Firstly I have to give thanks to John Murray Press and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I watched the first series of Killing Eve and thoroughly enjoyed it so when I got the opportunity to read one of the books, I jumped at the chance.
Luke Jennings has created two very fabulous characters in Eve and Villanelle, they compliment each other perfectly and entertain the reader throughout. I found this novel to be absorbing and funny, particularly the telling of one of the assassinations. It took me a while to read but that was no fault of the story, it was due to me being unwell halfway through reading.
Another great read. I have watched the series so it was nice to get more freedom for my imagination from reading
I have to say this one hard for me to read I had to put it down half way it’s not easy to read and exciting as the first. I’ve kinda of forgot what’s happening as I read it. I will be watching the third season of show as I find it better
Another wonderful book with Villanelle and Eve. Excellent character development, a page turner. Makes me want more!
A wonderful piece of craziness!
I'm so happy to see Villanelle and Eve back! This novel has a well-balanced mix of action and character detail. The characters themselves were quirky and funny, I loved them both even though I'm pretty sure I shouldn't be rooting for an assassin, ever. Brilliant, fast-paced and clever, the perfect quick read!
Thanks to NetGalley & John Murray Press for sending me this in exchange for an open and honest review.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
The sequel to Codename Villanelle picks up with Eve on the trail of a female serial killer, after identifying a Senior MI5 Officer who is in the pay of the 'twelve'. If you've seen the TV show, this storyline is part of the first series. Split over two books, it could feel like this has been dragged out. We only actually get the name 'Villanelle' more than halfway through this book.
While the TV show has been hailed as a feminist phenomenon, the book leads something to be desired, with some descriptors and interactions written very much with a male gaze. Alongside this the plot is left lacking, with very little actually developing until the very end of the book. So while the book is full of the drama and intrigue you expect from these characters, it does fall somewhat short this time.
While I was aware the first book didn't live up to its adaptation, I enjoyed the it enough to keep going, but after this instalment I'm inclined to call it a day on the series and stick to the TV show.
Similar to the first in the series, this felt like a lot of short stories put together without too much thought to the overarching plot.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC.
Another fast-paced thriller based around these two brilliant characters. The relationship between Eve and Villanelle is superb and makes it another excellent read.
Very enjoyable read. Thanks to Net Galley for an ARC even though it took my ages to read it 🙈
I wanted to read this because I watched Killing Eve. Storyline is a little different but even though I haven’t read the first book - still managed to really get into it. Villanelle has even more depth in the books and we get to really plumb her machinations and mindset. Makes me have even more respect for Jodie Comer in being able to portray that so brilliantly.
Luke Jennings is a gifted writer and brings the world of espionage to life. I think you can read this standalone and still enjoy it even if you don’t know the back story.
Wonderful. I love the tv series, I love this book more.. Villinelle is captivatingly enthralling. A must read.
I love these books - more than the tv series and that's saying something. I am endlessly fascinated by Villanelle and a huge fan now of Luke's writing! This book is punchy and fast-paced and surprisingly different from the series; tenser, somehow. Please say there'll be a book 3.
Absolutely fantastic had me gripped!!! Loved it! Can't wait for more from.this author. Storyline was great, characters were easy to.connect with
Thank you for the advanced copy
Just finished this, having watched the second TV series. I won't divulge the plot of the TV series to avoid spoiling it for anyone who hasn't yet seen it - except to say that there are more significant differences from the book than ever!
This book is faster paced and punchier than the first in the series - the characters roam to a wider range of locations in their game of cat and mouse, and there is (if it's possible!) even more sex (mercifully not replicated in the TV series!) and violence than in the first book.
The book leaves us on a cliffhanger - question is, will there be a third book to answer our questions? We'll have to wait and see...
My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC.
Tomorrow is definitely a day some won’t want to come. This is an utterly incredible read, that will leave your haunted. What a tale!
The cat and mouse story of Villanelle and Eve continues. More excitement, glorious settings and sexiness. I enjoyed this even more than the first book. Looking forward to the next installment when it's released.
Eve Polastri is getting closer to the Twelve and to finding out the identity of the mysterious assassin that she has been tracking down.
Villanelle has more assignments, but will her obsession with Eve get in the way?
I definitely preferred No Tomorrow to the first book - it felt more cohesive, I liked the characters more and found the plot more interesting and engaging.
Eve and Villanelle's relationship is my favourite aspect of the books, but I felt sorry for Niko.
The writing style still isn't one of my favourites and there were a couple of things that bugged me.
Overall this was an enjoyable read.
Having just read the first book in the Villanelle series, I couldn't wait to read this one too and picked it up straight away. Very engaged, action packed and fast paced. Just as you'd expect from a thriller with an assassin as one of the main leads. I still loved the wackiness of Villanelle but I did find that Eve's character was more frustrating in this one, especially with regards to her husband.
Another fast paced quick thriller from Luke Jennings. Equally as messed up as the first book and equally as compelling.
Great read!!!!
Book two in the Killing Eve series, No Tomorrow, picks up where book one left off with plenty of violence, action, mystery and sex.
Told from alternating points of view, we get an insight into what new horrors Villanelle has been up to and where Eve is in her quest to catch the elusive assassin.
Again, as with book one, I thought the writing was well paced and descriptive where needed. As this is a fairly short book (just over 200 pages), it is action packed and full on so you don’t have time to get bored.
Villanelle is of course her monstrous but hilarious self and does not disappoint as the villain.
Eve however frustrated me more in this book. She has no real regard for her husband despite claiming she loves him so much and it felt like the whole husband drama was unnecessary to the plot.
Overall I’m glad I read it and that I can now watch series two of Killing Eve to see what they’ve changed and kept the same.
If you enjoyed the tv series then I think this is worth a read!
3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (rounded up to 4)
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher (John Murray Press) for providing a copy. All opinions are my own and provided willingly.
Better than the first book but still not a fan. The tv series is definitely better. I struggled with the writing style and found the books too short for the level of detail the author constantly goes into
