I was able to read this novel pretty quickly and with that said it was pretty good. It is told in three different storylines, which I enjoyed. I loved how it all came together and kept me guessing till the very end.
Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!
This book was creepy with multiple storylines coming together into one psychological thriller. The timeline switches back and forth which at times is confusing however, the mystery of the plot was great that kept me guessing to the end.
Omg talk about a roller coaster read wow this book kept me on the edge of my seat threw out I just couldn't put it down this writer keeps you hooked and once your hooked your not letting go I found this book thrilling the characters were fantastic and well thought out and the little clues all the way threw keep you guessing until the end this book stays with you long after you close the book this book is well worth the read I promise you wont be disappointed
This is a remarkable well-written debut from Ronnie Turner. A dark and disturbing psychological thriller that take you into the life of three different people, leading different lives. None of them knows but they have something in common. What could it possibly be? Told in three different perspectives, things can get a bit confusing and baffling when trying to figure out what is really happening. I guess it's done deliberately to keep the surprise and shock in the end. Might work for some, might not for others. It definitely threw me off, though, and had a hard time drawing conclusions. I am way off. I found Miller the most intriguing character but without a doubt, he's creepy and disturbing, as well. Suffice to say, I did enjoy reading it and was satisfied on how everything tied up in the end.
This was an enthralling and dark debut, I really enjoyed the multiple points of view and narrative. The writing was well thought out although I did have to re-read a few pages to fully grasp the narrative. Overall a solid psychological thriller
The past is always watching . . .
Three people, leading very different lives, are about to be brought together – with devastating consequences . . .
John has a perfect life, until the day his daughter goes missing.
Maisie cares for her patients, but hides her own traumatic past.
Miller should be an innocent child, but is obsessed with something he can’t have.
They all have something in common, though none of them know it – and the truth won’t stay hidden for long . . .
What an amazing debut novel, I can see this author still going far in his career. This was a good solid read, gripping and thrilling until the end. Recommended.
What an amazing debut novel. Word of warning though; don’t read late at night as there are some very dark moments. The rollercoaster plot and disturbing characters make this is a read in one go kinda book. Amazing.
After hearing that Ronnie Turner - an established book blogger, had turned her own reading skills into creating her own debut, I was very intrigued to read her book and join the blog tour.
So, the blurb for the book does cover the basics of the story and you get to understand that three different characters, in different situations, finally come together having something in common, that causes a very dramatic ending.
However, I am pleased to say, this doesn't cover half of the story. All three characters have something to offer, be it a large part or small, they all have something that brings the story together towards its gripping final stages.
From the beginning I was a little confused, I have read books before with various characters on each chapter, although it took me a few chapters to get to grips with the various characters and what was going on, this may be because I had a digital copy and I'm more of fan of the books, where you can flick back to re-read if necessary, however as the story continues the intensity grew. It would seem as though the characters themselves were blossoming within the story, bringing the dark emotions of their own characteristics of their own situations and thoughts.
The ending for me was a quite a surprise, I had a guess but with the twists and turns within the story, I doubted my own thoughts, until the final end!
I would defiantly recommend this book, with its dark characters, lots of twists within the story, its one to keep you thinking, even after you have finished reading it!
Told from three different point of views rather than the traditional two, but very easy to keep track of.
This is everything you want in a mystery: twisty, turney, and keeps you enthralled. Really looking forward to more from this author. Definitely on my watch list.
Thanks Netgalley for this arc.
Ronnie where have you been all my life?
How is this book only your debut? I’d have never guessed!
When’s the next book?? Please tell me there’s a next book and it’s not a years wait!
Right, now that that’s off my chest….. this book…. wow! Chillingly gripping and totally addictive, so much so that I finished the whole thing in 24 hours!
The books broken down into chapters which I rather enjoyed, have to say Miller’s chapters were my favourite (I do love a tortured soul)
The book starts on a high and never let’s you go, from page one you’re thrown right into the story.
It’s dark…..
It’s twisting…..
It’ll have you up waaay past your bedtime…..
It’s this year’s must read!!
Any thriller fan needs to have this book either on their kindle or in paper form. It’s a well thought out plot with some things you see coming and then some that whack you up the side of your head!
Highly recommended and sooo worth my 5 golden apples rating!
Find yourself officially stalked Ronnie Turner!!
I’ve been quietly awaiting Ronnie Turner’s debut for quite a while now and Lies Between Us showed she has tonnes of potential with that wicked, twisted mind of hers. Split into alternating chapters, the story follows three main characters and alternating timelines, and it can get confusing at times, I kept finding myself having to go back and re-read chapters as I had misunderstood who was narrating at that point, however Lies Between Us is worth persevering with.
The mystery of this story is it’s beauty, it had me hooked from the start and compelled me to keep reading as I was so desperate to find out what the hell was going on, and what was the connection between all the characters, if any?! Each tragic yet contrasting character gives a different slant and adds something fresh to the story so the narrative does not become repetitive.
John and Jules are married and their life is torn apart when their six year old daughter Bonnie mysteriously disappears. Slowly but surely, John’s mental state starts deteriorating as each day passes and the police fail to make any way in the investigation. There are some uncomfortable scenes of torture that would not be suitable for some readers.
Then there’s Masie who is a nurse in the ICU of a hospital and lives with her boyfriend Ben. Masie is caring for a patient called Tim who is in a coma and she finds herself becoming drawn into the lives of him and his family and begins to feel increasingly concerned about certain occurrences as times passes by. Maisie is also haunted by an event from her past.
Finally, we have Miller, a young boy, and his dark and disturbing chapters are set in the past. Almost a sociopath, Miller is by far the most intriguing character, no matter how chilling is point of view is!
Packed with suspense, Lies Between Us will keep you guessing right to the very end (and possibly even after that too!).
Okay so firstly you gotta be paying attention when you’re reading this book as it’s told from 3 different character and also different timelines! If you don’t pay attention you’ll be lost!
John, Maisie and Miller all lead very different lives yet they all share something in common and I can’t tell you else I’ll spoil the book!!!
It’s a dark and disturbing read to be honest and I couldn’t help but love it. Didn’t lose track (just about lol) and it was a fantastic story, had me hooked and I defo rate it.
This is a brilliant modern thriller. It has lots of twists and turns that you won't see coming. I really enjoyed it.
I had mixed feelings about this book. I spent much of it very intrigued about what was happening to Bonnie and how the main characters tied in together as they seemed very separate and I couldn't see where they would cross over. This became apparent at the end but the twist seemed a bit too clever and left me confused. That disappointed me as I'd enjoyed the book.
This one was just not for me I’m afraid. I normally enjoy a different POV/timeline as it keeps me gripped and interested but for the most part I was just massively confused. The three POVs seemed so totally unrelated that it was disjointed and the story made no sense. I didn’t enjoy the story from John or Millers perspective and so I got to 40% and started skim reading their pages and only read Maisie’s. The end was even more confusing - why had we read these psycho thoughts of Miller all the way through when it happened that Don was the crazy one. I think the author tried too hard to be clever and it didn’t work for me I’m afraid. Thanks to Netgalley, HQ Digital and the author for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Well, this is a twisty old tale! We hear from Miller, Maisie and John and the question throughout it all is #WhereIsBonnie?
Bonnie is John’s daughter and she’s been kidnapped by somebody who is determined to taunt John with it. Maisie is a trauma nurse who has suffered her own share of trauma. She’s now looking after a man who is in a vegetative state. And finally, Miller takes us back to the 80s and 90s when he was a child. These seem like three very distinct and separate storylines for much of the book until those threads start to be pulled together.
Gosh, this is a hard book to write about. I don’t want to give anything away and spoil Ronnie Turner’s really careful plotting that keeps the reader guessing throughout. I did start to get an inkling of the way the characters were linked part way through but that’s all it was, and so the ending was still quite unexpected. Certain things are obvious in hindsight but they weren’t signposted in the story and I think this level of plotting was incredibly well executed.
One thing that really stood out for me was Turner’s writing. It’s quite literary in style and quite beautiful. She has a lovely way with words that I marvelled at and I can see her being able to turn her hand to more than one genre.
Lies Between Us is a dark and disturbing story, one which makes me think I’m glad I don’t know any characters like the ones in the book (well, I hope I don’t!). Some quite unpleasant events take place and it’s unsettling to read at times. Ronnie Turner has a dark place in her mind!
I must admit that I’m still confused about one aspect of the story and, if I didn’t have an e-book version I would be flicking back through the pages to try and work it out. But that doesn’t detract from the fact that this is a complex, clever and intense debut novel and I feel sure that Ronnie Turner will bring us more great stories in the future.
I ran, I walked, I ran, then I walked... I kept to the shades in the lanes... I followed silently hoping to see.... I picked it up and let it go. A love obsessed, a love fatal, I saw some and I left some...
This has been my journey into Ronnie Turner's book. Some words pulled me in so deep, some just frustrated me with its oblique meaning. Lots of pages made me re-read and some just made me give up. I was in dilemma after reading it. I couldn't really make out if I liked it or not. I loved parts of it. I loved the pain of the father when the child was kidnapped. I loved the mystery surrounding it all.
The story was a child Bonnie kidnapped and the story told from three points of view, father in the present, a friend in the past, and a nurse in the future. I loved the maze that Ronnie had created with her debut. I loved her imagery, her byplay of words. Her alternating chapters tried to confuse me and made me want to waver. But I stood steadfast in my guesswork.
I would want to read more of the author's work, her writing has the talent, there was a strange rhythm in her words, which kept my eyes locked to my kindle. But things kept niggling me enough in this book to keep me strictly in the middle.
This is a very complex book and I struggled at points to orient myself in the story, particularly at the start. I found myself constantly guessing and second guessing what was going on and how things would come together. This book is disturbing and definitely not for the faint-hearted. John's chapters are brutally and increasingly desperate and gruesome. Miller's chapters are genuinely creepy and chilling - this is no cliched psycho. The reveals at the end were largely clever, but in some cases felt perhaps a bit 'too clever'. Logically I'm not sure that everything quite stands up to scrutiny although I'm happy to accept this as a failure on my part to properly follow developments. This is certainly an interesting and ambitious debut novel and I would be interested to see what Ronnie Turner does next. Thank you to NetGalley and HQ Digital for the ARC of Lies Between Us.
