If you like to read books where everything is wonderful then this is certainly not the book for you.
This is the fourth book in the series and if you haven't read the previous ones I do recommend that you do so. The book can be read as a stand-a-lone but in order to fully understand and appreciate the Eddie character you have to have read the other books.
Eddie is a cancerous, headstrong, opinionated individual you come to hate and love at the same time. In each of the books his personality becomes a bit more developed and Eddie gets a better understanding of himself and the people surrounding him. The story in this book is rather dark showing the results of one extreme abusive parent 30 years later. The book starts with chapter 1 "How it began" and chapter 2 "How it ended". During the book you get bits and pieces of the original happenings which causes the devastating results 30 years later with Eddie and co-workers involved.
The scenarios portrayed will definitely stay in your mind after you finished the book.
I liked each book in series but feel this is the best one yet and have to give it a 5 star.
I have the hope that Andrew will continue the series with the more mature Eddie .

This is the fourth in the Eddie Collins series. Again this a rollercoaster of a crime thriller.
Eddie and his team are working on a body when one of his team is killed and Eddie is injured. The body was booty trapped. Eddie will not be stopped until he gets his man.
In this book he still has his unique sense of humour, he still has his dad living with him who still cannot cook. This case has historic abuse, incest, corrupt police and booty trapped bodies.
This is his best case yet. I know when I read one of this series I am going to be thoroughly entertained.
Well done Andrew can't wait for the next in this series.
I would like to thank the author Andrew Barrett, Bloodhound books and Net.galley for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for giving an honest review

Brilliant. This series has easily made it into my top ten favourites. Andrew Barrett has done an amazing job with not only a great group of interesting characters, but a very clever and well thought out plot. I really enjoyed the way this story moved around from the present to events that happened in the past. The main character Eddie Collins is a definite favourite, but I also quite like the Detective Benson and the way they interact between each other.
Eddie Collins might be in charge of his CSI team, however that isn’t going to keep him away from the discovery of a body. Especially if there is something interesting about it. Things however escalate pretty quickly when the body is booby trapped, and three of them are injured quite badly. Eddie isn’t a big fan of being stuck in hospital, and letting someone else run with the investigation, especially after loosing one of his team members. If things aren’t bad enough with more bodies turning up, management seem intent on making life hard for Eddie, and not replacing his staff. Mind you Eddie isn’t doing himself any favours by abusing the media and going against work regulations. So, the race is on to find the killers before anyone else dies. There aren’t enough words to describe just how much I love this book and the other three in the series. Easily worth the 5/5 Star Rating.

This is book four in the Eddie Collins series. I've not read book one or two. However as soon as I finished book three The Hammer Falls I couldn't resist jumping into this one.

I can understand how readers wouldn't like Eddie straight away. He's not the most cheerful of people lol Eddie is very good at his job. He will get results and it doesn't bother him who he upsets.

I found the plot interesting and I pretty much inhaled this story. If you enjoy CSI programmes you will love this story. There is no doubt that if I can get the time I'll be sitting and reading all of this series. It was that good.
