Captivating, very attractive and with refreshing children's perspective

I loved reading this book, it is very well presented with colorful images, the reading is enjoyable and refreshing from Emma's point of view. It has interesting information that was unknown to me, I did not know about grafted vegetables and I found it surprising. She also shares with us her drawings, creative ideas, and photos with her brothers from her Emma's garden, which made me feel close to the author and appreciate her innocent authenticity.

In this book Emma and her family inspire you to have your garden at home, to enjoy fun varieties of vegetables and fruits, suggestions of edible flowers, practical tips for your garden, to discover the richness of life in the garden including the birds and the beneficial insects that keep it healthy and in balance, even shows us how to build feeders and bugs and bird houses .

I was interested in the book because I have a 6-year-old boy and we planted some things in the garden. My intention has been to sensitize him to the plants as beneficial sentient beings and that he realizes his importance as a source of healthy organic food. I think it's very important that my child does not fall into irresponsible consumerism and feel appreciation for nature. I have taught him to thank the plant for its fruit and give us its life in the case of vegetables, tubers, etc. It is wonderful to see the wonderment in his eyes and enjoyment at every step, since the seedlings germinate, grow and bear fruit.

My sincere appreciation to the Publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to review the book

Gardening with Emma; Grow and Have Fun A Kid to Kid Guide is a non fiction guide written by thirteen year old by Emma Biggs, with some help from her father Steven Biggs. It is currently scheduled for release on February 5 2019. This book offers instruction and insight into growing healthy food and raising the coolest, most awesome plants, while making sure there’s plenty of fun. With plants that tickle and make noise, tips for how to grow a flower stand garden, and suggestions for veggies from tiny to colossal, Emma offers a range of original, practical, and entertaining advice and inspiration. She provides lots of useful know-how about soil, sowing, and caring for a garden throughout the seasons, along with ways to make play spaces among the plants. Lively photography and Emma’s own writing (with some help from her gardening dad, Steve) capture the authentic creativity of a kid who loves to be outdoors, digging in the dirt.

Gardening with Emma is a well organized, helpful, and engaging guide to gardening. I think children and their parents could benefit from the read. I like that Emma lays out why adults and children garden differently, and what might cause conflict between them. I liked her suggestion of fun plants to grow, and having a designated garden or part of a garden. Emma also gave good information about different plants and their needs, as well as the tools and tasks that are necessary. I think that Emma's photographs and illustrations add an extra connection and sometime humorous touch that help readers connect to her and the information. My family gardened heavily when I was a kid, and I do not remember having the kind of interest and fun Emma does in the process. Hopefully this book will help inspire some young gardeners, and their parents, to kick it up a notch.

Gardening with Emma is a delightful guide, and I enjoyed the take on gardening advice. I think this is a wonder way for children to get more excited and involved in gardening, and help adults remember that excitement and why they love gardening as well.

Emma, I am not a gardener but reading your book makes me think that I could be!
The pictures are bright and show how appetizing fruits and vegetables can be.
The flowers are beautiful as well.
The directions for making items that you can use to grow things in your garden are awesome! Maybe someday we can use your book at our school to grow some of the things you suggest and make some of the items, too. Maybe we can start with a bug habitat!
I could go on for hours about all the things you included in this book that I would like to share with my students.
But suffice it to say, this book can be used by children and adults to become outdoor students of nature.

What a fun book. Written from the point of view of Emma, who is 12, the reader gets a nice perspective of how a kid views the garden. I remember helping my own parents and doing different plants for 4-H, but this takes it to a whole new level. Also enjoyed her discussion with what weeds are edible. Will have to try some of these, to see how it goes. Love how she talks about the soil, the watering, the bugs, etc. Easy to follow and shows a lot of visuals that really help explain her concepts. Well worth the read, whether you have kids or just want to get into gardening yourself. Well written and fun to read. Highly recommend this book.

Gardening with Emma is a must have book for any wild child. It features brilliant illustrations and bright images throughout with easy to follow advice and instructions. My daughter is going to create a bean teepee next year with the idea taken from this book.

This is a book by a young lady for children, but I have to tell you I learned alot too. Emma is 12 years old and has done a lot of research for this book. Among my many hobbies gardening is one of them. I want to pass on the thrill of growing your own vegetables and fruits to my Granddaughter. With this book it is a great way to start and continue the tradition. From growing vegetables to different types of bugs this book tells you everything about them and how to care for them. The good part is that it is written for children by a child. It covers planting, soil, watering and goes into some science information. There is also a little on bird watching and bird houses. The pictures are very entertaining and it will hold a child's interest. I recommend this book for 3+ though younger children you may have to read it to them. This book will inspire children to garden and the joy of growing their own food.
I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I adore the cover of “Gardening with Emma: Grow and Have Fun: A Kid-to-Kid Guide” by Emma Biggs and her father Steve, which conveys Emma’s spirit and playful approach to gardening. And this book is chock-filled with such useful info that I learned so much and I think kids will too and have a blast reading it!

Thirteen-year-old Emma is an unabashed enthusiast and she eagerly shares her passion for growing healthy food and raising the coolest, most awesome plants. She keeps it super fun, focusing on such topics as plants that tickle and make noise, tips for growing a flower stand garden, and suggestions for veggies from tiny to humungous. She also offers original, practical, and entertaining advice and inspiration that will make kids put down their digital devices, head to the garden and grow green thumbs. Lively writing and gorgeous photos make this a must-read. 5/5

I'd like to thank Netgalley, Storey Publishing, LLC and Emma & Steven Biggs for this ARC of Gardening with Emma.

I chose to read this book with my 3 year old and she was enthralled! The pictures and illustrations are wonderful! Before I get to that though, first let me say that I can't recommend this book enough for families who love gardening or who would love to start. Gardening with Emma is such a sweet and informative book with beautiful pictures and wonderful ideas! There are even pages in here that tell you about edible flowers, the right soils, different bugs, and honestly there is so much more! There are neat little activities for kids to do throughout the book. I love how descriptive and informative Gardening with Emma is (I even learned some new things)! My daughter and I love to get our hands dirty and we love playing in our own garden, so I can't wait to try out some of the things in this book!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review,

Gardening with Emma has been a pleasure to read ,
There is so much covered in this book, she explains about weeds covering the edible ones, and goes onto soil. I was really impressed how she explained how soil is made up and the different types, this is really good for kids to be aware of and often though to technical for children who end up thinking mud is just mud!
Sun and water and how much of each needed is explained, as is what supplies and tools are useful and needed.
The insect section is very informative especially the bug fact pages.

How to make a bug vacuum is brilliant and certainly something my kids would love!

so onto the bee section, i was a little disappointed at first with the bee information as there was a lot more on slugs and caterpillars but was pleased to find more info later in the book about bees.
The a-z garden and colour guide are very good and well explained for children to see the variety, and the tomato guide is amazing! i really liked the "grow a pizza" .

As well as the above Emma also covers birds and bird watching, growing your own garden from planting and care to greenhouses and cold frames and house plants.
Emma has done a great job of covering so much in just one book.

The photos are fun and interesting for children too.

I have just one small negative comment and that is about Japanese knot weed. while i agree it was nice to see it covered in the edible section i felt there should be a warning about this plant as it can be a real problem in some countries and areas, and even have rules in some places with regard to not cutting it.

I was very impressed with the content of Gardening with Emma. It was filled with quite a bit of information about gardening, including such topics as good and bad bugs, creating beneficial containers, and even edible flowers. There were many photos/illustrations that added to the allure of this well written and researched book.
Very highly recommended!

I love gardening and wish to pass it on to my three children. I love the idea of a kid-to-kid gardening guide; something that might interest my kids on their own.

I thing Gardening with Emma is a great book. It is full of good advice for the beginner gardener and maybe a seasoned gardener with kids. Emma's love for plants radiates off each page. She has chapters on flowers, tomatoes, garden pests, and problems. Mostly, the book encourages children to grow whatever they want and have fun!

I loved this book and hope to buy it for my kids.

Wonderful book encouraging kids to be outside and to have fun doing something productive, something that benefits a whole family and something they can use to build their life with. If a kid can learn to garden at a young age, they will always know how to grow food, thus not be hungry. Its wonderful that it is a passion for some!

I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
