A story about finding love after giving up. I loved the romance aspect in the story. It was well written and moving.
Highly recommended for any romance reader.
It's said that two people coming together after a serious tragedy never works. Because the immense feelings aren't always truthful. They mask peoples true feelings because of the fact that they survived. This book proves them wrong.
They also say those feelings drop away in time once the euphoria dies away. Tragic events tend to make us seek out people having similar experiences. And of course the fact that you're just happy to be alive.
This book is a really great book written by three awesome authors. Its a great story. The authors did an awesome job.
I loved it!

I really loved the first half of this, the second less so. The characters were generally well developed and interesting but I just did not care for the shooter gets revenge plot point that was happening throughout. I wish that this was not focused on as the story of the women found recovery and peace with each other was far more interesting.
I was really interested to see what it would be like to read a book written by three established authors - is it easy to identify who wrote what, will their styles meld? I've read and enjoyed Ullrich and Bryant's books, but Cummings is not an author I was familiar with - how would she stack up against two authors I really like?
I started reading the book trying to dissect the writing and ended up forgetting all about the fact that three people were involved in writing it because the story just grabbed me by the ears and dragged me along for the ride.
This is a romantic suspense novel that works extremely well. The start is a bit horrific - a mass shooting at a bridal shop where the two leads are both trying on bridesmaid dresses - but the authors manage to present it in such a way that the gore factor is not over the top but it still hits you hard. They even switch things around where Peyton, an off-duty cop, is the one who needs saving by Tory, the realtor.
The romance is handled quite well - prior to the shooting, the two women meet and flirt a bit, to the point of exchanging numbers so its established that there is a spark and interest from the beginning and the relationship would have likely developed if the day had not gone so terribly wrong. The chemistry between the two works particularly well - fueled by the fact that they both experienced the same life altering event and have been lucky enough to survive and make the most of their lives.
Both women are strong - they each deal with what happened in their own way, but they do deal with it and help one another. The set up could have easily fallen into an angst driven melodrama, but the characters and the storyline didn't go for the easy route and focused on the healing rather than how broken the events could have left them.
The suspense factor worked so much better than I expected. The book is told in three POV's: Peyton's, Tory's and Bradley (the shooter). I normally hate when the killer gets a POV as it is usually cheesy and over the top, but whoever manged Bradley's POV did a fantastic job - inserting a certain level of menace and suspense and also giving a nice twist as he begins to obsess over the two women who managed to escape the shooting.
Overall - a really great romantic suspense that manages both parts of the equation perfectly. This is a book you won't be able to put down.
Definitely recommended.
Wow wow wow this book has been the most amazing thing I have read so far this year. The storyline was engaging and kept me guessing through out the whole book. The 3 authors that wrote this are hands down amazing at what they do. I don’t feel my words can do this book justice, but the words that do come to mind are brilliant, funny, sexy, heartbreaking and page turning. Every time I had to put it down I couldn’t wait to pick it back up
An honest review thanks to NetGalley. This was a very nice read; I was drawn into the story the adrenaline and suspense that the gunman created. The relationship between the two characters did seem a bit fast, even with the life or death situation they were in. Especially because Tory had mentioned commitment issues in the past. Even with the quickness, I enjoyed the love story, what I didn't like was the gunman's point of view. If the gunman's point of view was gone and there was more story between Tory and Peyton, I would have no doubt given this story five stars.
Wow! This book is certainly a different murder/romance book. It is a welcome change from many that I have read.
Against All Odds was a collaboration of three authors - Kris Bryant, Maggie Cummings, and M. Ullrich. I have read books written individually by all three of these authors and have enjoyed them. Although collaborative ventures can be choppy, I found this book to be very smooth. A reader would not know it was written by three different people.
Tory Stevens, a real estate broker, and Peyton Clark, a police officer, find themselves in a bridal boutique trying on dresses. They are attending two different weddings and do not know each other. However, when a sociopath/stalker comes into the boutique to kill everyone present, they are thrust together to survive the deluge of bullets. The murderer escapes and the hunt begins.
I love the story’s plot. It was fresh and exciting. The characters were very well developed and relatable.
I highly recommend this book. Be sure to clear your weekend so you have plenty of time to enjoy Against All Odds. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
Against All Odds was an original Plot. I enjoyed the characters and the mystery. Love story seemed secondary which can be nice sometimes. I recommend this for anyone who likes a little adrenaline and sweet romantic love stories.
Wow this was a amazing read. I like how all three authors combine there writing style to make a great story. It was engaging heart breaking funny sweet had me guessing what going to happen next. Love it I hope these three do another story together.

What a great read. This isn't your typical girl meets girl storyline, it's a romance and thriller all combined into one. The characters were well constructed so it was easy to develop an emotional attachment to them, the storyline had depth and I found I couldn't this book down. Loved it.
This book was incredible. One of the best books I have read. However, I think it would have been best for the book to have a note that would advise readers about the book being a trigger to people that have gone through a similar circumstance. That being said, this book was spectacular!
I am not a big fan of books written in first person, yet this book i snow in my favourite top 5 books of all time. The story has three main characters, Peyton Clarke, an officer, a real estate agent Tory Stevens and the shooter Bradley Richter. You get to experience the point of you of all three characters and it is fascinating, frightening, unbelievable and incredibly intense.
The attraction between Peyton and Tory is instantaneous and doesn't feel forced at all. It is very natural, cute and beautiful. The way they help each other after the traumatic event is inspiring and sweet. Both characters are strong and complex enough that you really enjoy each point of view. Now, it feels a bit wrong to say that the writing from Bradley's point of you was genius, given he is the shooter and a disturbed character, but it was truly amazing writing. It was so well done that it felt almost wrong to be reading those paragraphs. I wonder who of the three authors wrote his parts because it must've taken a lot of time, research and courage.
I couldn't put this book down once I started it. Amazing writing, characters and story.

If you love to read spine chilling crime novels with a romantic theme included, then 'Against All Odds' by Kris Bryant, Maggie Cummings, and M. Ullrich is the book for you. The story is about two women, off duty police officer Peyton Clarke and real estate agent Tory Stevens, who happen to meet in a bridal shop as they are being fitted for bridesmaid dresses. Unfortunately, while they are there, a deranged killer named Bradley Richter enters the shop looking for his ex fiance and kills everyone in the store except Peyton and Tory. I won't go any further in the tale, but I will mention the killer feels that his work is not finished when he later finds out there were survivors.
The book is written in the first person narrative with all three of the main characters telling us what is happening and what they are feeling throughout the novel. Each chapter is told by a different character, and the reader is told which character is speaking at the beginning of the chapter.
I'm not usually a big fan of first person narrative, but the authors did an excellent job with this format. I loved being in the minds of Peyton and Tory, seeing their feelings for each other grow. I will admit there were moments I wanted to yell at them to look out, don't go there, or watch what was happening around them; you know, kind of like yelling at the character in a horror movie to turn on the stupid light when they enter a dark room. Being in the mind of Bradley, the killer was really chilling. I actually felt icky reading those chapters. That's a good thing. It means the authors did their job and made me see him as the insane psychopathic killer he was.
The authors did a fantastic collaboration with this book. It can't be easy to write as a group and make the writing consistent throughout the story, but that is exactly what these ladies did. The flow of the plot and the voice was perfect. The building of the suspense to the climax of the story was spot on. I''m in awe of these authors' skills.
If you love a good crime story/romantic thriller, you won't find a better book than 'Against All Odds'.
I received an ARC from Net Galley and Bold Strokes Books for an honest review.
3 stars. When I read the blurb I expected something deeper. Instead, the book is almost fluffy in tone after the haunting and heartbreaking beginning. The event felt almost trivial to the characters involved. PTSD? Strong women need no trauma! Just shrug it off and fall in love...
Love fixes everything, right? I don't think so... I guess my expectations were wrong? These are after all romance writers. And one of the best too. I just wanted the topic done properly but here it's just a plot device. It's used for a shock effect instead of explored deeply.
And was there any reason for bad guys POV? To grow some tension? The ending was incredibly predictable anyway. How else could it end? This trope has been played out countless times before. They could have written the book about their trauma, the emotional journey, the healing. Instead, it's a sweet love story with a generic baddie in the background.
What it boils down to is that I couldn't get into their romance when such a life-changing event barely impacted them. The incredibly overplayed generic bad guy trope didn't help either.
I picked this book to read because I saw a lot of enthusiastic reviews but true to form, I did not read them thoroughly because I like to be surprised. After the first few paragraphs, it became evident that Against All Odds was a crime/suspense thriller which included some graphic scenes that I was not prepared for. It’s been decades since I read stories like this but I was committed to finishing.
Two women are the only survivors of a store shooting and they each tell their story in first person. The third character is the shooter and he shares his own chilling thoughts, as well. To say that I had a knot in my stomach the whole way through is not an exaggeration. You hear about slow burn romances, this book was a slow burning fuse attached to a firebomb. And somehow, in the midst of this tension filled story, these fine authors also wove in a very tender love story between Tory and Peyton, the two survivors. Very good book.
Entertaining read with an engaging story line and characters that you want to cheer for. Tory Stevens is a successful and personable real estate agent. Peyton Clarke is a focused police officer. Both women are likeable and it appears as though flirtation is potential attraction which may develop into more. They meet at a bridal store and Bradley Richter, an angry rejected man comes in to get revenge on the women that dumped him. He kills everyone but Peyton and Tory. Tory to some extent moves on with her life. Peyton struggles with guilt that she could have done more. Considering there are three authors, the read was smooth.
I don't usually go for a thriller but I am extremely pleased that I gave this one a chance,
Excellent book that was a real page turner, the 3 authors have written a winner here.
it has it all, thrill, story and romance, what more could you ask for
Would I recommend to others......100% yes
Bravo to the 3 authors. Their writing is fabulous and effortlessly. This is a thriller you will not be able to put down. The characters are wonderfully written. I could only hope the 3 authors team up again for another fabulous book.
I received an ARC copy of the book from the Publisher via Netgalley and I am voluntarily leaving my review.
This book was awesome. I have read books by Kris and Megan but Maggie is a new author to me. I have no idea which author wrote which part but this book is the best I have read this year.
This is a story about survival and love. The character developement was excellent. I loved the chemistry from the main characters of Peyton who is a Cop and Tory who is a Realtor (Estate Agent). Bradley is a psychopath and out to get revenge. The story line was well written and executed perfectly. I was hooked to this book from the very beginning through to the end. I look forward to reading many more books by these authors.
I'm highly impressed that three authors contributed to this book. It wasn't disjointed in writing styles at all. The story flowed nicely and was surprisingly sweet considering the darkness that was following the main characters throughout the book.
I didn't give it 5 stars because of a personal taste. I prefer not to hear/be in the perspective of the "bad guy". I find it more terrifying and entertaining to not know where he is, or even who he is. I found the chapters from his point of view boring, because then he's just one dimensional on his need for violence against Tory and Peyton. This may not bother other readers, so it's completely just my tastes in book formatting.
Trying on bridesmaid dresses isn’t the best way to spend their time but police officer Peyton Clarke, and Tory Stevens, who is in real estate, have never met before but both find themselves sharing a instant attraction. Bradley Richter isn’t there to shop. He’s heartbroken believing the people in Angelina’s Bridal Boutique are responsible for his ex deciding to call the wedding off. And he’s sure his sharpshooting skills will insure all in the shop will die. He didn’t count on two surviving. Peyton and Tory. Now the hunt is on and Peyton is determined to find the person who killed 11 innocent people. Very, very good read.
