This is definitely a case of don't judge a book by its cover - or, in this case, a nurse by how she initially seems to be! Samantha Braithwaite is a nurse who is always striving to achieve more, though she initially seems very shy. She's working in ER who wants to join the Special Disasters Response Team but Dr Blake Cooper, the head of the team, thinks she's too quiet and shy - so she sets out to prove him wrong!
I particularly enjoyed the background details of the training and courses these dedicated professionals have to attend to qualify to be members of such specialist teams. Samantha attends one such course in the Blue Mountains, trying to avoid being on one with the judgemental Dr Blake . . . . needless to say, he also ends up there but as the course leader! As sparks fly between the two, there's plenty of drama to keep readers turning the pages and enjoying this medical romance which I happily recommend to anyone who enjoys this genre.
I requested and was given a copy of this book, via NetGalley. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.
I love a good medical romance and this one didn't disappoint. Romantic, with just the right amount of medical action, I couldn't put this book down.
Thank you to Mills & Boon Insiders and to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed the storyline ans, also, the situation of the story on Bondi Bay Hospital. The storyline, as with many medical romances, tries to mix medical and romantic situations. The balance was just right in this one. A good book to take on holiday.
The Shy Nurse's Rebel Doc is the first book in the Bondi Bay Heroes series by Alison Roberts.
Samantha Braithwaite is an ER Nurse at Bondi Bay Hospital. She loves her job but she wants more. She has led a life always making sure she does nothing dangerous in order to keep her mother happy. As time has gone on though she has been unsatisfied with playing safe and decides to look into joining a Special Disaster Response team. She'd still have her full-time job, but she would also be called upon in emergencies to help rescue people.
Blake Cooper is an ER consultant, he is also the head of the Special Disaster Response team. At first contact with Samantha, he sees her as a bit of a shy princess. He wonders why she chose to work in an ER department. He is even more confused when he finds out that she wants to join the response team. There is no way she will be suitable. Samantha sets out to prove him wrong!
This was a great story because not only do we have the steamy hot romance developing despite them thinking it's a very bad idea, but the SDR side of the story was great too. It was really interesting, and I especially enjoyed reading about the training course that took place in the Blue Mountains and the drama that unfolds there. This really was a captivating story which I can happily recommend.
This is quite a brief novel and I felt it would be perfect for anyone who is lucky enough to have the time to be able to read it in one sitting. I do enjoy reading medical romances and for me the most interesting parts of the story were the ones which took place on the specialist training sessions for the disaster response team. The hero and the heroine were both very likeable and I found that I did care about how and when they got together.
Ever since her brother died in a climbing accident. Sam has been forced to live a life without any danger. She is just starting a new job and plans on joining the hospitals Specialist Disaster Response Team. Blake takes one look at the blonde nurse, and automatically judges her in a less than flattering way. Its not helped by her almost causing an accident with some bed pans. Sam really has to work hard to show Blake just how serious she is. This story had a bit of everything. the drama of the SDR and then the romance. Recommended for fans of contemporary romance. ARC received from net galley as part of Mills & Boon insiders.
The Shy Nurse's Rebel Doctor, written by Alison Roberts is published by Mills & Boon Medical on 26 July 2018 and is the first in the Bondi Bay Heros series. ER Nurse Samantha, Sam, Braithwaite has always had to err on the side of caution in order to placate her parents after the loss of her dare devil brother. After moving to a new hospital in Bondi Bay, however, she is determined to join the Specialist Disaster Response Team. She doesn't get off to a good start, however, as on her first day she collides with long haired, motorbike riding consultant Blake Cooper who is also in charge of the Disaster Response Team. Blake has given up his dream job with Medicin San Frontier in order to care for his mother. Will she be able to break out of her safe little cotton wool bubble and get what she wants out of live, no matter what the risks - and that list includes the Dr!
The two main characters don't make the best first impression on each other as their first meeting is quite dramatic. The dialogue and interaction between the two is at times amusing at others intense. There is definite chemistry between the pair that they try and resist.

Alison Roberts’ ‘The Shy Nurse’s Rebel Doc’ is a slow-burning, loving tale of learning to let go of the past, finding yourself, and embracing the sometimes terrifying yet amazing love that can appear out of nowhere and change everything in your life for the better.
Sam and Blake are so similar, yet so different at the same time, and it is endearing to experience as the reader. From bad first impressions to begrudging respect earning to surprising feelings of love which for a while aren’t identified as love but lust instead, this couple takes the reader on an emotional rollercoaster that you want to ride over and over. Sam has hopes, dreams, and aspirations, and starting at this new job is moving her in the right direction of being able to achieve those. Blake is already in residence at the hospital she’s joining, and a part of the search and rescue team that she wants to be a part of. After a series of misunderstandings and lack of communication, they both realize that they can actually work together extremely well, even with all the emotional baggage that neither of them necessarily wish to address at the moment. The medical jargon is succinct and believable, not making the reader feel inadequate for not having a medical degree but lending an air of credibility. Blake and Sam both have to find the words to express how they feel, before circumstances occur that make it too late to do so!
This was a fast paced read that I easily devoured in one sitting. I didn’t mind the slow-burn of the development of their relationship, enjoying the time spent in both their minds as I got to learn what made each of them tick before they learned that about each other. Although quite abrupt, I simply loved the ending, that seize-the-day attitude that both of them needed to be reminded of and re-learn how to embrace to be at their happiest with one another, which then will easily spill over into the rest of their lives, both personal and professional. If you’re looking for an engaging read with a medical twist, a journey of self-discovery and acceptance, and love that can withstand anything (once accepted!) then look no further and be ready to fall for the rebel Doc and his shy nurse!
