I have no words to describe the thrills experienced with this book. Combining it with the police investigation powers of a RCMP, what more can one want! Recommended.
found this book quite hard to properly get into, it had an interesting story line but the writing didn't grab me.
This book was fast paced. Hard to put down. It flowed well and it was very well written. It caught hold of me and had me hooked from the start . I was literally on the edge of my seat reading this book.
Just couldn’t keep my interest, The style of writing was hard to follow; the story doesn’t seem very original.
I would like to thank NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
I haven't read any of the other books featuring Petra Minx, so a few background details she refers to were lost to me.
The story started with two almost different story lines and it was only about 1/3 of the way in that you began to see how they were connected. These two story lines were very promising and they quickly turned very sinister with a very cult-like vibe in many scenes. Unfortunately, for me, when the connection between the two story lines became clearer I quickly figured out the rest of the story.
The characters felt very "flat" and one dimensional. I couldn't really get a feel for them - I even found myself disliking the "victims" in the story. At times even Petra and Carlo felt "wooden"
A few of the scenarios were a bit unbelievable for me.
Being appointed the "chief bridesmaid" at a wedding of someone you don't know at all, in fact its a wedding you weren't invited to - you are there basically as a plus one of an invited guest. It doesn't make sense.
Then a 5 000 Rand note! No such thing. The largest bank note South Africa has is a 200 Rand note.
A mega-rich widow inviting a perfect stranger onto her yacht and allowing her to handle priceless jewelry also doesn't really make sense to me.
What I did like about this book was the references to South African places and words. The author has done her research on issues like safety in urban areas and truly South African words - robots; kombi's etc. Geographical names and places and animal names were also correctly used.
The whole story line has an element of believability but a couple of things weren't too clear to me and I felt that the ending was a bit rushed and how everything was resolved was not 100% clear.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers, Troubador Publishing, for allowing me the opportunity to read this book.
This book is everything a psychological thriller/mystery should be! The author created characters that are well developed and a plot that moves along quickly! I found myself completely immersed in this one! Highly recommend!
If the reader would like a good, solid story line, an interesting setting and a good sense of adventure, this "tour' through South Africa fills the bill nicely. A well-written enjoyable mystery that was my first for this series. I will likely seek to read more. Particularly enjoyable were the descriptive travel passages which made the reader's interest in the location grow. My only concern as a reader was the shifting back and forth between the two story lines. While the connection did become obvious as the story progressed, the transitions sometimes seemed a bit abrupt. All in all a good read that mystery lovers should enjoy.
