When a terrible attack on their royal family make Bel's father the king, Bel finds herself unexpectedly made a Princess. Part of her duty includes being sent off to marry the King of another planet. She is allowed to take her personal guards with her, the captain of whom is Shae... the man she's been in love with for as long as she can remember.
Con is recently widowed. He's the ruler of his world, but he would really rather be an engineer. Bel is bethrothed to him as part of a political alliance.
Bel grapples with court politics, the loss of her personal freedom to fly and fight and her confusion about her growing feelings for Con and her existing feelings for Shae.
The world is impressively detailed and the plot gallops along at a great pace.
This is a fantastic space opera with a touch of politics and a cracking love triangle. I sped through it and enjoyed it immensely. I can't wait to see what Bel gets up to next.
I got an ARC of this book via Netgalley (thank you, Bookouture!). I know the author on social media.
The Queen's Wing is a YA fantasy with the perfect blend of politics, action, mystery and romance. I've been in a bit of a slump lately, but I think this book pulled me out of it. I'm a sucker for action and this book was a wild ride from the start to the very finish. Although this book has similarities with other fantasy novels, Thorne adds twists of her own. She covers as much in one book which most other fantasy writers cover in no less than three novels.
Most of the story takes place in Anthaese, a far off land which is both fascinating and beautiful. The book begins with the majority of the royal family being wiped out, leaving the only remaining distant royals now responsible for the throne. This sets off a series of events including new alliances, strategizing, assassination attempts, bonds and betrayals. Characters are crucial to drive any story forward and that's exactly what Thorne's characters do. Bel, our protagonist is nothing short of kick-ass and doesn't hesitate to take action. The other characters are pretty well developed too. I loved the slow burn romance in this novel more than I expected to.
Thorne weaves together a pretty intriguing fantasy world leaving a lot to explore. Although this would be a pretty good stand alone, I'm looking forward to the next one! Considering how things ended in this one, I really don't know what to expect and I'm stoked. Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an arc!
WOW ........ I loved this book so much I couldn't put its down and now feel sad that I've finished its. This one of the best book I've read in a while. Its really is a wonderfully read has a great mix of sci -fi and fantasy and a lovely slow burn romance between Bel and Con. I've all ready started recommend this book to my friends and I cant wait for next book in the series.
Thank you to Bookouture for the arc of this book, wonderful, it was a wonderful read, held me from the get go, made me laugh, had my heart in my mouth a few times, cried a few times, but what a story!
I can’t wait to see where Con and Bel go after this amazing first book!
I love novels that focus on a monarchy, I’m honestly so obsessed by them and this novel did not let me down!
I love the badass female characters within this novel, especially Bel, I want more of her!!
Thorne’s mixture of monarchy and sci-fi fantasy just wowed me and I can’t wait for this novel to come out in November to get everyone on it!
I can’t not rave about this enough!!
I received this novel from net galley and the publisher. Thank you!
I enjoyed this novel. It has several different themes and is told in first person point of view. The story begins with Bel, whose father is the grandson of the Vairian king. When their mortal enemy, the Gravians, kill their family, Bel and her family become the new king, princes, and princess. To satisfy the Empire, Bel is betrothed to the young, widowed king of Anthaese, Conleith. Bel will do her duty, but she believes herself to be in love with Shae, one of Vairian warriors and now, one of her bodyguards. Bel has to survive assassination attempts and fit into court life. She meets Con, and likes him, but her heart wants Shae. When the Gravians attack Anthaese from within, Con and Bel have to flee and survive until help can arrive. Con and Bel care for each other and over time grows into true love. Bel and Con try to save as many people as they can, with help from native Anthaese who can communicate mentally with Bel and Con. However, time is running out and the Gravians are creating more Mechas to use for their evil purposes. They will need all the help they can get to save Anthaese. I am looking forward to the next novel in the series!
Bel's family is relegated to the last of the royalty because her father married her mother against the courts wishes. She spends her days studying and flying her Wasp flyer over their beautiful planet. When the unthinkable happens and their sworn enemy wipes out the entire royal family, her father becomes the King. Bel now has to step into the arranged marriage of the dead kings daughter on a distant planet. Woefully unprotected, they are attacked by her planets sworn enemies. Ancient beings of the first race that inhabit the planet in stasis, bond with Bel as the future Queen. And they will do everything they can to protect Conleith, the ruler, and her future husband. I could not put this book down. Heart pounding battles, devastating loss, epic conclusion. I loved it! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book from Netgalley.
