I was grateful to receive a free copy of Lord of Vice in exchange for an honest review. I absolutely loved this book. There was no outrageous drama, with danger and kidnappings, and other over the top drama plots found in so many historical romances.

Instead, Author Erica Ridley built a relationship between Max and Bryony that was refreshing, clever, and very entertaining. I just couldn't get enough of the dialogue between those too.

I only have two regrets. My first regret was I couldn't put the book down, and my second regret was I finished the book.

I would definitely recommend this book, and I can't.wait to read more of Erica Ridley's books.

A good standalone finale to a fine series, this finds the hero and heroine both hiding secrets from society. He's not the devil the world thinks of him and she's no wilting debutante, but is a rather brilliant businesswoman. Only their siblings know their true selves, with an obliviously stubborn and sometimes annoying mother their biggest challenge. Their chance encounter is a bit of a chuckle, and it's when he realizes she's the obstacle standing in the way of his goal that the story heats up, both physically as well as plot wise. The solution to their dilemma is evident half way through the book, and it's fun watching them come to the same conclusion.

The last Grenville finally gets her own story, a rich girl/poor boy tale where for the first half of the book he doesn’t know who she really is. It isn’t until he discovers her true identity that his ego and pride get in the way, but then she isn’t perfect either.
In a series full of incredible women, Bryony is my favorite. She was always funny and irreverent, but never ditzy. Quite the opposite, as she turns out to be a financial genius. Here she gets to be the star and takes full advantage. Even more amazing is Max’s sister, Frances. She sounds like someone who could easily fit into the 21st century.
The male protagonist, someone who’s appeared in most if not all of the previous stories, is fully accepting of such unorthodox female creatures, but still has a bug about titles and aristocracy rather than money.
My least favorite character throughout, the mother, got off way too easily, especially since she’d been through something similar with her opera-singing daughter.
But even though the problems are more creative, they’re still due to miscommunication and jumping to conclusions, as are 99.9% of the situations in this genre. I might have given this the highest score otherwise.
My two faves in this series have been the last two, which is how it should be.

This novel was refreshing as, while it has Lord in the title, it did not have a male protagonist as a member of the aristocracy. The downside is that the male character came with the insecurities of one who does not have it all, the upside is that it was well played out. I enjoyed this novel decently well. It was a bit slow at times, but overall well paced.

What holds this book back from a higher rating is the writing style, I can’t put my finger on it, but I was not a fan of the wording. Due to this, I most likely will not set forth to read the others in the series, although I know I have read at least one other book by this author.

Lord of Vice (Rogues to Riches, #6)
by Erica Ridley

Absolutely Fantastic! Buy Buy Buy Buy Buy ....

This author just gets better every time I read one of her stories. I liked the plot, the pace, the characters. But most of all I adore the way she has a story with romance, passion. One that just hooks the reader from the beginning and then creates this wonderful fun filled journey through out the reading of her stories. If you want a great read for a historical romance, buy this book and do not forget to buy the series. It is worth it! I was given this arc via NetGalley. All opinions expressed here are my own. So buy buy buy buy buy!

I enjoy reading all of Ms. Turkey's stories. But this one was one of her best. I am not great on giving review's. However I would rate this one a 5 star read.

This was a reader copy provided by net galley, opinions are my own.

what a romp this was!

The heroine was feisty, untraditional and daring for her time. In a world where women were expected to marry well, Bryony was planning to do anything but. She had a head for business and numbers that many men could only dream of, she wasn't going to waste away indoors doing needlepoint and bowing to her husbands wants.

Secretly she has building her business portfolio and one of those is causing her all sorts of problems. Max owns the Cloven Hoof, a hell hole for merchants and gentry alike. Byron gowns the land and building and he wants it badly. He doesn't know that a women holds the key.

They meet in his office when she breaks in to look at his books dressed as a boy. Their attraction to each other is instant but Max isn't going to be side tracked by love and desire and Bryony can't reveal who she is without losing the man of her heart.

A light, easy read that isn't sickeningly romantic but full of passion, daring and a very good story.

I absolutely love when Ms. Ridley releases a new book, it keeps my interest from the first page to the End. This book is no exception. If you have never read one of her books, this is a great one to start with. The hero and heroine are both engaging and funny. I would highly recommend this book to be swoon worthy to anyone who love strong and romantic hero’s and women who can stand up to them.

Bryony and Max are a delicious pair. She is a brainy, talented, totally non-Almanacs suitable debutante, and she doesn’t care. Max is tall dark and handsome, and completely smitten with Bryony. If you are looking for a 200 page bonbon on the sofa read, don’t miss Lord of Vice!

I hadnt read any previous books by the author and I noted that this was from a series. It gave you a small back story to the other characters, but I didnt feel that I had missed out by just reading this book. The characters were really well rounded, I loved the interaction between the siblings. The story flowed really well and I throughly enjoyed it. I would now like to read the stories of the other characters. Well worth a read.

I finally have the opportunity to read and review one of Erica Ridley's novels. I have a few pending in my Goodreads list but have not gotten around to it. I see now what I've been missing. The Lord of Vice is a wonderfully, scandalous feminist novel with the courage to rise above the limitations of its time. The heroine disguises herself as a man in order to break into the club of the man who currently occupies the house she owns. What follows is a series of secret meetings where the hero and the heroine work together to make the club lucrative. I loved, loved the heroine. Her determination to be more than just a high society debutant and her courage to fight for the man to whom she can be herself propels the hero to see her as a true partner both in business and in love.

This a novel about two individuals from two different worlds who at the end of the novel manage the impossible: Merge their two worlds into one. Both characters have incredible chemistry and although the sexual heat was more of a simmer, their passion and sacrifice for each other makes this a heart melting story. My heart melted at the end when they gave up their most prized possession to each other.
"This was why he was the perfect man for her. He saw her as an equal. He didn’t just value her ideas and independence. He valued her. He valued the two of them, together."
Just beautiful. Can't wait to read more novels from this author.

I loved this book so much that I read it in one day. Immediately I was sucked right in with the prospect of Bryony's investments and her cunning plots to better her situation. She is not just a woman determined to make her own way in the world, she's created an elaborate plot to make it so.

Bryony is independent, fiercely intelligent, and way ahead of the times. In Maxwell, she finds a man that respects her for all of it.

I fell in love with these characters from the start and didn't want the story to end. I will definitely be picking up more of the Rogues to Riches series.

*3.5 stars*

Enjoyable and entertaining, Lord of Vice was another good book by Erica Ridley.

I had a little bit of trouble in the beginning believing the whole set up. I couldn't picture Bryony having the level of freedom that she did, sneaking around London with ease and without anyone from her house knowing she was missing. I also didn't buy that Max would be cool with her breaking into and chilling in his study. No, not him. I just couldn't see it.

I also thought that the romance was too fast. They were feeling these deep feelings way too quickly. I like a really slow burn where emotions and romance take a long time to develop, so the speed of their romance took me by surprise.

However, once I got past my initial obstacles and made it into the second half of the book, I couldn't put it down. I still don't think this story was very historically feasible, but I was too swept up in the romance to care. The second half of the story was very lovely and totally enjoyable, and I stayed up WAY too late to finish.

Though Lord of Vice started off a little shaky, it ended beautifully. A very nice read in the Rogues to Riches series.

I have enjoyed everything I've read by Erica Ridley. Lord of Vice is no exception.
With a smart man and a spunky heroine the banter is at times hilarious. She's definitely his perfect match.
