Well written and interesting storyline. There are many characters in this book and they all have their own story. Looking forward to reading more from Claire Douglas.

Very clever read, this one was.

After reading the blurb, I was very excited to get right into the story and I was very pleasantly surprised! This book is well written and keeps your attention glued to the pages!

Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

Kirsty and Adrian have relocated to Wales to run a guest house with the help of her mum. Trying to balance Adrian’s recovery from depression, a slightly emotionally detached mother and two daughters Kirsty’s plate is quite full. The arrival of Selena, Kirsty’s cousin, with whom she has been estranged from for 17 years throws a massive spanner in the works.

This was a dark and twisted read and I admit I didn’t enjoy the first half but then I was sucked in and devoured it!

Brilliantly claustrophobic and deliciously creepy, I absolutely loved Do Not Disturb. It’s one of those books that’s just great storytelling. Another absolutely gripping book by Claire Douglas in a classic Agatha Christy-style whodunit.

The story follows Kirsty, who moves to the Brecon Beacons with her husband and children to open a guesthouse. But nothing turns out as planned. When her cousin Selena arrives with her daughter after being estranged from Kirsty for so many years, things go from bad to worse. As everyone around her becomes a suspect in a murder, Kirsty becomes less certain their move from London was a good idea.

Douglas does a wonderful job painting the setting of the Brecon Beacons as breathtakingly beautiful, while simultaneously making it feel chilling and claustrophobic. The characters are well drawn and interesting and I often didn’t know who I could trust, even the children. The plot is fresh and intriguing with twists that kept me genuinely surprised.

Thank you to Netgalley for letting me read Do Not Disturb by Claire Douglas in exchange for my honest review.

I enjoyed this, there was an interesting cast of characters and the setting worked n a creepy way with a possibly haunted house.I really wasn't sure who was telling the truth and who was not, and I was even suspicious of the narrator to a certain extent.it all seemed very believable to me and kept my interest, and kept me guessing until the last page.I would look out for more books by this author and really enjoyed this one. Thanks to the publishers and netgalley for an ARC.

Kirsty, husband Adrian, their young daughters and Kirsty’s mother move to the Brecon Beacons to fulfil the dream of opening a guest house. The place needs a lot of work, and not all the locals are friendly, but they’re finally ready to open the doors and welcome the first guests.

Of course, all goes far from according to plan.... the first guest arriving with an unexpected dog in tow and immediately announcing that the house has a “bad energy” is only the start. Kirsty’s long-estranged cousin Selena has also come to stay with her disabled daughter, fleeing her marriage and - as ever - bringing trouble with her. Strange things are happening - threatening messages which seem designed to taunt Adrian, who is recovering from depression, in particular.

The guest house setting was inspired - providing a great set-up for a domestic thriller (possible dangers not only lurking outside, but welcomed in), and Claire Douglas is excellent at building a sinister atmosphere.

Narrator Kirsty was a believable protagonist, generally expressing the same doubts and suspicions as the reader - can I trust this person? Could they be lying? I always find this refreshing as so many characters in psychological thrillers seem to walk around with their heads in the sand. That said she did miss one significant deception which was probably more obvious to the reader. I found Kirsty a relatable character, particularly with regard to coping with serious mental health issues in a partner.

The ending was unexpected and I’m still not quite sure what to make of it.

All in all a great read.

Only a 2* review for Do Not Disturb by Claire Douglas..

"After what happened in London, Kirsty needs a fresh start with her family, and running a guesthouse in the Welsh mountains sounds idyllic.
But then their first guest arrives, Selena is the last person Kirsty wants to see.
It's seventeen years since she tore everything apart.
Why has she chosen now to walk back into Kirsty's life?
Is Selena running from something too?
Or is there an even darker reason for her visit?
Because Kirsty knows that once you invite trouble into your home, it can be murder getting rid of it"

Having read Last Seen Alive, I had high expectations for this new book by Claire Douglas. Unfortunately i was disappointed because it did not come across as the psychological thriller it was portrayed as, but it was more like a cross between Murder She Wrote and a YA ghost story. It dealt too much with the minutiae of the day to day running of the guest house and the few scary snippets that were added (like the china doll Lucinda) did not have the tension, drama and suspense I was expecting from them, but more left me wanting to finish the book as soon as possible to see if the ending would be worth it, however I had worked it out by half way through so that was a bit of a let down too.

On a positive note I felt the subject matter of Ruby's illness was very well dealt with and that part of the story I found fascinating, and enjoyed her interactions with Amelia and Evie, as was the grief and repercussions for the whole family many years later of the death of baby Natasha.

I wanted to sit and read this in one go! We hear about the the sadness in the family following the death of Phoebe, and see the repercusions for all the family members. It's not until late on in the book thay we actually find out how she died, and by then we have guessed. A story that tells how tragedy affects the whole family in different ways and shows how hard it is for people to stay connected when they are dealing with their own grief. A super read.

Do Not Disturb is a wonderful and creepy read but not one for just before going to bed. Kirsty, her husband Adam and their two daughters, and her overbearing mother want a new start and leave London to open a guesthouse in a small Welsh village. From the first night when an old friend of Kirsty's shows up unexpectedly things go wrong and she wonders whether they have made the right decision after all.

The characters are well drawn and the atmosphere is terrific. A definite page turner for fans of psychological thrillers. I have read both of Claire Douglas' previous books and she never disappoints her readers. Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin for the opportunity to read and review Do Not Disturb.

Another exceptionally well written psychological thriller from the very talented Ms Douglas. The strong storyline once again displays a real flair for depth and realism and also, this time, very tangible shades of a classic Agatha Christy who done it. All in all a wonderfully atmospheric and totally immersive read.

This was a great read for me , full of twists . Some expected some not so much . Kirsty and her husband buy a run down guest house in the Brecon Beacons to fix up as a business along with Kirsty's mother as a business partner things seem good as their first paying guests arrive .. When her cousin Selena comes to stay with her sickly daughter a massive chain of events is set in motion . Kirsty and Selena have been estranged for many years and Selena brings unwelcome drama to Kirsty's life . It seems everyone in this book had secrets , even the kids , I really enjoyed this and raced through it . Thank you for the opportunity to read this

I didn't feel this stood out on any level.
This is a problem when I read so many of this type of book.
I find by the end I'm just thinking what wasn't great about it.
I wasn't convinced by why the two main characters fell out,or how easily they made up 17 years later.
I wasnt convinced at all by the husband character, who just seemed to be typing or running.
However,I read the book quite quickly, didn't skip any pages,so it was fairly engaging.

Kirsty and her family are after a new start. They take over a run down guest house in Wales and after doing it up open to the public, but some of the guests turn out not to be so welcome... This is a story full of action and mystery that will keep you turning the pages. I would recommend this read.

Well, I'm gong to compare this one with Stephen King meets Maeve Binchy! Yes, that's right, that's what I said. The style of this book lulls you into a false sense of security. The setting is lovely, yet claustrophobic but the descriptions of the Beacons, breathtaking.
A remote guesthouse in the middle of nowhere? A new start for a troubled family? A cold, uncaring mother-in-law? What could possibly go wrong? Read on and find out!
I loved the characterisation in this book. I immediately liked Kirsty and her girls, Amelia and Evie. Adrian, the husband, I wasn't so sure about and I'm going to have to let you make your own mind up about him so I don't drop any spoilers!
I literally read this in one sitting. I couldn't put it down. You know that feeling when your kindle flips to the last half page and you see the acknowledgment bit and your heart sinks? Well, mine didn't because my mouth was gaping open - I didn't see that twist coming and I've read 200 psychological thrillers in the last year!
Buy this book now. Immerse yourself in this lovely world. Curl your legs up underneath you and smile dreamily as you think to yourself what a lovely cute book this is, and then before you know it, your jaw drops and you read quickly, heart racing, mind buzzing, a voice in your head shouting, "no, no, no!"
I've read all of Claire's books and they are all so different. That's what makes her books so compelling and interesting. This one is very different to all of her others but my God, it's good.
And the Maeve Binchy bit? That's because this book is heartbreaking in places. It tugs at your heart strings, Claire makes you empathetic towards the characters and their plight. And don't get me started on little Ruby (cue reader sobbing into her hanky and filling up her wine glass). Not only that, the cosy setting really draws you in, the images of the guesthouse and the nosy villagers believable and real. In fact, I'd book tomorrow if I could, but I hear they've got a ghost!
Totally recommend it. It's clever, compelling, unusual and gripping. I promise you, you won't be disappointed!
Thanks to NetGalley for my copy and to the author and the publisher for advancing it to me.
