I read Jacob's War years ago and was eagerly awaiting the sequel when I heard this was coming. I liked the continuation of AJ and her girlfriend, I am a big fan of them as a couple so it was nice to see them progressing in this book. We also meet a new character named Tag who is a very likable character. Not sure if this books lives up to the first but I would defiantly read this again.

I really struggled getting into this as three characters followed on from the first book and their relationship was already established and didn't need to be explained. I managed 70% of it before feeling like i was playing a losing battle and i just gave up on it in the end.

I’m not a big fan of this one. I just could not seem to get into the story at all. I tried repeatedly but finally I did put it down and could not finish it at all. I am sorry but hopefully if I try another book by this author I will enjoy it.

This was a good read the plot works well even though I didn't read the first book which I'm going to get when I get some money because I like to read about AJ and her girlfriend Katie. The characters are a group of strong people who work together for the greater good. I also love Tag and Grace relationship development.

So, I read this as a stand alone book. I then found out it is actually the second book of an ongoing series.

I'll admit that a few times I had to pause to think. There are some references that I assumed that if I had read book one I wouldn't have needed to pause. I think I must go through life obliviously. People actually do this to other people. Guess you're gonna have to read it to know what I'm talking about but if I told you what's the fun in that.

The book takes along time to get started but once it does it flies. But saying that the team assigned are also in the dark. So you do the journey together.

It really amazes me what actually go's on in our own back yards.

I did NOT read the first book in this series - it isn't necessary. The plot works well as a stand alone story. The characters develop as the plot builds.
A group of strong, intelligent people work together for the greater good, working through their personal problems and issues.

The cgaracters are diverse - gay, straight, redneck, arrogant, thoughtful, compassionate - people you would like to call friends.

Also, the editing and spell check is wonderful - no typos to be found!

This is the first book I have read from this author. I was not aware at the time that it was part of a series. In saying that though I got to check out this authors work and was not disappointed. I will be going to get book 1 from this series and then re-reading this one.

I really enjoyed this book although I haven’t read book 1 in the series. I don’t know AJ and Katie’s story but I like them both in this book and I also love Grace and Tag ( Grace being my favourite) and all other secondary characters. Also loved the storyline. I am looking forward to reading more of this authors work.

I felt kind of bamboozled reading this because I didn't realize it wasn't the first in a series. Which is becoming a common theme for me. So it's totally my fault for not looking it up beforehand, but netgalley also doesn't warn you at all....

Picking up from 'Jacob’s War', AJ and Katie have settled into their relationship and their work lives have continued pretty much from where they left off. AJ is investigating a gruesome murder and Katie is still doing her PR work. When her confidential informant Frog, a 19-year-old former addict, tells her that she has been paid by some cops to go with a group of girls being trafficked, AJ’s investigative focus changes to human trafficking. She gives a phone to Frog so that she can track where she’s going.

If I hadn’t read the first in the series I would have very little understand of AJ, Katie and Grace because what was created then isn’t expanded upon here. A new member is added to the team, Tag (I struggled with the name because I had a dog named Tag – he was a watchdog), and she feels a pull towards Grace. Both Tag and Grace have interesting histories, which were alluded to more than anything else, but their characterisation is so shallow that I found it difficult to care about either of them. And I really wanted to.

With each passing chapter, more and more cardboard characters are added and really, all they did was fill up the pages. The story jumped from scene to scene which can give a story its fast pace or it simply doesn’t give enough information to follow the plot. Unfortunately, it was the latter in this case. Human trafficking can be a completely engrossing story line but it needs to be done well and with sensitivity.

Frog (a CI, not an undercover police officer) is sent off with traffickers who are abducting children to be sold into the sex slave trade. AJ vaguely follows Frog’s gps signal for a few days. She and her team go from meeting to meeting, dinner at each other’s houses, a few follow-ups, some more meetings, and this goes on for a number of days, but there seems to be no urgency to get Frog back or find and retrieve the abducted children.

”She’s nineteen? That’s old for that group even though she looks younger. Most are ten to fifteen. That girl we saw in the diner this morning couldn’t have been over thirteen, and did you see how afraid she looked? Did you find anything on the girl dressed up older that AJ saw at Clint’s place?"

Why are they just sitting around watching, and not for hours but for days on end? I really didn’t get it.

I enjoyed the first installment, 'Jacob’s War', but I had to push myself to finish 'Jacob’s Grace'. I can’t recommend it.

3.25 Stars. This is the sequel to Jacob’s War. I would highly recommend reading Jacob’s War before you read this book. I’m a bit conflicted in my rating for this book. I really liked the characters and the book’s overall feel; but it was a little rough for me in places. I going with better than okay but it’s not as good as Jacob’s War.

After wrapping up her last case dealing with gangs and drugs, Allison Jacob’s finds herself in charge of a new task force tackling human sex trafficking. Captain Tag Becket is finally home after ten years in the Army. She is the newest member of AJ’s task force. Will she be able to adjust to life back home, her new job, and a crush on one of the other task force members?

This book introduces a new main character in Tag. AJ is still the star of the book, but Tag gets some lead character time. As a new character Tag is very easy to like. One of the reasons I enjoyed the first book was how great the group of characters were. Tag was added into the group seamlessly and I enjoyed getting to know her.

You have two romances going on in this book. The continuing romance of AJ and her girlfriend (I’m being vague here in case you have not read the first book) and Tag and her new potential love interest. I enjoyed seeing how AJ and her girlfriend were progressing since I really like them as a couple. The other romance with Tag is pretty slow moving. Again, I really like the pair, but there was not a lot of chemistry or swoon worthy moments. It was more just a newer still getting to know you romance.

This review is based on an ARC copy. We all know that ARC’s are not always finale copies so they can contain errors. I absolutely understand that. However, this book seemed much rougher in places than other Bold Strokes Books ARC’s normally are. There seemed to be more mistakes than usual and the writing was very choppy in places. Other times it would seem like many different subjects were all packed into the same paragraph and it would send my head spinning. It felt almost a little spastic at times and I had trouble always knowing what the author was trying to convey. Luckily, the whole book was not like this but still some parts were tough for me. I really hope this is not what the finale copy will be like and that these issues will be taken care of.

The characters and feel of this series really works for me. In fact I would love to see a third book in the future. I did not enjoy this as much as I hoped, but I feel connected to the characters. If you enjoyed Jacob’s War you will probably like this. Hopefully the issues will be ironed out and the book will be stronger for it.
