Oh wow! How I’ve loved this series! After the shocking events in the previous book, Nancy is now running her crime boss father’s empire, despite still grieving for him, and having recently given birth to her baby daughter Scarlett.
Determined to succeed as a business woman and give Scarlett everything, she closes one of the brothels and sets up an upmarket swanky spa with no expense spared. Unfortunately as they are about to open, there’s a break in, in which Bridget gets hurt. Nancy and her long time family friend, Jack, also father to her baby girl, and detective inspector in the police force are determined to find the culprit and eke out revenge.
It’s not just this perpetrator she should be looking for though, as it appears Nancy has a list of people plotting against her, dying to hurt the “ice queen”.
We meet a few new characters during this cleverly crafted book, and some demons from the past resurface with a desperate need to pay her back for past sins.
When Scarlett goes missing from the park, Nancy pulls out all the stops to find her daughter. She is distraught and petrified she will never see her baby again, until they get a lead. The only problem is time. Will they get to her in time to save her?
You’ll have to read it for yourself to find out!!
I’ve read all three books in this trilogy and have to say I loved them!
There’s something about all the characters that draws you in and whilst some of their methods in sorting things out are a bit extreme, I can see why they’d react that way due to their way of life.
In this book Nancy gives birth to Scarlett and she soon becomes the centre of everyone’s world.
Colleen is desparate to be there for her as she was unable to bond with her own daughter but will Joanie let her in?
The relationship between these two women reaches boiling point and whilst Colleen is told a few home truths, the women begrudgingly get along.
There’s also a blast from the past in this book and they are out for revenge.
When Scarlett is taken Nancy’s world comes tumbling down but both her and Jack are determined to find her and punish those responsible.
This is a gripping read and one of the best Gangland crime thrillers I’ve read.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
The Forgotten is the final book in the Byrne Family trilogy (The Betrayed and The Broken being book #1 and #2) and as much as I’ve been desperate to read it there is also a pang of regret. This is the end of the road for this series and I’ve really enjoyed being on the journey from the beginning. I highly recommend reading all three to immerse yourself in the dark underworld of The Byrnes! I’ve always maintained that I’m not a fan of gangland books but Casey Kelleher forced me to make a 360 on this decision and in my opinion she is the Queen of this genre.
In The Forgotten Nancy Byrne is still the head of the lucrative family business but there are a lot of people that would like to see her topple and are jealous of her success. Faces from the past are watching, growing envious and desperate for a slice of Nancy’s glamourous life…whatever the danger. Now, I for one would not go poking about with the wasp’s nest that is Nancy Byrne, forget that! She is feared for a reason and you’d have to be a little bit dim, or a little unhinged to think you could get one over on her. Someone is daft enough to abduct Nancy’s precious daughter Scarlett and you can guarantee there will be hell to pay and blood shed when the culprit is found. We see Nancy at her most vulnerable but it brought to mind a quote from Agatha Christie: “A mother's love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity. It dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path.”
I loved reuniting with all the familiar faces and meeting some new characters – look out for a particularly dedicated nurse (she needs her own series!). A fantastic conclusion to the trilogy. I’m going to miss The Byrnes but can’t wait to see what’s next from Casey Kelleher.
To get the full benefit of this book I highly recommended that you read Casey's previous two books first which are called The Betrayal and The Broken. This is a trilogy and this latest book The Forgotten is the final book to the highly explosive trilogy and boy is it good.
Having read and loved the first two books to the trilogy, I have been waiting ever so patiently to get my hands on the final book The Forgotten, and finally having now read it I can sincerely say that it was worth the wait.
So I loved this and my actaul words when finishing the book was 'Wow, absolutely triple wow'. It truly is another fantastic gripping read from Casey. She really does know how to keep her readers entertained.
I loved the story, found it to be a real page turner right from the get go. Absolutely gripping and fast paced, plus it was great to see the reappearance of all the great characters from previous two books especially Nancy, they really are so well written that you forget they are not real as you inmurst yourself truly into the story. I fell in love with the newest addition to the Byrne family, little Miss Scarlett, she's adorable and has her whole family wrapped round her little finger lol.
The ending to this amazing outstanding trilogy was out of this world, I especially loved the little twist at the end.
So if you haven't read any of Casey's books before, then don't delay any further as her books are highly entertaining that leave you grasping for more.
Amazing!!! This is the third book in the byrne family series and I'm completely hooked. Casey kelleher is now among my favourite crime writers and I eagerly await the next one!!
Thanks for the chance to read this book!
The third and final part of the Byrne family series and the best yet! Nancy is back in this gritty gangster tale and when her young daughter is kidnapped, there will be hell to pay. Another great book by Casey Kelleher. I would recommend starting with book one, although this is a stand alone, for background details on the characters. Thanks to Net Galley for my copy. Reviewed on Goodreads and Facebook with Amazon to follow.
WOW - what a ride! This book is pure gangland GOLD!
I've always enjoyed all the books I've read by Casey Kelleher, but in my opinion this one is the best yet! The first two in the Byrne family trilogy were great, I loved getting to know the characters and watching how the story developed. They both left me wanting to read the next and were fab in their own right - but this one has absolutely blown them out of the water.
Everything has been leading to this, all the twists and turns and with beautifully planned long story arcs coming to a head. There were so many points in this book that I thought I had figured out what was coming - only for Casey to throw a total curve ball into the mix! I felt like I was on a roller coaster and I definitely didn't want to get off. I couldn't put it down.
I don't want to slip any spoilers, but for anyone who enjoys great, gritty gangland reads, this book (the whole trilogy really) is definitely for you!
Blinding end to a colourful, complex series.
Thrilled to bits, is a bit of an understatement to be lucky enough to get an ARC of this book. I have loved this series of books and here we are at book 3.
What a flipping read it was. I loved every single page, every chapter made you want to read on, just one more, just one more. If this book had been 800 pages long I would have still wanted more.
Casey Kelleher certainly knows how to write a book that gets you hooked, I don't know how but each and every book beats the last one. when finishing the last book you just don't believe that it can ever be topped but Casey has managed that, TEN FOLD.
I'm more than a little impressed with these books.
Back with the Byrne family, It's been great following this family through life's struggles and It's great to see how Nancy has grown up and really come into herself. Now the head of the Byrne empire, Nancy takes nonsense from no one.
Nancy is now also trying to be a good mother to her baby girl. Still keeping the business going and juggling motherhood, Nancy is besides herself when the past catches up and her beautiful daughter Scarlett is snatched from the park.
One thing is for sure Nancy will go to the ends of the earth to get her little girl back, but is it to late?
There has to come a time in life that if you take things from others, that one day it will be payback.
An outstanding read, if you have read any other book by this author and enjoyed it, then let me tell you, this is the best book yet.
What more is there to say, I mean shall I waffle on about it or shall I just say, go buy it, go treat yourself. If you haven't read any of these books then you'd be thrilled to know that all 3 books are available and less than £6. I mean come on we spend that on tatt some days. Spend it on something that will give you hours of entertainment. These books will certainly do that. Imagine if your going away anytime soon, you could just rest, relax and get lost in the world of the Byrne family.
I'm speechless as to how much I enjoyed everything there was about this book. Best one yet!
This is the third and final book in the Byrne family trilogy and all I can say is wow this book was simply fantastic . I devoured this book from the very first page Having read bd loved all of Casey Kellehers books they just keep on getting better and better . Highly recommended for fans of Martina Cole and Kimberley Chambers . This book can be read as a stand-alone but personally I recommend reading them in order to get an understanding of the Byrne family and their background. A massive massive five stars from me .
the third instalment of the byrne family and their gangster empire. an enjoyable read for this genre.
many thanks to netgalley and the publishers for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
After the death of her beloved father, the notorious gangster Jimmy Byrne, nothing’s stopping Nancy from making money on her own terms – even if she has to combine motherhood with providing for her entire family. But with enemies at their door, she’ll do whatever it takes to protect her loved ones.
But then comes the day when Scarlett goes missing, snatched by a stranger during a trip to the local park, and Nancy’s world is torn apart. Amidst the terror of losing her precious daughter, Nancy is sure of only two things. Someone has taken her daughter … and when she finds them, there’s going to be hell to pay.
I was very lucky to recieve this book from Netgalley. I am a big fan of Casey Kelleher and have loved all her books and I was not disappointed with this book.............
Nancy has had a rough time in her life and things are growing and developing for her in all areas in her life until one day her worse fear hits her and her daughter gets taken....... so many twists and turn and more family secret's uncovered on every page!
Another brilliant book in this trilogy by Casey Kelleher. A fast paced gritty storyline that keeps you hooked until the very end, I didn’t want to put it down. It has all the twists and turns we have come to expect from Casey’s writing and an explosive ending. My only negative of this book is it had to end!!!! I recommend you read this book, you won’t regret it.
After downloading this book onto my device I went ahead and searched the authors name in the Kindle app in order to locate this particular title to read. To my surprise, I came across half a dozen other Casey Kelleher novels that had been lying there untouched awaiting my curious mind! She has been another of those writers I knew I needed to sample but having a cataclysmic to-be-read monstrosity following me around, she was overlooked. That was until I plunged head-first into this, Kelleher's third and final instalment of the Byrne Family trilogy. Since concluding it a few days ago I have set all her other novels into chronological order and plan to dip into them before the warm temperatures and summer sun slowly fade signalling the impending rustling russet of Autumn.
"The Forgotten" is an action-packed, deeply gritty tale that is based around the abduction of Scarlett Byrne, Nancy Byrne's daughter - will being a member of the notorious Byrne crime family hinder Nancy in the search for her daughter? I loved that this was a hard-hitting and suspenseful story detailing the Byrnes' dealings with the criminal underworld and how those very dealings translate into a very murky past meaning that Nancy is living a dangerous life. Although I feel this worked well as a stand-alone it would definitely be most beneficial in terms of your reading experience to read them in order - you would get the full character development and see the evolution of the family over time.
This is a thriller with wide appeal - it has the customary "bad guys" but also has some likeable characters to get behind. A cast of wholly unlikeable characters in a crime novel doesn't bother me but I hear it so often from friends that they need at east one likeable individual to feel a connection to and get invested in the story. I found that the writing style sucked you in easily and quickly without effort and I was on the edge-of-my-seat pretty frequently throughout this truly thrilling rollercoaster of a read! I cannot wait to go back and enjoy the rest of this series and other previous Kelleher novels and am eager to discover just what is coming next from this talented writer!
Many thanks to Bookouture for an ARC. I was not required to post a review and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
Don't ever rely on the ones you trust the most ...
This book is an absolute gem. I have read it in one go! It was just unputdownable.
From the first page, you are dragged into the story and it feels like you are on a raft in a white water stream. You are not allowed to get off until the bitter end and honestly, you don't want to get off! You simply want to immersed ...
I love it when there are different storylines and, little by little, they come together perfectly.
I have not read the two other parts, but they are defintely added to my list.
Overall, I can say : this is a book that won't be easily forgotten.
Thank you, Casey Kelleher, Bookouture and Netgalley
Can you all hear my heart thumping? Because it is just about to burst right out of me after finishing #TheForgotten! And I can tell you this is one trilogy that I will not be forgetting for a long time!
The Forgotten is a journey into the dark and dangerous underworld of the Byrne family. Following the death of Jimmy Byrne, his daughter Nancy has taken over the reigns and she is determined to show the world that being a woman does not mean that you play soft. Oh, no siree, Nancy Byrne is bad and she is dangerous. Cross her if you dare! In The Forgotten, someone tries to cross her by breaking into her new exclusive club and injuring her best friend Bridget in the process. Nancy is not going to let this lie but unbeknown to her there is trouble brewing elsewhere and when her daughter Scarlett goes missing then a distraught Nancy will stop at nothing to get her back.
I bloody love Nancy Byrne, what a character, hard-faced and cold to the core she is determined to make her own way in the world. Plagued by damaged relationships, family secrets and lies the only chink in her armour is her daughter Scarlett. I probably shouldn't really like Nancy, she makes her living from prostitution and violence but there is something raw about her, something that compels you to root for her all the way through this series. Her relationship with her mother is totally messed up, her brother betrayed her and her father was brutally murdered. She has built a wall around herself and refuses to let anyone through it, Nancy Byrne is not going to let anyone hurt her!
A cast of familiar characters combined with a few new faces provided it's like a snake pit of gangsters who will stop at nothing to protect their own place in this world. The Forgotten is a dark exploration of underworld life. Characters who you should dislike but find yourself drawn to, it feeds that hunger we have for the dark world of gangster life. Does it glamorise it, hell no, yes they might live in a different world of riches than most of us but you wouldn't want to be spending every day looking over your shoulder would you? But it also shows the human side of those who inhabit the world, they have hopes, fears and insecurities.
There are so many things I want to say about this book and the characters but to do so might spoil some of the surprise for you all so I will just mention a couple! Nancy's mother, Colleen and her grandmother, Joannie are still at loggerheads as they compete for the attention of young Scarlett; the underlying feud between the two women is bubbling away and shows no signs of letting up. Michael Byrne is besotted by his great-granddaughter and shows a different side to the womanising man he was before, but can a leopard ever change its spots?
One new face I will mention is Marie Huston, she is a nurse who has become slightly obsessed with one of her patients, Robert Parkes and let's just say that she reminded me a little of Annie Wilkes of Misery! Where does she fit into this storyline, well you are just going to have to read it and see!
As the final chapter of the trilogy, a few old threads are tied up and issues resolved. Which ones, I hear you ask? Well, that would be telling you wouldn't it! But it doesn't give you everything all neatly tied up with a big pink bow! Nope, there are a few shocks, surprises and jaw-dropping moments left to have your head reeling!
Secrets, lies, betrayal, revenge and a whole lot of dysfunctional relationships are tied neatly up into this 300-page perfect package of grit lit and I promise that you will not be disappointed! A brutally honest, raw and realistic novel which will have your heart racing and your jaw dropping! Do yourself a favour and read it! Damn, read the whole trilogy!
this will be on my blog as part of the blog tour
The Forgotten is the last book in the Byrne family trilogy. I highly recommend reading them in order so you get the maximum enjoyment from this book. It has been an absolutely brilliant series so you don't want to miss out on some great reads either.
I had been counting down the days before I could get my hands on this book and catch up with Nancy and her family again. Thankfully they make other family feuds look like silly squabbles compared to theirs.
The part to do with Scarlett going missing, my heart was literally in my mouth. I really wasn't too sure what the outcome of her going missing was going to be and I was dreading turning the pages. My heart was pounding like mad and I wasn't sure if it could take what I thought was going to happen. Thankfully it did though even though the author gives nothing away right up until the last minute making for one of the most tense reading experiences I've ever had.
There are plenty of likeable and not so likeable characters in the story. Some have you swapping your mind in how you feel as at times I had empathy for them and at others I would loved to have given them a good old slap.
The Forgotten is a brilliant finale to what has been a highly entertaining and addictive trilogy. These are not easy reads by any means due to the nature of the story but boy do they make for some adrenaline fuelled and thrilling reading experiences. Absolutely love this authors books and can't wait to see what she has in store for her readers in the future.
Having read the previous two books in the Byrne series, I was so excited that there would be a follow on, The Forgotten was such a highly addictive read, I could not put my kindle down, I loved every minute of it.
Yet another fab page turner of the Byrne family. I absolutely love the way the characters draw you into their adventures with them. I have really enjoyed this trilogy following the ups and downs of all the generations of the Byrne family.
Nancy Bryne is the head of the Bryan family.
Her father was murdered was her brother ,
She has just discovered that she is pregnant with baby Scarlett .
Scarlett is snatched away from her Grandad , can he get Scarlett back home
I recieved the ARC from Bookoutre
Following on from where The Broken left off, The Forgotten is the continuing, and final story of the Byrne family. It can be read as a standalone but I would recommend reading the other books first as you get the full background.
Gritty and fast paced, it is a London based criminal underworld thriller series that I am sad to see the end of.
Highly recommended and easy 5 stars!
