Having tried a couple of the recipes since downloading this book, it's definitely going to be a constant one in our house. Toddler really enjoyed them and loved helping out in the kitchen with them Easy to follow recipes and great pictures (I viewed book through Kindle app on PC not my actual Kindle). Looking forward to trying more in the near future.
I've never read any of the author's previous cookbooks. We don't have any kids but we love it. I found this book was packed full of tasty recipes that we will enjoy making. The quick ones look tasty (we do not eat any bland food at our house) and simple.
This book is amazing and a must have for any family. My kids all grew up with Annabel’s baby and toddler meals, however I’ve struggled to find meals that the full family can eat (I’ve got a 10, 8 and 3 year old) over the last few meals.
I can honestly say that I’ll try most of the recipes in this book. I really like the chapter on play dates as I always struggle to not just reach for the oven pizzas.
A well deserved 5 stars and a godsend for my family over the next few years.
I loved Annabel Karmel's books when I first became a mum, so I was very interested in her latest cookbook, "Real Food Kids Will Love". My middle daughter is an aspiring chef, so she was particularly excited in discovering new recipes and ideas.
We really liked the teriyaki tuna recipe - my youngest daughter is a fish-eating vegetarian, so that one worked for the whole family. The meat eaters among us also loved the butter chicken recipe. My only niggle is that I find ebooks difficult to work with as opposed to a hardcopy.
We're always looking for ways to expand our culinary repertoire, and this book was filled with inspiration. It's exactly as the title says - it really is real food kids will love!
With thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC with no obligation to review.
This is the only cookbook you will need when cooking for a family with kids. The recipes are aimed at kids to get them into eating and enjoying healthy and nutritious food. but they are also suitable for the whole family. I am really looking forward to getting stuck in as I have my grandchildren for the school holidays. I worked as a catering manager for over 20 years but I am always looking for new ideas.
I’m familiar with Annabel Karmel’s books. I have 3 children, 2 who are fussy eaters. I found this book to be user friendly and enjoyable to read. I particularly liked the one pot chicken which pleased everyone and left minimal washing up! I love that the book has photographs of the finished meals which gives me something to aspire to.
A fantastic collection of recipes to suit all ages from toddlers to teens. The recipes are easy to follow and use ingredients that do not cost a fortune. Having 7 children it was always hard to think of meals what everyone liked. Not anymore with this fantastic collection of meals from snacks to desert. Not sure I could live without this now. I would highly recommend.
Having weaned both my girls using Annabel's baby and toddler recipes I was really excited to receive an email about her latest book.
Although the book didnt transfer to the Kindle very well, I sat down with my eldest daughter (5) to take a peek. The book is bright, colourful and packed with exciting recipes we are eager to try. Already on the food planner is mini toad in the holes, chicken croquettes, macaroni bake and orange energy balls. I think this book is going to keep us busy through the summer holidays!!
Thanks for allowing me to read and review, I am one happy mummy!
Lovely book with some great recipes for children and adults alike. Recommended to all, especially parents who want to introduce healthy food into their children's diets and teach youngsters cooking skills.
I have used Annabel's books in the past, particularly when weaning my two children and have always loved them. This one is no different, in fact I think it is my favourite so far!
I love that Annabel believes children do not need different meals from their parent's and should be bought up eating a wide and varied diet. The recipes in this book are easy to follow and make. The ingredients are all easy to get hold of and I love the variety she has included.
Sometimes books like this do not go over very well in the Kindle version but this worked perfectly, and the photos were amazing - very mouthwatering!
I have already written my weekly meal plan for next week, featuring many of these recipes and I can't wait to try more of them. Perfect for parents with kids of all ages, I highly recommend this one for families.
I sat and read this with my little girl who is 8 as she is a very keen cook and at every opportunity she will say can I help with cooking dinner or can we bake.
The recipes in here are absolutely delightful and to be honest us adults can enjoy them too!
There maybe foods in here that my children probably wouldn’t eat the way but in the way which the food looks and how vibrant it is they wouldn’t know which is quite a win for us parents when we are trying to give our children their 5 a day.
Beautiful pictures in this book absolutely brilliant ..oh and for dinner tonight we are making the macaroni Bolognese bake, can’t wait 😊
This recipe book is brilliant . I was a bit indifferent when I seen kids in the title but thought give it a try anyway. So glad I did it has some of the amazing recipes in it everything from starters, snacks main course after school snacks and desserts. They all look so easy to make think my first attempt will be the butter chicken curry. But some of the desserts are definitely up there too.
I have a couple of friends who run out of school clubs and looking through the book I think there’s recipes that they could do with the children so going to show them I know the kids will love the desserts?
At last! A cookery book where I recognise, and can easily buy, every single ingredient! I think that is a first for me! The trouble with most cookery books is that you drool over them for a few days, make a few of the recipes, with some strange ingredients that cost a fortune and you will never use again, then ultimately you might have one, or maybe two recipes that you use occasionally, and the recipe book sits on the shelf with the rest of your enormous collection of recipe books, ignored most of the time.
These recipes are both simple and sound delicious, with the added benefit that my grandchildren will actually eat many of the meals without the usual grumbles and time wasting. What more can you ask?. And to say I am thrilled with the book is a given!
I love cookbooks especially as they give me new ideas. This’s beautifully illustrated book is full of easy delicious recipes which will appeal to all age groups .
Butter chicken with yellow rice, tortilla pizzas and raspberry ripple mini cheesecakes are top of my list to try !!
I have planned a cooking day with my grandchildren and these recipes look easy enough for my youngest grandchildren.
I highly recommend this fantastic book . Thank you to the publishers and netgalley for my chance to read this mouthwatering book
Annabel Karmel and her book "Baby & Toddler Meal Planner" saved my life when my baby started weaning, so I was eager to check this new recipe collection. The book is divided in 6 sections: family favourites, meat-free and vegan, 15-minute meals, healthy fast food, lunchbox & snacks and desserts& sweets. Most of the recipes seem quite simple, with ingredients you can find in any super market, and the pictures just look yummy. Instructions are concise and easy to understand, and although there's a good variety I miss more fish recipes. Great idea to include a whole chapter for quick meal solutions and snacks - the family favourites look great, but if I'm honest I'm more likely to try something that won't take hours to prepare. My least favourite section is probably sweets & desserts - I would have loved more sugar-free ideas. All in all the book offers a good selection of easy meals for the whole family to enjoy, can't wait to try the paella!
Annabel Karmel is a bit of a legend these days with her many cookbooks and supermarket meals but it's fair to say when I think of her I do think kids food, not food for me. Well, this book has shown me the error of my assumptions. In this book is a great mix of meat, fish and veggie recipes which not only do I think my little person would try at least 90% of (and she's fussy) but also him indoors as well (he's even fussier). And me, well I'll eat anything but been a working mom the key things are easy, healthy and without ingredients that I have to travel to about thirty shops and markets to gather. And this ticks all the boxes plus (and this is key for me in any cookbook) IT HAS CHEESECAKE. There's a good amount of recipes I'm planning already, none of which will kill my day or break the bank. I'm really looking forward to trying these out.
We just tried the Teriyaki Tuna and Rice for tea and it went down a treat! It was lovely to be able to enjoy an 'adult' meal, and to have my little ones declaring it delicious at the same time. Annabel's instructions are clear and simple, so even a no-hope cook like me can follow them and not make too much of a mess. Will definitely be using this to plan out some weekly menus - a lot better than the school dinner menus I've seen on the school noticeboard!
Although my son is now 9 and eats whatever we eat, there was some great recipes in here I know he would love and would we!
The butter chicken looks divine as does the macaroni bolognaise bake which I know would be a hit with the big and small people! Can’t wait to get cooking this weekend!
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you so much for giving me a sample copy of this book. I have been sitting reading and rereading the recipes and reminiscing. My daughter grew up on food cooked using Annabels recipes. I had a few of Annabels books that were used long after they fell apart. Recipes were shared and enjoyed. I baked umpteen cupcakes and buns with my daughter. She has been baking with me since she was old enough to stand on a chair and stir a spoon in a bowl, while held. The recipes in this current book are wonderfully simple. The one pot chicken dishes are so quick to do and loved by all the family. I am looking forward to showing my daughter some of the simple Chinese dishes. She is 20 now and loves straight forward recipes like these. This is definitely a recipe book for all of the family.
Chances are, if you’re a parent you’ll have heard of Annabel Karmel. She’s the leading children’s cookery author in the UK and has written 43 books, with her first in 1991 (The Complete Baby and Toddler Meal Planner). Annabel is a mum of three and was awarded the MBE in 2006 for her work in child nutrition.
Her new book, Real Food Kids Will Love, is now available to buy and we’ve had the chance to give it a road test. I’m the first to hold my hands up and say that my son (5) is a cliched fussy eater, avoiding his veggies at all costs and not brilliant at trying new things. His sister on the other hand, will pretty much eat anything, so it’s my son who will be chief taste tester!
What’s in the book?
Real Food Kids Will Love is designed for ages from toddler upwards, which is great for us as a family and means that all the recipes are suitable. It’s divided into chapters, but these are aimed at families, with a Lunchbox and Playdate Snacks chapter alongside Holiday Cooking with Kids. It’s also very encouraging to see a Meat-free and Vegan chapter. The recipes are laid out one to a page, with lots of tempting photos throughout. In fact, if you’d picked it up and didn’t know it was a family recipe book, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was the latest from Jamie or Nadiya.
Does it pass the taste test?

The finished result…clearly Masterchef is calling!
I asked my son too choose what he wanted to cook, and he picked out the Meatballs with Orzo recipe (although we did use spaghetti). It’s an easy straightforward recipe and I even persuaded the kids to make the meatballs themselves. The finished result wasn’t too ‘kiddy’ so I would happily tuck in with the kids for my dinner too. They both loved eating it, and I would definitely make it again. Plus you can freeze the leftovers, so it’s perfect for a quick after school dinner.
