This is a brilliant story set just before World War Two. It's a series based on true life. We read of a desperately poor family and their struggle to survive.

A very good read the true story of a family with lots of secrets and told very movingly by the author some great characters who have had hard lives and lived in poor conditions at times life was tough but people pulled together very enjoyable book with strong women at it's heart very enjoyable

What a lovely story about Annie,her family and life in Acton.Annie has a hard life working long hours for little money but she had no choice.As life moves on Annie comes to like Ed and she enjoys their chats but when he gets a bit carried away Annie stops him only to find him walking out with her friend Vera.The years pass and then Annie suffers the loss of her gran who held the family together,her gran gives her a sewing box and while looking through it she comes across a hidden bottom inside which are a letter and a photo of Annie's father.Little did she know how these things would change her life.I can highly recommend this book a fab read.5*

Really enjoyed this book, especially as it was based on a true story. The characters were great and I got really involved in the story. An excellent and well written read.

I so adored this book! It has brilliant main characters, an excellent plot and it kept me engrossed all the way through. I would highly recommend this book.
