An interesting sideways look at historical Irish figures through obituaries. Due to the age of the early obituaries it also provides a curious glance at changing writing styles and attitudes towards the Irish and some of the more controversial figures. Not a book I would recommend reading cover to cover in one go as it might become a little dry, but good for a dip into one or two chapters whenever the mood strikes.

This is fascinating look at the great and good of Ireland over the last 100 years. Each person included in the book has a well written and crafted obituary. It will allow you to learn about people who you have never heard of and also learn more about those you think you know well.
