I would like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Perfect Girls’ third in the DI Rachel Prince series written by Alison James, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
The body of Phoebe Stiles is found in California and the manner of her death is similar to that of Tiffany Kovak found in San Diego. Because Phoebe is English, DI Rachel Prince is sent to the States as an English presence to assist with investigations. As Rachel is struggling to find the connection the bodies of more young women are being discovered. Rachel’s boss DCI Patten instructs her to return to England but it’s not in Rachel’s nature to leave a case half-finished. She uses her remaining leave to return to the US little knowing that her life is going to be at greater risk than ever before.
‘Perfect Girls’ is a brilliant addition to the DI Rachel Prince series and I was gripped from the start. The plot is cleverly thought-out with twists and turns, loads of action, and a heart-stopping conclusion. The relationship between Rachel and her sergeant Mark Brickall is perfect and hits just the right note. Alison James is a very talented writer and I can wholeheartedly recommend her for her ability to write captivating and enthralling novels.
This is the first Alison James book I have read and although it’s the 3rd instalment in a series I read it as a stand-alone and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a great suspenseful read with some twists in it which kept me wanting to read to find out what happens. I like the relationship she has with her fellow officer and it will be interesting to see if anything could develop between them as he would like in future books. I will definitely look to read the first 2 books in this series now. I thoroughly recommend this one.
Perfect Girls is another brilliant instalment in the Detective Rachel Series. I have now read all three and they seem to get better and better.
Detective Rachel works at the National Crime Agency with a great team of police, military and Civilian personnel, including her partner DS Mark Brickall. This time, a case has come in from L.A. involving a British Women Phoebe Stiles. Her body was found dumped in the back of a department store. So Rachel agrees to goes to L.A. to find out who killed her. But at first, there was nothing she could with the case out there. So she returned to the UK. But things don’t feel right and she ends up taking leave and returning to L.A. at her own expense, to hunt down the killer.
She arrived in the USA to be met by a Rob from Interpol and there is instant attraction. But, Rachel keeps it all business-like. He tells what happened and while they are gathering more intelligence about the murder, another call comes in that another body is found. They realise they have a serial killer on their hands and they all seem to be linked by a flat sharing app call CasaMia. Rachel is determined to find out who the killer is so, much that she got obsessed by the case that she flies to different cities to meet some surly characters to find who the killer is before anyone else gets hurt.
Wow what another brilliant instalment in this gripping series. I love the guts and the determination of the character of Rachel Prince. She doesn’t stop until she gets the killer. I missed the interaction of Brickhall in parts of the book. But, the great twist at the end made up for it.
Thank you Bookoutre and NetGalley for a copy of this book
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Perfect Girls, the third novel to feature DI Rachel Prince of the National Crime Agency.
When the body of soap actress Phoebe Stiles is found rotting in a dumpster Rachel is asked to fly to Los Angeles to assist with family liaison. Her limited role doesn't stop her doing some investigation of her own and what she discovers runs far deeper than anyone imagined because Phoebe is not the only victim.
I thoroughly enjoyed Perfect Girls which is an absorbing read with plenty going on and some unexpected turns. It does, however, require a certain suspension of disbelief as Rachel goes off piste in hard to believe circumstances. The novel has a linear timeline and is mostly told, in the third person, from Rachel's point of view with some short chapters where the killer describes the method and practicalities of killing. For once I loved these interjections which are smart, emotionless and strangely appealing and I came to look forward to what would be revealed next. I'm not quite sure what to make of the plot which is driven by Rachel's behaviour and much of that seems out of keeping with the logical, professional detective she was in the previous novels. Nevertheless it is an absorbing read with few dull moments, albeit the weakest novel in the series so far.
I really like the relationship Rachel has with her deputy DS Mark Brickall. They get the job done but they have a jokey, cheeky interplay which seems entirely natural and makes me smile. As I've said Rachel seems off balance in this novel. She is obsessed with finding Phoebe's killer even if it is beyond her remit and on a different continent. She makes amazing progress at some personal cost but flashing her NCA identity card and getting answers when she's well outside her jurisdiction seems simplistic.
Perfect Girls is a good read which I can recommend.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read and review this book.
Heart pounding with suspenseful twists and turns this was an excellent suspenseful read. Highly recommend
I enjoyed the plot and thought the premise was a great idea. I read as a stand alone as I have not read any of the other Rachel Prince series by Alison James. A satisying read on a Saturday afternoon that kept my interest throughout.
I really enjoyed this book. I am loving on British thrillers lately, I find them hard to put down. While this is the third book, and I sadly have not read the first two, it still reads as a stand alone and the story flows easily, is well written and will keep you interested from beginning to end. I will now have to look for the author's other two books in this series!
#PerfectGirlsDetectiveRachelPrinceBook3 #NetGalley I really enjoyed the first two Rachel Prince books so I was looking forward to this the third in the series. It started off well - as with all Alison James' books, the writing is powerful and fast paced and the story line was gripping and interesting. However, for me, it all went a bit pear shaped when Rachel was taken off the international case but then decided to take 9 days of her leave to race across America at her own expense on the trail of a serial killer. Whilst there was still some gripping action it all seemed a bit far fetched and unrealistic and therefore spoilt it for me. Will it stop me reading the next in this series - no, because the writing is quality and I really like the character of Rachel Prince but this was definitely my least favourite in the series so far.
Book 3 in the Detective Rachel Prince series and it just keep getting better. Rachel is stronger, more stubborn and determined to solve the case. Rachel is one of my favourite characters going around at the moment and it was such a joy to read this book. She is well respected, smart and loyal - what's not to like!
There is a change of scene for this book with Rachel travelling to Hollywood to investigate the murder of an English girl, Phoebe Stiles. She is found dead, her body dumped. Whilst the case is being looked into another body is found - another blonde also dumped. The link seems to be the use of a home sharing app that both the girls have used. Although a suspect is arrested Rachel can't let the case go, even when returning to the UK. She knows that there is more to it and just has to learn the truth, at any cost.
Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased.
Rachel’s back!!!!
Prob my fav Detective in a series, I love her attitude and the way she tackles cases ‘head on’ and never lets anything stop her until the case is solved, shes quirky, determined and not always a follower of rules...
Nothings changed in this book, thankfully, as she works between London and various American states as someone is taking out short sub lets on homes ( think Air BNB ) BUT the original owner is ‘disposed of’.....one of these owners is a UK citizen trying to make it in L.A. ....enter Rachel to investigate.....
Then follows an exciting tense story as Rachel tries, fails, tries again and keeps trying to solve the case.....she is still running for pleasure ( way too much!!! ) and still has men she cant decide to entertain or fight off and once again solves the case in her very individual style
Yep I like her, a lot 😃😃
The author again writes a fast and easy flowing book that was a pkeasure to read and enjoy
Roll on Book 4 😃
( even though its Book 3 can be easily read as a stand alone )
10/10 5 stars
Sometimes a book is good but not great. You enjoy it, but it’s forgettable. That’s how I feel about this book. I haven’t read the other 2 books so maybe I would have understood and liked the characters a bit more if I had done that first. The mystery part was pretty good, just really drawn out. It took me almost a week to finish this book and I feel like mysteries shouldn’t take that long if you’re really hooked by the story. This book just wasn’t one of my favorites. When I think about it, it’s just sort of meh. That’s the only way I can think to describe it.
This series is getting better with each book, it was full of suspense, it was gritty and you didn’t know what was coming next. There was plenty going on to keep me engaged right the way through the book, I actually had a hard time putting it down and read late into the night and finished it in a day as I really enjoyed it. The characters are so likeable in this this series, they work well together but they also have a personal bond which is nice. I highly recommend this book and don’t hesitate in giving it 5 stars, you really don’t want to miss this one it’s one of my favourites so far of 2018!
The third book in the series sees Det Rachel Prince of the NCA being sent to America to help/liase on a case involving the death of a young British girl, Phoebe. The local LAPD want the case closed as quickly as possible and ignoring the fact that they could possibly have a serial killer on the hunt (after Prince links the death of another young girl in similar circumstances), they arrest and charge Phoebe’s boyfriend. Despite Rachel’s protestations, she is sent back to the UK but this case has a hold of her, she cannot let it go, so takes some personal leave and flies back out and between her and Rob McConnell, they take to investigating the case on their own time with the IT help of PD Mike Perez in California.
As Rachel follows the clues, can she find the killer before the body count keeps rising?
Her relationship with DS Brickall is rocky at present and she can’t understand what is going on and why he is being the way he is towards her but she can‘t focus on that right now.
As she nears closer to the truth and the killer, Rachel finds herself in danger and imprisoned? Can someone save her before its too late? You gotta read it to find out.
I thoroughly enjoy the Rachel Prince series, I love that her and Joe are still meeting up although I would have liked to see/hear more about that but that’s the only thing I would change cos I’m nosy…. Ha ha
I will be highly recommending this to my friends, if, like me, you love a good detective book with strong characters and a great story/plot….. READ THIS you won’t regret it.
PS when can we expect #4?
Many thanks to Bookouture, Netgalley and of course Alison James for giving me an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
Phoebe, Tiffany and Melissa are all pretty young blond girls who rent their apartment via CasaMia and turn up dead.
When Phoebe Stiles opens her door to the apartment she is renting, she doesn't realise it's the mistake of her life. While Detective Rachel Prince tries to piece together Phoebe's murder and prevent the body count to grow even bigger, she will have to put herself at risk to catch the faceless individual before he catches her.
This is a gripping page-turner that will have you hooked until the twist at the end. I stayed up late just to be able to finish it. While it was the third novel in the Detective Rachel Prince series it was still fairly easy to follow the main characters even though I didn't read the first two.
I'm not usually a big fan of police procedural novels but this one I found myself on the edge of my seat from start to finish. It was just that good!
WoW......What a Brilliant book..........Did I say Brilliant book! Yeap "Perfect Girls by Alison James" was a excellent read. This is the third book of Detective Rachel Prince and it was just as good as Alison James's first book.
A beautiful young english girl who was trying to make her name in the U.S is murdered and is discovered months later, and is dumped behind the back of a department store. Detective Rachel Prince has been asked assist the Police in California in the murder of the young British national. Then, other young pretty girls are found murdered and they have similarities to the case she is investigating.
Are they related?
Someone has been charged for the murder of the english young girl and Rachel returns back to the UK. Whilst back on Home soil other big case comes in of human trafficking which is involving young Nigerian teenagers and works closely with DS Mark Brickall to solve this.
However, Detective Rachel Prince is unable to let the Murder case in the U.S go as something does not feel right and has asked a couple of her colleagues to keep looking into it and keep her up to date with their findings. Rachel takes some leave for a few weeks and returns to the U.S to investigate the case further.
But, things don't go to plan and becomes in Danger whilst investigating this case.
I found this book gripping and just excellent......Looking forward to the next installment of Detective Rachel Prince
Highly recommend this series of books.
5/5 Read x
I want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for forwarding to me a copy of this book to read, enjoy and review.
Hands down one of the best psychological thrillers I’ve read all year! It was so full of mystery and suspense!! Lots of twists and turns! I loved it!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the third DI Prince book. This one is my favourite so far. Rachel is sent to the U.S. to liaise in the case of a murdered British starlet. Rachel returns home but the conclusion does not sit well with her and she returns at her own expense, on her own time. She does track down the psychopath who is killing "Perfect Girls" but needs to be rescued herself. This is a great series and I look forward to the next book. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.
Another enjoyable Rachel Prince book. I am really beginning to enjoy this series as Rachel is a likable and believable main character and I enjoy both reading about the crimes she solves and her relationships especially with her colleague Mark. I particularly liked this book and how it took you (the reader) across different settings with a race against time at the end. I don't want to say too much to avoid any spoilers but I would certainly recommend. I would probably advise to read the other books in the series first - you don't have to but it would mean that those plot lines are not spoiled. Look forward to the next one.
Rachel Prince is back in this third installment and this time it's a case in America where a young British female has been murdered. This case really gets under Rachel's skin so she takes time off to pursue it.
As always Alison's books are so gripping you forget about everything else around you. My only complaint was not enough about Mark her sidekick! Maybe he should have a romantic spin-off 😊
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
This is the third book in a series about Rachel Price, an English detective who is sent over to America when a young British girls' body is found brutally murdered in California. As more young women's bodies are found murdered in the same manner Rachel is on a race against time to solve the murders, along with the help of Police Detective Mike Perez in CA, Rob Mcconnel in D.C. and her partner in England Det. Mark Brickall. A good police procedural novel with an interesting criminal and lots of suspense.
