Ok I have a real weakness for horse stories and nothing comes so close to hitting my emotional switches. That said, I recognise a lot of horse stories are merely wish fulfilment, which is fine because why not? It’s a harmless piece of escapism. The Fire Stallion is different. There is the interconnecting narrative threads for a start – past meeting present with the MC identifying with long ago warrior maiden. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it done quite like this in a horse story. The story itself is beautiful and enveloping, with a power that mere wish fulfilment stories rarely have. I really loved this one.
