A good psychological thriller, nice twist in it, highly recommend
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in return for an honest review.
Love You Gone is one of those underrated novels that you wish you could tell more people about. I was captured by this story from the very beginning. I liked that this novel was a quick and easy read, yet I was engaged and entertained the entire time. One aspect of this story that I loved is that you know from the very beginning what happened, yet over the course of the story, Halsall takes you back in time to the events that led up to that particular event. In my opinion, it takes a lot of skill to reveal the ending yet still create an element of suspense that draws you into the novel completely. That is exactly what Halsall did. I will definitely be reading more of her work in the future. Thank you to Netgalley for the free e-copy of this book!
I received a digital arc of #LoveYouGone from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first encounter with this author and it will certainly not be my last! I was drawn in from the very first page and could not put it down! This book explores the difficult topic of domestic abuse and I feel it was done sensitively. My sympathy changed from one person to another by the end of part one. Part two reveals past events that have led up to the present day, and as a reader you get a real sense of why something had to change.
The short chapters made this very easy to read and quick to get through. I found myself thinking "just one more chapter" and then finished it all in one day. I am excited to read more from Rona Halsall in the future.
There are to sides to every marriage...
Before reading this book, I skimmed through the reviews quickly and noticed many of them saying its best to go into this book not knowing anything about it. So, I stopped looking at reviews and went into the book blindly. That was awesome advice because WOAH!
This book has:
*Very detailed writing that brings the characters from the page and into life. Cheers to the author!
*Characters to love, characters to hate
*Quite a unique plot
*MANY twists
*MANY OMG moments
And that is all I am going to say because truly, going into this book blindly will be so rewarding! Get ready for a ride that will keep you up way into the night turning pages and gasping.
Thank you #NetGalley, #Bookouture and the author for my free ARC in exchange for my honest review. I loved it. I give it 5 stars!
The first chapter is very ambiguous but you don't realise it until at least chapter 4. Mel arrives at their holiday rental to discover her husband and children are gone - just vanished with no clue as to where they are but a note saying they've gone for a walk.
When the realisation occurs as to what has happened - that the family is missing - you get the feeling there is something sinister afoot especially when Mel reveals she isn't the biological mother to the police - the feeling that there are many secrets stashed away in this family.
The more you read, the more you realise things weren't perfect between Luke and Mel, but you don't know why.
The story is divided into four parts.
Part I - tells the story in the present. Part 1 allows you to sympathise with Mel - it allows you to see her as the victim, the wronged and you feel sorry for her.
Part II - takes you back two years when Luke met Mel. It sheds more light on Luke's family and the issues lurking there. It also reveals more on Luke and Mel's relationship; personalities and some of the secrets stashed away. Part II changes how you view Mel especially with the events at the end of chapter 19!
Part III - switches back to the present and events unfolding. It is unputdownable with Ted coming into the story as a fuller character and the story races along at breakneck speed.
Part IV - is in effect the big reveal. You finally find out what has happened and unravel all the twists and turns the author has woven.
And then we get the epilogue. I feel sorry for readers who don't read epilogues and prologues, because this one was a whammy!
At about 80% of the way in I thought I knew what was going to happen and how the story was going to end. And I was 80% right! The last few pages threw the other 20% out of the window.
This book deals with such an almost taboo topic that is so rarely discussed never mind written about - its actually the first book I've ever read dealing with this topic.
I've never read a book like this before - twists and turns abound with an ending that is almost perfect.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book.
Wowsers. What a cracking read. A straight 5 star review here. If you love a psychological thriller with a few unpredictable twists and turns. This one is a must read.
Thank you Bookouture and Netgalley for the ARC.
Great read. I started the book thinking the story was going to go in one direction and it zig zagged to another which I personally like in a story. It started in the present day and then flipped to months before to "catch" you up to what was going on. I kept pushing ahead with "Just One More Chapter" because I wanted to see how it all turns out.
Check this one out...

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review. This was a great book, I can’t wait to check out more by Rona Halsall.
I have'nt read anything by this author before but I will definitely look for more. Really enjoyed the story and loved the twists and turns it took. Kept me hooked right til the end.
So I really liked this book. The beginning has you believing one story and then BAM, you get the other side and you don’t quite know what to believe!
The writing was good, I enjoyed the different sides to both Luke & Mel. It is really interesting seeing both sides and how they can both make you believe a story until you hear them together. This was a very interesting book. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.
What a great read! The beginning was a bit simplistic, but the story unfolded into an excellent combination of suspense with a bit of horror thrown in. This was very well written and kept me coming back to it whenever I had a free moment. The story opens with Mel arriving at the vacation home she and her husband had rented for a week long getaway. But when she arrives her husband and their two children are nowhere to be found. Not wanting to spoil this fabulous, engrossing read for anyone, I won't go any further. Very strongly recommend.
I hesitated reading this book, because I had previously struggled with another by this author, but glad I gave it a shot. This one was definitely gribbing, thrilling, and chilling, which of what I love in thrillers. Grabbed me in from page one and I didn’t want to stop until the end,
Will be highly recommending to chapter chatter pub, and using in a challenge
Luke Roberts' life and those of his children are devastated when his wife dies suddenly of a brain aneurysm. Previously estranged from his parents when he joined the military against his family's beliefs, Luke recognizes that he now has no-where else to turn as he spirals into depression. Old rivalries remain between Luke and his cousin Ted, raised as a brother when his own parents were killed in a car accident. Luke finds his parents and his sister held tightly under Ted's control and is also shocked to find out that the family has begun growing and selling marijuana. Initially used to help treat his mother's MS symptoms, Ted is determined to use this to save the "family farm". Luke tries to tamp his frustrations with Ted's constant anger and demeaning words and realizes that he has to move elsewhere. While doing so, he meets Mel, a beautiful, passionate woman who is independent and intelligent and who makes him feel more alive and hopeful than he has since his wife's passing. But Mel's persuasive and persistent in getting Luke to marry her quickly and the problems begin immediately, with her hitting him on their wedding night for the first time. The time that follows is a constant tightrope for Luke and as his children begin to show signs of Mel's abuse, he realizes that something has to change....and quickly. Arranging for the family to have a week away may be just what they need. Luke goes ahead with the children so that Mel can complete a business deal, and when she arrives, far later than intended, the family is no-where to be found. Mel contacts local authorities and as the hours and days tick by, her story begins to unravel. But is it true? A great read on one man's determination to do right by his children and his family at all cost.
Love You Gone had me from the very beginning and I didn't want to stop reading until I found out what actually happened.
Just when I thought I knew what was happening, I didn't. This is one of those books. The ones that tease you, mess with your mind and make you question the characters you've come to care about or even those you dislike because maybe you got it all wrong.
I am having a tough time leaving this review without including spoilers so I'll just say it was a wild ride that I greatly enjoyed.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers and the author for granting my request for an ARC. My thoughts are my own.
Rona Halsall is another author to add to my "favourite" list. This book was gripping from the start to the very last page. I loved it. Highly recommended.
Mel arrives at a holiday cottage having been held up by work commitments, expecting to find her husband & two children there. Instead their belongings are scattered about the cottage & there is a note saying that her family have gone for a hike. It is now dark- surely they should have returned by now? Frantically she tries her husband's phone. After phoning round hostels, pubs, hotels & hospitals she gets in touch with the police.
But things are not as they seem.... I couldn't put this book down. What a ride with surprises right up to the last page- Brilliant!
Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this terrific page turner!
Thanks to Netgalley for my copy.
I enjoyed the first novel by this author and sometimes struggle with an author's second book but this one was even better. Halsall writes a very convincing tale of family woes and the difficulty of step-parenting. The emotional turmoil felt by both the father Luke and children and the step-mother Mel who professes to love them as if they were her own was very realistic.
Mel arrives at the rented holiday cottage to find her husband and two children missing. The ensuing investigation paints a very different picture of the marital bliss that Mel is portraying.
This novel is fast paced full of believable twists that had me hooked.
Having read Rona Halsall’s previous book “Keep You Safe” I couldn’t wait to read “Love You Gone”.
Mel arrives at the family’s rented cottage for their holiday in the Lake district expecting to find the heating on and her husband and children waiting for her. Instead the the house is empty and a note says they are gone for a hike but when they still haven’t returned a few hours later Mel contacts the local mountain rescue team and the police get involved.
Where have they gone? Are they in danger? These are just a few of the questions Mel needs to find the answers to and thus begins a journey that will have you going round in circles and twists that will have your head spinning and an excellent conclusion. “Love you Gone” is everything a psychological thriller should be!
Thank you very much to NetGalley Rona Hallsall and Bookouture for the ARC my review is honest and unbiased in any way.
Love you Gone by Rona Halsall
WOW! That’s my review of this book. It is SO SO SO good! I know I am using lots of exclamation points but I mean it emphatically-WOW! I am just…dang, I can even think of a word to describe how I feel after reading this book y’all! It was completely different book than what I had expected from the blurb. It ran me through wave after wave of emotions and there were so many twists, my brain was like, “whoa!” I hate the phrase, “gripping psychological thriller” but that is exactly what this was.
Halsall did a brilliant job with this one. Absolutely brilliant. I can’t say enough god about this book. I don’t often say that a book is a MUST READ but this one is. Even if you don’t care for this genre, you will be puled in and held tight page after page. I couldn’t read fast enough to get to the end and see how everything turned out and what actually happened.
You know from the blurb that Mel and her family are supposed to a cabin/cottage for some much needed family time. Mel is running late because of work and when she arrives, she finds a note that her husband Luke, and their two sons have gone for a walk, but they don’t return. If I tell you anything else, I’ll spoil it for you except to say this: It is told from different POV and over different time periods.
This is an amazing work of psychological thriller and family drama. A fantastic read with a great plotline, pace, believable characters, and it is ver well written. Kudos to Rona for this fantastic book! 5/5

#LoveYouGone is a tale of a family disappearing, leaving the mother scared and desperate to find them; however things aren’t as they originally seem and the true family dynamics are revealed as the police investigate.
I enjoyed the story, it kept me guessing until the very end.
Thank you #NetGalley and the publisher for my free advance copy in return for an unbiased review.
