Love it! Finally, a book 'basic' enough for me to pick up countertop gardening (other than throwing seeds in dirt, and praying for them to grow). It had great ideas, simple science (photosynthesis 101 :D) that didn't intimidate me at all. I think it'll still take practice for me to get anything growing, but this book has reinspired me to do so.

Amazing! Even tomatoes can be harvested indoors with easy steps. This reference books covers a variety of techniques including hydroponics. The tutorial are easy to follow and very well illustrated.
This is a fantastic book for anyone who wants some plants in their house. It features lots of ideas for plants and planters, ways of growing and even some recipes. A wonderful little book.
Really interesting and informative. This details a wide variety of ways to indoor garden based on skill level and budget. I really liked the wine bottle potting idea, and liked even more that there was a kid friendly, DIY pop bottle alternative listed. From Ikea settings, and suction cup containers, if you have a kitchen with a window, you're pretty much set to explore this book. There is a small bit about the actual science in easy to understand terms, and while fish/plant set ups are explored, as a fish owner, I'm glad there was importance placed on the needs of the fish as well as the plant. A really fun book to pick up.
Love, love love this book! Countertop Gardens by Shelley Levis is exactly what I was looking for! I moved to a new climate some years ago and have had difficulty gardening here. I finally decided to try my hand at indoor container gardening. So far I have had success with herbs and lettuce. I am now ready to branch out into other plants such as determinate tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, cress, peppers, potatoes, ginger and Tumbling Tom Strawberries. The countertop garden methods section is so helpful! I learned everything I needed to know about growing in peat moss, perlite, vermiculite, coconut coir and hydrocorn. The information on light and fertilizer/NPK was great. If you plan on creating a countertop garden, this is THE book for you. I have a digital copy of this book, but plan on buying the paperback as well because the photos are so beautiful. I was given many great ideas to grow in stunning arrangements!
I have been growing plants all my life. I lived on a farm as a child and our veggies came from a garden. I was thrilled to be given copy of this book through NetGalley. I honestly have to say that this book makes countertop gardening look a bit harder then it really is. It is a great book for tips and tricks don't get me wrong. I love how the author shows several ways of making pots, and waterers out of things you think are garbage. I love the space saving tips as well. There is a ton of useful information in this book, but I do feel that it is very intimidating to the beginner.
I received this book from the Author or Publisher via Netgalley.com to read and review.
This is a great book for those new to gardening. I am a beginner and this book has been very helpful to me and I can’t wait to grow my garden.
My review has been posted to Goodreads.
Review has also been tweeted as usual.
Thank you! :c)
It was interesting but in the end I realized that for me was just to difficult so I saved the money :)
Questo é stato un libro interessante che mi ha dimostrato come, per una persona come me, crearsi un orto dentro casa é comunque troppo complesso, quindi ho risparmiato i soldi ;)
THANKS NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!
Countertop Gardens by Shelley Levis is a book full of wonderful idea's to help you grow your favourite herbs, fruits, veggies all year round within the comfort of your own home wherever you live in a flat, an apartment, a house etc.
Throughout this brilliant book Shelley will show you how to make simple space saving containers from items you have in your cupboards you may of forgotten you got! to plastic water bottles you can use to grow your herbs etc in.
I loved the way this book took you through stages of growing your produce from the beginning, how to set up it all up, what soil to use or if any, what clay balls are and how to use them, what plant food to use, then she takes you right to the end when your produce is ready to be picked and eaten. There are a few mouth watering recipes throughout this well illustrated book.
Countertop Gardens will show you the benefits of growing your own produce within your own home especially on your kitchen worktop or on your windowsill. I found this book very useful and learnt a lot from how to grow herbs especially as I purchased these from my local supermarket weekly, to how to set up a easy Mason jar to grow my Mung beans as I purchased these weekly as well. So at the mo I have saved a small fortune on just these few things at the mo.
This book has became very useful and given me good idea's of saving money and making my house greener by growing my own produce. It maybe small but full of wonderful idea's and packed of useful information.
Big Thank you to Netgalley, Quarto Publishing Group - Cool Springs Press and Shelley Levis for letting me read and review Countertop Gardens.
