This sweet romance is lovely. The story is well written and captivating. The characters are well drawn and believable. And I adored the heroine, Avery.
Thank you to Mills & Boon Insiders and to NetGalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Two high flyers who do what all sorts of flyers do and have to deal with the consequences. The story was quite fast paced, the characters very believable and the ending just right.
Would recommend.
I liked the way that the author kicked off this story in such a quick way that the course of the novel meant the hero and heroine could work through and resolve the issues that they thought stood in the way of their relationship. I liked the way that they communicated with each other and came to realise how they could overcome their assumptions and personal prejudices to work together as a real partnership and then a family. This author always writes well about the mental side of romance and I really enjoy her honest and straightforward style.
Lawyer Avery Novak and businessman Jake McCallan have little in common, and apparently don’t suit each other’s lifestyles, but fate has other ideas in this sweet romance from Susan Meier.
Following a three week fling, we pick up the story six months later when Jake sees Avery again by chance, only to find her six months pregnant with his baby.
Green spirited Avery is the opposite of serious Jake, who plans his life down to the finest detail, but, finding out he is about to become a father forces him to look at how he lives his life, and take a chance on finding a compromise if he is to convince Avery they have a chance at happiness.
Susan Meier has created two believable, likeable characters who have a genuine chemistry despite their differing backgrounds, and it is heartwarming to watch the change in Jake as he struggles to adapt to falling in love and accept that the best laid plans need to change in order to find your happy ending.
With a romantic New York and Paris backdrop we follow Avery and Jake as they have a crash course in getting to know each other and finding a common ground before the arrival of their child.
The supporting characters are also delightful; Jake’s mother Maureen shines in her scenes, and there are enough hints about the lost love of Jake’s brother Seth that he has scope for his own story.
An easy going, highly enjoyable romance that leaves you smiling, and proves that, sometimes, opposites do attract.
The first in the Manhattan Babies series, Carrying the Billionaire's Baby is part of Mills and Boon's True Love series and is written by Susan Meier. Avery Novak and Jake Mcallan have a short lived and passionate affair that has long lasting consequences. Avery is working hard as lawyer in Manhattan at the law firm Waters, Waters & Montgomery, which is the firm used by Jake, so she can go back to her home town and open a not for profit criminal defence centre after seeing her father sent to prision for a crime he didn't commit. Jake is a billionaire, interested in making money. When they were together they argued about politics, principles etc with all of them being diametrically opposed. He felt she was critical of his indulgent, privileged lifestyle and background. He takes her to Paris for the weekend and puts her up in his beach side house in order to try and persuade her he can be a good father, but will it work?
This book runs true to the aims behind the new True Love series. Avery is a criminal lawyer who has worked hard so she can go back to Pennsylvania and open a not for profit criminal law centre. She is capable of and plans to be a full time working mother. It is Jake that will have to change to prove that he is worthy of being a full time dad and husband. I enjoyed the interaction between the main characters and Jake's mother and felt all the characters were relatable to the reader.
I received this book via Netgalley and Mills and Boon in exchange for an honest review. I am a #MillsAndBoonInsider
A keep you on your emotional toes story, with this happy ever after romance. A well written sexy read.
Enjoyed it.
Susan Meier’s ‘Carrying the Billionaire’s Baby’ is a heartwarming story that doles out second chances and the opportunity for two individuals that carry around their fair share of pain to not only shoulder one another’s loads, but also learn how to be truly themselves after having had to meet the expectations of others for so long.
Jake and Avery are an interesting couple that you cannot help but root for, even as they choose to misunderstand one another throughout the start of the story. The narrative starts approximately six months after they broke up, having had a short fling of a relationship where they constantly butted heads and only ever really communicated effectively in the bedroom. Jake finds out she’s pregnant, finds out that the baby is his, and they face a whirlwind of emotions and actions as they attempt to determine how, and whether it is at all possible, that they might coexist in the life of their unborn child. Families get involved on both sides, and love and what it really means is shown, even though neither of them know what to do with it when it comes to their burgeoning relationship. Emotion and tension runs high as they try to figure out whether they can make room for one another in their lives, whether work always has to come first or if the love they have for the future they’ve created, and the love they have for each other, even as they continue to be stubborn about it, can be enough.
I devoured this story in one sitting, enjoying the fast paced nature of it, and riding the roller coaster of a character journey that both Avery and Jake go on. Interestingly enough, whilst Jake is a billionaire, and his money does make certain things a lot easier in the story, I greatly enjoyed the emphasis placed on how money does not always equate happiness; it can make things easier and that often can be pleasing, but that without someone to spend it with, spend it on, or to just be with regardless of money, that it really isn’t worth all that much in the long run. I wanted to reach into the story and give both of them a good talking to whenever they deliberately, even if it was unintentionally, misunderstood one another and caused the other pain; the author had me right there, and I wanted more. If you’re looking for an engaging read that focuses on the emotional journey of two people finding that they do deserve true love and happiness in all its shapes and forms, look no further than this story, where loving one’s self helps Jake and Avery learn to accept the love they have for each other and their child.
Avery & Jake had a short lived affair. Which leaves long lasting consequences. Jake doesn't even know she is pregnant. Until he sees her at his lawyers office. He is shocked. But he wants to be part of his babies life. Avery is very independent, a little unbending in what she wants. When a photographer catches them together in the street, then prints the picture. Its a race to get to Paris and his mother, before she finds out the news by paper. As they spend time together Avery gets to see a different side to Jake. Can they work through the issues keeping them apart? Pick up a copy and see. Recommended for fans of contemporary and second chance romance. ARC received as part of Mills & Boon insiders.
