A wonderful collection of self-care advice, tips and recipes for pre-teen girls, teenagers and women of all ages. Simple directions make this guide helpful and the projects doable, from sleep masks to foot cream! A must have book for teens everywhere, 5 stars!
Thank you Storey Publishing and Netgalley for an ARC of this great book.
This is a fabulous Christmas gift for the tween / teen girl in your life. It ticks all the boxes with easy recipes , great layout and photographs as well as easy to follow how to’s for beauty regimes at home.
As a teenager I loved making home made masks etc amd look forward to trying some of these recipes with the tween in my life.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
It took me several tries to get through this book, I have had it in my ADE for a few months now, each time I start I just get bored and leave the book for another time. I still have no clue why, as the book is quite fun and entertaining. But today (October 3rd) I just kept reading, I pushed myself to finish this, and I can tell you, I am happy I did, as in the end I quite liked the book!
This book is perfect for us girls who love to pamper ourselves, during normal days or during the days we feel crappy (or crampy). I definitely want to try out some recipes myself.
What does this book contain? Recipes, tips, yoga exercises, all separated in sections. We start off with Wake, Play, Sleep then go to Everyday Wellness dash off to About Face which leads us to Hair Care and then we go for Body-Care Concoctions and lastly Healthy Hands and Feet! Yep, you will have a whole relaxed body after reading this, plus you will probably smell delicious given all the recipes which call for natural and lovely smelling products.
I do have to say there were A LOT of recipes. I get that the book is about them, but sometimes it felt a bit too much. I wouldn't have minded more activities to do. There are quite a few, but I would have liked to see more.
I liked the way the book was made, lots of bright colours, fun photographs, cute illustrations, a playful font, it makes you want to read the book.
I didn't really like how there was a lot of boohoo against the normal make-up/cleaning products. I am sure these are bad, I am sure these aren't ones you should use. But come on. I don't even know if there was any good nailpolish when I was a teen, but either way I wouldn't be able to afford it with my 20-ish euro pocket money each month. Because browsing around, it seems most average on around 9 euro per bottle. :| Then again, even as an adult, 9 euro is quite a bit too much for a small bottle of pretty nail polish.
I do wonder how many teens can actually afford buying all the ingredients. I just looked online for some ingredients, and boy, it isn't cheap. Some things are, but others... oh boy.
I was already wondering where to get these ingredients, should I want to try out some recipes, but thankfully at the end of the book we get a Get To Know Your Ingredients which details what the ingredients are and where to get them. Of course, these are mostly applying to the US, so for some things I may have to do a bit more effort. :P
But all in all, a decent book with lots of pretty fonts, photographs, illustrations.
A great book for young girls, from at home remedies for sleepless night, and colds to foot scrubs and face masks. A great way to unwind and something I would have loved as a young tweenager.
A great introduction for young ladies on homemade beauty care. I'm planning a winter program on personal care for young girls. I plan to use a few recipes.
This book is something a teenager would really gravitate to. My daughter who is eight-years-old would like to get this and would view this as a fun “grown-up girl” book. It is a very empowering book that encourages taking care of one’s needs. She gives a fun example of how to create morning and evening routines. I love their morning routine: Set an alarm to give you ample time to get ready, Exercise, Eat a healthy breakfast and spend time journaling. This is a very positive book that I would love my daughter to have!
The illustrations are quite fitting for teens/preteens, and my eight-year-old. This book is chalk full of so many practical and simple DIY that will not break the bank. I think this would make an excellent gift. I can think of several of my friends whose daughters would find this book interesting and enticing.
This book gives kids a variety of ways to invest not only into their health but also to their awareness of themselves, their body, and who they are, and how to take care of their bodies. This book accomplishes something that I think all kids should be aware of is –How to calm down through having a Mindful Moment. After which they follow with a craft that pertains to calming down and unwinding. I love it. I love it. Something I want to own in a physical book rather than a kindle copy.
I received a review copy of this book. I have my honest opinions about this book written down, and have not been forced to write a favorable opinion.
I wanted this book as my Granddaughter will be turning 9 soon, and has many sleepovers with her friends. She is also into facials and mani-pedis. I like that this book has all natural items to use. Full details and illustrations are added. This book also goes into the importance of eating well, yoga, and proper sleep. This book includes recipes and diy projects. I especially like the Banana Sleep Tea, Lavender Sleep Mask, Squishy Stress Ball, and the Green Goddess Hydrating Mask. It has everything from Hair Care, Face Care and more. I am sure my Granddaughter and I will have lots of fun with these on her next sleepover at Grandmas!
I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Girls' Home Spa Lab
By Maya Pagan
What a fabulous book for teen girls to find fun ways to make being healthy fun. I think the name of the book does not do justice to all that it offers. I liked all the recipes but also the advice for young (and old) to find a healthy and balanced routine.
“Girls' Home Spa Lab” by Maya Pagan is such a pretty book filled to the brim with all-natural recipes, activities, and tips for self-care and relaxation, especially designed for tweens. Its 50 head-to-toe recipes for homemade facial steams, hair masks, foot soaks, tub teas, and body balms can be easily made from ingredients found in the kitchen cupboard, like honey, oats, and coconut oil. Girls also learn to self-soothe through easy yoga poses, homemade sleep tea, and natural remedies for a headache, stuffy nose, or sore throat. The author’s lively tone boosts readers’ confidence and creativity as they learn to make and enjoy luxurious spa treatments. 5/5

The Girl's Home Spa Lab is a helpful book that introduces girls to healthy habits, be it yoga, mindfulness or making your own products for face, hands, hair, body or feet.
The book is divided into six sections: Wake, play, sleep, Everyday wellness, About face, Hair Care, Body-care concoctions and Healthy hands & feet.
I loved this book and think plenty of tweens would also find it really helpful. It explains tips at the right level for these girls though I'm not sure that making a candle is a great idea. Once this is published I would certainly buy one for my own daughter.
I received this book from netgalley in return for a honest review.
This book will make girls feel like girls. There are all types of recipes to make spa treatments at home. It in includes projects like sleep masks, shower scrubs, hand creams etc. It was very informative, well done, and well laid out. My only complaint is that very few projects seem like something that can be done with little or no money. I think about the girls who don’t have access to over half the items in the list, and no way to get access. It’s not the fault of the author, it’s just something I think about when i choose books for a library in a high poverty area.
If you have a tween or teenage girl, this is the perfect gift to tuck under your Christmas tree. Lots of fun, indulgent recipes to treat yourself to at home self-care. Loved this one!
Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
My daughter and I loved this book. I especially enjoyed the morning and evening rituals and recipes. I appreciate even more the tip on screen time before bed.(something I've always told my kids and practice with them). I think girls will appreciate the information provided and, if they're like my daughter, they won't be able to wait until they can create some of the concoctions. Everything is written in a way a pre-teen or teen would appreciate (nothing condescending or pushy) and would get them thinking about how to take care of the outside and inside of their bodies.
Girls Home Spa Lab
Fun book with lots of ideas, tips and activities for girls in the 9 -14 year old category.
Very well laid out, divided into different categories - wellness, face, hair, body etc Each section gives advice, tips and little projects. Perfect for a group of friends or for some alone time at home. It certainly got my daughters attention and she can’t wait to try out some of the scrubs and face masks.
I loved this book, Girl's Home Spa Lab! There is so much fun packed into one cover! I have to two girls ages nine and eleven and I can't wait to try some of these concoctions with them.
The book is divided into sections discussing different topics like hair, face, hands and feet, and everyday products. There are many different recipes for face creams, hair tonics, hand and foot scrubs, or even lip balm. The recipes are made with whole ingredients like honey, herbs, and fruit.
I think this book is perfect for girls ages nine to fourteen. Get some friends together and have a spa day!
What a fun book for tween/teen girls. I will be ordering this book for my library and using it in my booktalks for upper-elementary students and middle school students.
The Girls' Home Spa Lab by Maya Pagan is the perfect book for any family with teenagers who like to pamper themselves, make recipes, or just smell and look good. The recipes are simple and the descriptions of what they do informative and the layouts colorful and attractive. I even tried out one of the recipes and can't wait to try out more. The sections of the book dedicated to self care are short but knowledgeable, perfect for the stereotypical short attention span of the teenager. These sections are just as important as the recipes, it gives suggestions on how to keep yourself healthy. Most importantly this book was fun and I will definitely be purchasing copies of this book for all the teenagers in my life.
Easy to follow guide that would require minimal to no supervision of children aged 14 and over. Perfect read for sleep overs and parties.
Girls Home Spa Lab takes the self-care pampering idea to a whole new level. From opening with establishing a good, uplifting morning routing to covering the how-tos of shaving and beyond, Girls Home Spa Lab has something for all girls, making this a fabulous book for day to day self-care, a themed birthday party, or a multi-generarional sleepover weekend.
The recipes are all-natural, giving wholesome ideas for body care, hygiene, stress relief, etc., and are paired with full-color illustrations and photographs as well as tips, lists, activities, and insight for taking care of yourself from head to toe. The ingredients needed for the recipes are easily acquired if not already in the kitchen cupboards, making the "Lab" descriptor a grab it and get started, fun activity for girls wanting to make supplies for themselves or treat their mom, teacher, grandmother, etc. to a thoughtful and usable gift.
The target audience, tween girls, has fifty recipes to choose from for hair, nails, bath, skin care, and overall wellness. Whether given as a birthday or holiday gift or saved for and self-purchased, Girls Home Spa Lab is a great addition to home bookshelves and libraries.
This book is aimed at younger girls and is probably one of the better girls spa books I’ve read as it also has a lot of info on healthy living and mindfulness which is so important.
A lovely fun book for younger girls.
