Five stars!! A beautiful historical romance, this one will keep you absolutely hooked from page one. It's romantic and heartfelt, perfect for any reader looking for sweet historical read.
After the Civil War, Elizabeth and her sister decide to become mail order brides. Elizabeth is to marry a cattle baron. It is not loved, at first sight, in fact, they seem to detest each other. It is a charming story about how they slowly become attracted to each other. I love a good love story and this is one of those.
I absolutely loved it. Just the kind of Historical Western Romance I enjoy so much. It was just the right length, not too short and not too long. It was hard to put it down, so I didn't, read it straight through. The characters were very well defined and realistic. It touches on a lot of things. How women did not have many rights during that time period, the devastation of the Civil War, life on a ranch in Texas and the cattle drive. Kept my interest from beginning to end. Looking forward to Francine's story now.
This was a light, romantic read about a southern woman, after the Civil War, who has lost everything and agrees to be a mail order bride. Elizabeth winds up out west, on a cattle ranch owned by Jeb, a man whose childhood was difficult at best. Jeb's father was an alcoholic who squandered whatever money the family had on booze and gambling. Jeb grew up hungry and is driven to make sure he is successful at his work, and never hungry again. Elizabeth grew up in a wealthy and loving family and after losing her home and several family members, she is determined to make a match with a man who will see her as an equal partner, not his property. The two spar and sparks fly, but this nicely written novel ends predictably after some interesting situations arise. A perfect escape read for this busy time of year.
Not JUST another mail order bride book. The McKinnie family lost more than family during the war between the states. The seven remaining sisters agree to be mail order brides, now that they can no longer exist at their home. Each sister being unique in looks, personality and desires how they want for their future. Elizabeth, the independent woman has agreed move to Seattle to be an equal with her future husband. Undermined by her younger domesticated sister, who takes off to Seattle to trade husbands and locations since she fears Elizabeth won’t be able to handle the cold weather due to her health issues. Elizabeth now has to go to Texas to be the domesticated wife and breeder of son’s for a wealthy cattle rancher. Personalities clash. Each sisters tale is different as each one is. Loved the book. Great series!
4 stars
Love on The Ranch is a sweet, fun and easy historical Christian romance. I really enjoy historical fiction. I typically do not care for romance at all but I really enjoyed this book. I got a big kick out of Elizabeth’s sass, spunk and spirit. I did not care for Jeb at all in the beginning; however, Ciara Knight fleshed him out nicely to become a well-rounded person. I adored the ranch hands, especially Sam!
This book is a solid 4 stars, perfect for a cozy afternoon by the fire. This book is part of a series. I have not read any of those but I certainly intend to now!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. The views given are my own. #LoveOnTheRanch #NetGalley
I enjoyed the setting of this book. Great characters and a happily ever after. I would have liked to have seen more interaction between Jeb and Elizabeth. The ending was pretty abrupt as well.
I received a free copy of Love on the Ranch in exchange for an honest review. This was a quick and easy read. I enjoyed the story, but this has to be the first historical romance that I've ever read without any physical interaction between the characters. Jeb and Elizabeth didn't even kiss. I would still recommend to friends and family with a disclaimer.
Elizabeth McKinnie is forced to become a mail order bride to a growling, handsome Texas rancher, Jeb Clayton. Jeb thinks he’s been duped by Elizabeth and she wants a man who doesn’t treat her like his property. Together they find what they are looking for on a long, tiring cattle drive. Great characters and a sweet, romantic theme make this a delightful, enjoyable book for historical romance lovers.
Love on the Ranch by Ciara Knight is available by Author Collective 20. An egalley of this book was made available by the publisher in exchange for a honest review.
I was see-sawing between rating this 2 and 3 stars, because my usual rule is that I will only post 3-star reviews and above. However, I knew that my review would not be positive enough to promote this book, and I don't want that to affect this author. So I am rating this 2 stars, even though I feel like this author did really well on a lot of aspects of this story. I loved the history behind it, learning about how the civil war affected the women in the south, and it made me want to read about Elizabeth's sisters. I enjoyed Elizabeth's character, Jeb's mother, and the ranch hands. However, the romance in the story fell short for me, so even though I liked the characters and historical backdrop, this book wasn't satisfying. I thought the back and forth banter between Elizabeth and Jeb was funny...for a while. But it went on for far too long, and Jeb really disrespected Elizabeth in his continued regard of her as a manipulative, deceitful woman. Literally the only reason he thought of her so poorly was due to the switch in sisters situation, and with her explanation and subsequent polite behavior, I didn't see why he continued to harp on it. He really bullied Elizabeth and was a frustrating character for me to understand. Even after his history was explained and his moments of kindness towards Elizabeth, he did not, in my eyes, make up for his mistreatment of her for the other 90% of the book. Then at the end when he all of a sudden realizes he cares for her, it was lukewarm. It felt like it was still a business transaction, and I didn't get a sense that they really loved each other. Since this is marketed as a romance, I would have expected more...romance. I will definitely be giving this author another go at some point, but this book was not for me.
This is Elizabeth McKinnie and Jeb Claytons story, 4th in the McKinnie Mail Order Brides Series; a standalone, happily ever after, sweet love story.
This is the story of a woman strong enough to rise to any situation she is confronted with and a man who has been raised not to trust any woman.
This tale is well written, has nice flow, interesting characters, both good and bad; a nice sweet romance. This is the first book I’ve read of this author and look forward to reading more in this series.
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley for my honest opinion.
With their way of life in ruins after the Civil War, Elizabeth and her sisters decide to become mail order brides. Elizabeth is an independent woman who just wants to be an equal partner in her marriage but she finds out that Jeb, her intended is not interested in that. He thinks all women are liars and manipulators. Elizabeth shows him what she is made of in this sweet historical fiction.
This is a Historical Romance. It is a story about a substitute mail order bride and a cattle rancher. Both have scars from their pasts and make them leary of a union between them. Jeb's view of women is shaped by the women his unscrupulous father associated with. Therefore he wants a wife to have his sons. The men in her family were killed by soldiers and one of her sisters was attacked. So she wants to be treated as an equal. This is a great story. It has wonderful characters and an interesting storyline.
