selena, Kirsty’s estranged cousin and Kirsty’s brother, Nathan and his wife Julia as soon as the guesthouse opens. As well s the other guests Kirsty finds the dream is hard work and she is soon fighting tiredness and a daughter who doesn’t want to be there as well as another who seems to be scared all the time.
When the accident/murder happens it could be anybody in the building who was responsible. There are several twists and turns with an excellent ending which I did not expect at all.
Thanks to NetGalley, Penguin UK, Mcihael Joseph and Claire Douglas for the ARC in return for my honest review.
Great read. Highly recommended.
Great book - really enjoyed reading it and getting to know the characters and their interactions and most of all secrets.
I love Claire Douglas's books. This one was gripping, it's a mix of mystery, murder and suspense, set in a creepy old guesthouse with guests who have secrets and also, may or may not be a killer. As well as the locals that don't take kindly to the newcomers Kirsty and her husband Adrian, it did feel at times as if I was reading a modern day Agatha Christie. I didn't guess the ending but that makes it even better!
Look forward to the author's next one.
Kirsty, her husband and their two daughters need a fresh start away from London. They move to Wales and buy a very old, run down house, intending to run it as a guesthouse along with Kirsty’s Mum. Some of the first guests are Kirsty’s cousin Selena and her poorly daughter Ruby. Kirsty hasn’t spoken to Selena for many years, since they fell out. We slowly learn why Selena has come to visit and what secrets she is hiding. This book has all of the elements of a classic ‘who done it’; it’s creepy in places and has a tragedy thrown in too. I didn’t find this Claire Douglas book as gripping as some of her others and initially found it a little difficult to keep reading. The story did however build up as I read more, to a really enjoyable and satisfying ending.
After a traumatic event, Kristy and her family start over in Wales where they open a B and B, but their first guest threatens to destroy the fragile peace they have built. This is a tense and suspenseful mystery, but doesn’t quite measure up to the author’s previous book
There's a great selection of characters in this book who pull you into this thriller. A gripping twisty read. Brilliant for fans of a psychological thriller. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to review this book.
This book is about a family that move from London to Wales to open a guesthouse. Kirsty is hoping to build a successful business and family home where they can all be happy. But it doesn't go quite to plan. (Won't give too much away you'll just have to read it to find out what happens.)
Well what can I say, is that I really enjoyed reading this book. I found it very gripping and didn't want to put it down. It is well written and easy to read. It all seemed to flow nicely with a thrilling storyline developing from early on in the book.
I liked the characters in the book they have been developed well and all have different ways of coping with what happens as the book goes on. If I was to choose my favourite characters I would choose Kirsty and her two daughters.
This was the first time I have read a book by Claire Douglas but it definitely will not be the last.
I highly recommend this book, especially if you are looking for a creepy, scary at time read.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Penguin for my Advance Digital Review Copy in return for an unbiased review.
A compelling read in that I couldn't put it down however I felt it wasn't as good as her previous books.
