The third, and sadly final, instalment of the Byrne family trilogy.
You will need to read the first two to understand the family history and dynamics.
Get yourself comfortable and ready to feel a rollercoaster of emotions!
Definitely recommend anything written by Casey Kelleher.
The Forgotten – Casey Kelleher
Casey Kellehers books are great for fans of Kimberley Chambers, Martina Cole and Dreda Say Mitchell. They are family gangland thrillers based in London filled with drugs and violence but they always show us that family comes first no matter what. This is the third book in the Byrne family saga with the second being The Betrayed and the third The Broken. In my opinion they are better read in order, just to allow the reader to knowledge of whose who and who belongs to which family.
This book is centred on the Byrne family and the kidnap of her daughter Scarlett while out on a walk with her Grandad. Nancy is stressed out building up her fathers businesses, the most recent being a private members club she has to try to find out who has her daughter and then to make them pay and damn will they pay. It makes you wonder if her position is help or a hindrance after all lets be fair she’s garnered an enemy or two along the way. There’s some faces from the past popping up and let’s just say that they aren’t exactly welcome.
It must a bit of a task being a working mum when you’re dealing with thugs and murderers, know that almost everything you do is done in the murky shadows of London’s underworld. Nancy is one of the toughest and most likeable female protagonists I’ve come across in this genre for a while. One of the things I like about her the most is her complete intolerance to bullshit; she doesn’t stand for it from anyone it doesn’t matter how big their boots are.
Please be aware if you decide to give Casey Kelleher books a whirl there is a fair amount of bad language, drug sales and misuse.
Read for an honest review. Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture
I just love Casey Kelleher's books!!! She writes kick-ass East-end bad guys (and gals) and keeps you in suspense from the beginning to the very end, leaving the reader quite exhausted!
This is the third book in the Byrne series, and they just get better. This book will read nicely as a standalone, but ask yourself the question, do you really want to miss out on the series..... I promise you, you don't!
Well written and worth the time and effort.
This is the 3rd book in the Byrne Family trilogy and in my opinion the best yet.
Nancy Byrne is on the up. a new place for her girls to work and she's looking to take over Alfie Harris's club.
She's a women that you wouldn't want to mess with.
And who the fuck are you lot then?
I’m the owner, babe! Nancy said then, smiling now that the formal introductions had been made. That was all this piece of shit needed to know. And I’m here to get every one of you skanky pieces of shit out of my club
Her enemies know she has a weakness though...... her little daughter Scarlett and she is unaware that they are watching.
The infamous Nancy Byrne and her perfect little family.
My thoughts...
OMG I absolutely loved this book. I wasn't sure how Nancy and the Bryne family could develop further from the last two books. But Casey Kelleher you exceeded my expectations. The plot, the characters and the writing made this an fantastic gritty thriller.

This is book three in a series following the lives of the Byrne family. A criminal family with more fights and scandals within the family than with their enemies.
This book follows Nancy who has taken over her fathers empires and is showing the world that she’s not to be messed with. She’s also trying to be a good role model and mother to Scarlett her three year old daughter.
I have loved all the books in this series and love the characters.
Highly recommend!
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for a honest review.
This was a fantastic book. It is the third in the series and I have enjoyed them all. You could read this as a stand alone but it is such a good series you are missing out if you don’t read them all. Love this authors work and enjoy all her books.
This is the third book about the Bryne family and I really enjoyed it. I hadn't liked the second book as much. We are a few years on and Nancy has had a beautiful daughter named Scarlett. Throughout the story we discover several different people who want to take their revenge on Nancy. So when Scarlett is kidnapped there are plenty suspects! Read on.
I am massively behind with so many authors and books and considering I was desperate to read this and have had it so long it has taken me ages! However, when I finally did get around to it (last night) it soon became apparent I was in for a late night. For those that maybe haven't read the previous 2 books, could you read as a standalone? I guess so, but I would also hazard a guess that the book would seem slightly over the top in parts and slightly confusing in places. I think to really appreciate this you have to have read the backstory in the previous two books.
My first Casey book was her first release over 6 years ago and I thoroughly enjoyed that very first book. I have gone on to enjoy all of the books she has written since then, however this book....it's most definitely her best book yet and one that makes it feel like she has been writing forever. I picked this up later afternoon on Sunday and by the Monday morning I was squeezing the last few pages into my commute. It didn't take me long to refresh my memory regarding the infamous Bryne clan.
I won't re-has the hundreds of reviews before me, and the storyline is one that doesn't need to be expanded on (especially as I am so late to the party with this book). What I will say is that this book had literally everything I could have wished for. It was engaging, full of drama and intrigue as well as being gritty and an absolutely banging end to this brilliant trilogy. It seems Casey is well and truly carving her own niche in the world of crime. I am really looking forward to what comes next for this author!
I would like to thank Bookouture Publishing and the Netgalley website for this partnership.
I am a fan of the series, the author and especially the covers that immediately attracts the reader.
We find here the beautiful Nancy always at the head of the Byrne family who wants to protect her little daughter Scarlett from trouble. Until the day Scarlett was abducted on a walk in a park. Will she find her and make her enemies pay?
A captivating thriller, full of suspense and twists with engaging characters.
Brilliant third book, was good to get back and see what had been going on with the Byrne family. I love books in a series showing was has happened in their lives. Well written look forward to another one!
Wow another great read I have loved all her books but this one excelled I would have given 10 stars if I could
Nancy Byrne is head of the notorious Byrne crime family , she has a daughter named Scarlett. Scarlett will have the best of everything that Nancy can provide for her. Then one day, Scarlett is taken by a stranger while at a park. Nancy will not take this lying down, once she finds the person responsible, the fires of hell will erupt! I would like to thank Net Galley and Bookouture for a copy of this book for me to review.
Having read and loved Casey Kelleher's other books, I had very high expectations of this one and it didn’t disappoint in the slightest.
The Forgotten has everything that you come to expect from a Casey Kelleher book, a solid gritty plot and a bunch of characters whom you like and dislike in equal measures.
This is the third book in the Byrne Family trilogy and I would highly recommend the whole series to crime thriller fans as I found it to be absolutely brilliant. I am sad that the series appears to have come to the end, but look forward to reading whatever Casey writes about next.
An easy to read book. A good plot, although it would be quite hard to understand fully without reading the previous books in the series. Complicated yet understandable characters. All in all a very enjoyable read, I would recommend reading the whole trilogy in order to make the most of this book though.
Thanks a million Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this book.
This is the 3rd book in the trilogy. I would recommend reading them in order.
What an explosive read. Nancy is now head of the family and head of all the shady businesses. She has given birth to a daughter Scarlett and she is Nancy's world!! When Scarlett is kidnapped Nancy and Scarlett's father Jack, who is also a shady cop, will stop at nothing to get her back!
I loved the fact I was able to pick up this book and delve right in as if I had just put down the 2nd book.
Plenty of explosive action because the Byrne family have their own way of dishing out punishments!!!
Get reading folks you definitely won't be disappointed!!!
Highly recommend it.
If you like this genre of ‘modern gangland family thrillers’ then this book cannot and will not disappoint
Although this is Book 3 it stands alone well and you get relevant snippets and info on the back stories that run through the book, if you haven’t read the first 2 I think this book will make you go and order them
The Byrne family are great and include the best and worst of characters, all fascinating and easy to ‘get to know’ and a few pages in its like your watching/reading your fav soap or series and enjoying every minute
The story races along and dont think there is a moment where my mind wandered as I got involved with all the sub stories
Marie ‘the nurse’ is one charcater to look out for, she is chilling and plays a great role in the book
Its raw, hard hitting and REAL and exciting
Loved it 10/10 5 Stars
If I didn't wonder what went through the author's head before now, I certainly do now!! What an explosive, heart in mouth, gut wrenching novel this is! 'The Forgotten' may be the third and final book in the 'Byrne Family' trilogy, but it certainly packs a punch!
I don't want to reveal too much in case I accidentally give anything away, however I do urge you to switch off/unplug any phone before you begin Casey Kelleher's latest release as it requires your undivided attention and, if you're anything like me, you would be incredibly annoyed if you were to get to the nitty gritty parts of the book and get disturbed by someone telling you that you have had an accident. Y'know, THOSE calls.
There are a lot of unlikeable characters in this book, yet weirdly enough, there are also a few characters who you just can't help but like. Even if they are amongst the 'bad guys'. I love Nancy's persona and her fiery attitude - she certainly knows how to put people in their place! Okay her actions are somewhat questionable, yet she is a character who I just love. She's one hell of a b.....ch, I love it!
Despite Nancy's frosty exterior, her softer side was awakened when she had her daughter, Scarlett. However, things don't always go to plan and when Scarlett went missing, I felt physically sick. I had no idea what was going to happen, but based on the outcomes for other characters in the book, I didn't hold out much hope. You would need to be made of stone for that part of the storyline not to affect you in some way!
Casey Kelleher never fails to deliver on suspense, grit, powerful situations, and thrilling circumstances. 'The Forgotten' is one book that you won't be forgetting in a hurry what with its cut throat storyline, its rollercoaster themes, and enough grit to cover the length of the M25....twice.
Omg where the hell do I start....
Having been a fan of Casey for many years I always look forward to her latest novel. She has grown from strength to strength with her writing and I have to say The Forgotten is without a doubt her best book to date. yes I keep saying this but she has totally smashed it....I freaking loved it! Fans of Casey are in for one hell of a treat when we catch up with the Byrne family in the last installment of this fantastic trilogy.
With an OMFG prologue has always I was hooked. I was itching to know what was going to happen when the last book The Betrayed leaves us with a NO WAY ending. So yes this book needs to be read has a trilogy. The author takes us on a roller coaster ride of your life where we follow a story told in two parts.
Like all grit lit novels there are characters that you will love and hate and like I have said before she has a gift of making you connect with the characters, whether they are good or bad people and taking you through a whirlwind of emotions making you happy or angry has the tension builds up. And crikey does the tension build up in this story.... leaving me trying to pick my jaw up off the floor. I am totally blow away, this is grit lit with a capital G.
It ticked all the boxes for me and is without a doubt one of the best books I have read this year. Fans of Kimberly Chambers and Dreda Mitchell will love it. I cannot recommend it enough giving it all the freaking stars!!
This is a fantastic series and I love the gritty writing style, it works so well with the characters!
The writing style was spot on as I had hoped and it definitely gave an added edge to the story. I loved the characters interaction and I was hooked by the story from the start through to the brilliant ending. It completely gripped me and I loved being immersed back in to the characters story.
I do think for this one that to get the most out of it you need to read the author’s other books in the series before you read this one as there are spoilers in it about what has happened previously to Nancy and Scarlett.
Another excellent story from this author – no hesitation in giving this one 5 stars – very highly recommended!! I thoroughly enjoyed it!!
This is the final part in a trilogy and the series must be read in order. This part of the series blew me away as so much comes to light that I hadn’t expected. The author kept me gripped throughout.
Although this is the final part in the trilogy the ending gives the hint of more to come. I certainly hope this is the authors intention as I have loved this series and honestly don’t want it to end.
Huge thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for providing a copy.
