This book covers some big topics - illness, addiction, crisis. At times I struggled with the pace but overall I enjoyed it
An enjoyable tale of families; the ups, the downs, the resent, the forgiveness, the humour and the love.
Johnny is a Scottish ex-pat in Florida, loving the heat and the freedom accorded by the US state. Back in Scotland he has an ex-wife and a son who struggles with heroin and life in general Things are not going well in Johnny's ice factory and having received a worrying health diagnosis he decides the time has come to mend the relationship with his son. Unfortunately the son, who now has a 9 month old daughter, is not in the same frame of mind.
I found the initial part of the book, set in Florida, a little slow and wondered where it was going to take me. However once Johnny went to Scotland I thoroughly enjoyed the cast of characters, the humour of the situation as well as Johnny's frustration that things were not going as he imagined.
An easy, enjoyable read!
An engaging and compelling read with well-drawn characters. It is centred around a man in crisis - with his failing business, his poor health and his difficult relationship with his son.

A real difficult one for me to rate or review.
There were times I wanted to put the book down and not bother picking it up again.
Then there were other times I raced through the pages, loved the characters and thought it was all pretty fine.
Due to that I'm a bit lost.
Once I got to the end,I think overall it's a favourable impression.
