Before She Falls by Dylan Young is the third book in the Detective Anna Gwynne series. I have enjoyed all three of these books and looking forward to the next instalment of Detective Anna Gwynne and her team. I found this book brilliant and very addictive. Before I knew it, I could hear the birds singing outside and it was time for me to get up. So word of advice don't start to read it before you go to bed - You will not want to put it down.
I loved all the characters and the ending of this book was just brilliant and perfect for this story.

This is part if a series but this book can easily be enjoyed without having read the previous ones. The story was gripping and intriguing, resulting in me wanting to keep reading right until the last page. Since I enjoyed it so much I will be looking forward to reading the rest in the series.
Before She Falls by Dylan Young is book 3 in the Detective Anna Gwynne series, a series that I am really enjoying and look forward to reading the next one. This book did not disappoint and had me gripped til the very end.
Teenagers are killing themselves and their families are distraught and confused. These kids are involved in a suicide game called Black Squid where they are goaded through challenges by a faceless person. is there more to this and what is the connection to the bodies found next to the mental health hospital? Anna and her team will not sleep until they know and they catch the people behind it.
Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased.
Before She Falls is already the third book in a detective series that has quickly become one of my favorites. I have been looking forward to meeting detective Anna Gwynne again, and once again it has been one hell of a ride. This series so far has been a perfect mix of an interesting cold case angle and a disturbing serial killer thriller. Before She Falls doesn't disappoint and brings us more of this mix, more of the serial killer we've been following since book one and a new case that will manage to give you goosebumps. The writing is razorsharp, engaging and will make you fly through the pages as you try to figure out what is going on... And we will see a whole lot more of Hector Shaw as well. Because of the importance of this character in relation to the rest of the plot (and because the previous books are excellent in the first place), it is a MUST to read the books of this series in order. They are well worth your time! It has been interesting to see the main characters evolve over time and I really like Anna Gwynne as a character. The plot in Before She Falls is once again fascinating, disturbing and will definitely make you think about just how far the reach of the internet really is. The way everything connected was very cleverly executed! And there is no doubt the ending will leave you wanting for the next book. If you are looking for a well written, thrilling and dark detective series with an original twist, you should definitely go meet detective Anna Gwynne.
The Detective Anna Gwynne series just keeps delivering and Before She Falls is another excellent edition. This story has everything I could want of a thriller: a creepy serial killer, a clever plot, suspense, plot twists, interesting characters, an original touch... All blended together into a perfect detective thriller smoothie. Before She Falls is creepy, dark and disturbing with a lightning fast pace and a few heartstopping moments; any fan of the genre will be in for a treat with this series is general.
I didn't realise this was part of a series so it took a while to get into the story, but once I did, I really enjoyed it
I received a free e-copy of Before She Falls by Dylan Young from NetGalley for my honest review.
This is the first book I have read by Dylan Young. I didn't realize it was a series until I started reading it. It was a little slow to start but happy I stuck with it.
A gripping crime thriller that will keep you guessing. A teenager (Kimberley) who commits suicide and a town who is devastated by the loss. No one understands why.
It is soon discovered that Kemberley didn't jump. Someone made or convinced Kimberley jump. Detective Anna Gwynne is assigned the case. The hunt for a serial killer. She soon finds out that there are others as well.
I really enjoyed the story and loved the characters. So much that I plan on going back and reading the entire series.
Although not obvious from the cover this is another gripping instalment in the Gwynn series. Fast paced, dark and twisted as always with a return of several characters including the terrifying Hector Shaw this plot races towards a cliffhanger conclusion.
Loved this, could not put it down, Anna Gwynne is still giving it all she has, if this is the first time you are hearing her name then maybe you should start at the beginning, fantastic series, keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Another thrilling book from Dylan Young. In Before She Falls we find out more about Detective inspector Anna Gwynne. Especially to do with her mother which explained a lot about Anna. I really enjoyed this side of the story. The storyline is thrilling and the ending was brilliant. I can't wait for the next Dylan Young book.
I did something I never normally do with this book and that was I read it before I read the previous two in the Anna Gwynne series. This may explain how I felt a bit lost and disinterested when I started this book.
However, it didn’t take long for that feeling to subside once I got into the story and was hooked from then on. Anne Gwynne is a complex character and her relationships with others in the story are fascinating, especially her intriguing rapport with Shaw, a convicted murderer. Because I haven’t read the first two novels in which Shaw features prominently, I am now going to go back and devour these two before Dylan Young writes the next instalment.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this, which I highly recommend.
I loved this book so much that I bought the first two as well. This is perfect for fans of Robert Dugoni. Anna is a complicated character that feels like a friend. The case is intriguing and full of twists. I'm not sure if I like Anna or Shaw more. The characters are just that great. The plot is full of surprises and twists that keep the reader guessing.
I was very eager and excited to start reading this book, after I had read the blurb.
The story flows beautifully and is full of intense moments that make you so eager to continue on. The characters are well written and engaging.
I really could not recommend this book more to anyone,.
Before She Falls by Dylan Young is the third book in the DI Anna Gwynne series. I missed the second but this one is as great as the first in the series.
Inspector Gwynne is in charge of a cold case unit that this time is in charge of finding the ones who are responsible for the apparent suicide of several teenagers among them the daughter of a maximum security prisoner who is a serial killer trying to avenge his daughter.
The story is full of twists and turns involving Anna’s mother who thinks Anna is going to end up in a mental hospital which is ironic since the book partly revolves around a mental hospital.
With a cyclone wrecking havoc the book comes to an end and Anna and her team are now faced with more work as they are now tasked with not only cold cases but also major crimes.
I loved the first book and I love this one. The characters are well thought out and there isn’t a boring moment in the book.
I happily recommend this book to all and thank Bookouture and NetGalley, but most of all Dylan Young for letting me read this ARC in exchange for my unbiased review.
A five star rating without a doubt!
A slow start but once it picked up it was another enjoyable read. The writing is excellent too. Looking forward to the next book.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Before She Falls, the third novel to feature Inspector Anna Gwynne of The South-West Major Crimes Review Task Force, based in Portishead.
When a Welsh teenager’s suicide is linked to a suicide game called the Black Squid Anna and her team are immediately on high alert because serial killer, Hector Shaw blames it for his daughter’s death and his subsequent revenge killing spree. As Hector will only speak to Anna and no other detective she has become the conduit for his secrets, insights and manipulation. When he leads them to another burial site everyone, including him, is surprised when two bodies are discovered.
I thoroughly enjoyed Before She Falls which is an exciting read with plenty of twists and turns. The premise is very sad with already troubled teenagers being coerced into killing themselves - it really doesn’t bear thinking about, not just the nastiness of it but the fact that their struggles were not recognised and helped before it got so far.
The novel is told in linear fashion, mostly from Anna’s point of view but does include others, including a struggling teenager. The hunt for the Black Squid is the meat of the novel but how it all fits together is fairly complex with several facts the team struggle to explain, Hector Shaw’s manipulation and parsimony with information and the difficulty of establishing fact from fiction. I found it a compelling read and not difficult to follow despite these complexities.
The characterisation is evolving as the series progresses. Hector Shaw is reduced from the compelling, malevolent man he was in the preceding novels and in this novel becomes an understandable if not quite sympathetic character. Anna obviously feels the same as their relationship becomes closer. She, on the other hand, is slightly out of sorts as the case brings back unpleasant childhood memories for her. I was unimpressed by this part of the novel, finding it unconvincing and largely irrelevant to the main plot. Despite this Before She Falls is a good read which I have no hesitation in recommending.
I found the start of the book a bit slow but after the first few chapters I was hooked. I especially liked the support that Anna had from Ben in particular as in other books I have seen the main character's personal life be ruined by the demands of the job and it's refreshing to see a different perspective. I especially like the how the book ends with one of the background characters is resolved. I will be looking for more books by the author and I really recommend reading this one. I would like to thank the publishers and netgalley for letting me have the book to review.
I enjoyed this book, I like the main character she is an interesting character, and so are her team.I like the setting having lived in Worcester, and Wales I know where some of the scenes are and can picture them. This was a puzzling tale and as I used to work in a secure hospital as a forensic social worker, I could picture the scene very well.I would say the book was pretty accurate ,no mention of forensic social workers in tribunals though and we do play a big part and in supervision in the community, but I am nitpicking a bit.The story itself and the action was spot on,and although I had an idea about who did what and I was right,I wasn't right about a lot of it, and I enjoyed being duped .the pace of the book was good and I would certainly like to read more in this series.thanks to the publishers and netgalley for an ARC.

I knocked this one off in two sessions of four hours it was that good! Dylan Young is rapidly becoming a fantastic new author on the scene. His characters are great and the storylines are even better. And Hector Shaw, well he is just a piece of work, but you can't help feeling sorry for him, he's only done what a lot of people would love to do if they could!
Detective Anna Gwynne is tasked with finding out why Kimberly Williams, a young woman with everything to live for, committed suicide. It turns out someone was taunting Kimberly, sending her messages that threatened to expose a dark secret. And Kimberly isn’t the only one, other people are getting the same messages. What is so terrible that people are willing to die to keep it secret? It turns out that we all lie, some of us just tell bigger lies than others, as Detective Gwynne well knows
