I personally found with this book to be very difficult to get into the story. I thought that the plot, story line and word building was rather weak. Although there seemed to be lots of action, the story itself was not very exciting. Lots of back forth from forests to towns yet without a clear understand of the adjacent forest.

This story is more geared to younger readers who would probably find the story somewhat enjoyable..

Thank you for letting me read this book. I loved it! I will be posting this review on my blog, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Goodreads.

My review:

The Watcher of the Night Sky was a hidden gem that I found on Netgalley. Without Netgalley, I don’t think I’d have ever found it, which would have been unfortunate, because it’s one of the best books I’ve read this year.

When I first found The Watcher of the Night Sky, I wasn’t looking for a serious book. The description sounded a tad fluffy - which was okay - because that’s what I was looking for at the time. This book took me by complete surprise. It wasn’t fluffy at all! It was clever, and had humor, heartbreak, magic, memorable characters, and a grand adventure. It was well-conceived, and compelling, and I had a hard time putting it down. I wasn’t looking for a book like this, but I’m glad I found it.

With the exception of one, all the guys “in love” with Abigail were one-of-a-kind. They had unique personalities, and talents, and I loved watching them all work together to help Abigail with her quest.

I loved the sweet and strong friendship Abigail and Olivia had. Abigail was constantly picked on by her classmates, because of her looks, and Olivia never let it slide. She always stood up to the bullies, because of her love and loyalty to Abigail. When Abigail decides to leave her home in order to get her wish reversed, Olivia insists on coming along. Abigail and Olivia reminded me a lot of Frodo and Sam, another incredibly strong friendship.

The Watcher of the Night Sky has all the ingredients needed for a great YA fantasy, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

This... Is very much a YA book. I'd go so far as to say perhaps even pre teen. I would not recommend it to older teens and adults. It's very two dimensional, and the author has not yet learnt that dragging your protag through unending action does not necessarily make it exciting. The world building is a little lacking, making me think of a rectangular patch of land with plot points scattered along it in a linear fashion. Lots of dashing back and forth, into and out of forests and towns, but without a clear sense of the land surrounding the characters.
They also commit the novice error of using a mirror to describe the protagonist. It's very tiresome to read such a weak plot device, and is immediately obvious to more seasoned readers.
However, evaluating for a pre teen audience, I would hazard a guess that it would be moderately enjoyable, a light and fast paced introduction to fantasy novels.

Sounds interesting and I like the cover. The opening feels like you’re settling in for a fairytale. Poor Abigail top of her class and bullied by boys makes a wish upon a star, a wish that comes true in the form of a curse. Favourite of the seven is Clay. Abigail needs to toughen up a bit and learn what privacy is. I liked the comedy added by the variety of guys, especially the constant bickering between two enemies.
