Amazing book. Loved it from beginning to end.
Well written which kept me captivated throughout.
I will definitely be reading other books by this author
Twisty thriller told from one perspective then another. Just when you think you know what is real, the author changes up the narrative and the story becomes very real. How do you protect your family from the threats of another? A tough and often undertold story of families who find themselves with impossible options.
Well, let my start by saying that this story is an absolute gem! I loved it. It's one of those books with the built-in invisible hand that comes out as soon as you open it to grab you by the collar and drag you in.
The author lets the two main characters do the talking. It starts in the present and you are taken back into the past and slowly brought back to this day.
The first part paints a certain picture, but is it the correct one? Who is fooling us and who tells the truth?
The storyline, the writing style and the characters were all superb.
Thank you, Rona Halsall, Bookouture and Netgalley.
Nicely done thriller! It's the story of a marriage and lives filled with lives. Mel and Luke both tell their sides of what's going on. You start with Mel finding her family missing and having to confess some things to the police. Then you get Luke's POV. As is so often the case with this type of novel- hard to review without spoilers. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. This one is a page turner with characters you'll waver about.
Great story started with a bang and finished with a twist in the tale. There's abuse, drugs, violence and murder along the way - the big question is who does what? It serves as a cautionary tale to those entering new relationships......... How well do you really know the other person? The book raced along with new surprises all the way through! The one thing I would say is that there were several references to some mystery in Mels past but despite the hints along the way we were never enlightened to the whole story. Great read, quite short too so could easily be finished in one day on holiday!
Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this ARC.
This is a brilliant book which will drag you in and won’t let go!
Mel has only been married to Luke for a short while and is shocked when she arrives at the holiday cottage to find that Luke and the children have disappeared.
Mel calls the mountain rescue team and a search ensues.
We then leave this part of the story to learn about Mel and Luke’s life before the holiday, and I must say, it’s an eye opener.
I can’t say too much about what is revealed as I wouldn’t want to spoil it for you but I can say, there’s more to both of them than meets the eye.
I loved the build up towards the end of the book and was desperate for one of the characters to find a way out.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
I just loved this this book.........I found "Love You Gone by Rona Halsall" So gripping I was totally gripped from the first few pages. There were so many twists and turns, then just when you thought you knew what was happening.......Bang!!! It changes again. This book took domestic violence within a family to a different level. It also shows you how wrong you could be about someone.
A must read and a great for holidays.
Just a Brilliant read. xx
5 star review.
Many thanks to Rona Halsall, Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC of "Love You Gone" in return for an honest review.
My first book by this author. How I’ve not read her previous book, Keep You Safe, is beyond me! This book was great and I was genuinely disappointed when I finished it. It’s a story about a woman who is off on holiday to The Lakes to meet up with her husband and his two children. When she gets there, it’s late but she finds the cottage they’ve rented empty apart from a note to say they’ve gone out for a hike. But they don’t come back….
This is a really difficult book to review without giving away too much. The story is told in several parts, from different character’s perspectives and also from different timeframes. It is mainly set in present time, but it also switches back to when Luke first meets Mel. The switches between timeframes aren’t at all confusing and it’s great to get some understanding on what brought them together.
I won’t go into what I like or dislike about any of the characters as I think it would just give the story away before you even get chance to read it. What I will tell you is that my emotions swapped and changed throughout this book, ranging from empathy to sadness to shock and disbelief! The storyline line is so completely unbelievable in some parts, but then in others you can so see that really happening! The plot twists and turns so fast, changing from one chapter to the other, that it made me feel dizzy! And the ending…..well, what can I say! In a strange way, I really should have expected it, but truthfully I just really didn’t!
This has to be one of the weirdest reviews I’ve written! I’d love to be able to tell you why I think all of the above, but trust me you really need to read this book to find out for yourself. Grab yourself a blanket, turn off the phone and settle down for a fantastic psychological thriller that will set your nerves on edge! Highly recommended.
This psychological thriller explores themes of spousal abuse from the abused husbands persepective. I did not find any of the character particularly likable, all were flawed in some way. A quick read and well thought out plot.
This is a book that you will find hard to put down. Mel plans to meet her husband and stepchildren at a cabin in the woods but when she arrives they aren’t there. At first she thinks they are out in the woods and will be back shortly, but as time passes she fears they aren’t coming back. They’ve just disappeared. Mel
contacts the police and is questioned with her possible involvement. What happened to them and what kind of person is Mel?
This book explodes with twists and turns and the ending was not what I expected.
Who would believe you? All Luke wanted was to be happy after his wife died but he got more than he bargained for when he remarried. His new wife Mel is what he thought that his children needed but as time goes on Luke realises that he made a mistake. Luke knows he has to get away but Mel knows his secret and he has no choice but to stay for now. Will he be strong enough to fight for his family before Mel destroys it all? Mel wants her perfect family and she will do whatever it takes to keep them. There will be consequences if Luke tries anything..Who will believe Luke anyway about his home life?
An excellent read. Kept me turning the pages to see what was coming next. I was lucky enough to receive a copy via Netgalley & the publishing house in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you Bookouture and Net Galley for an early release of Love You Gone. I could Not put this book down, where is her family?? Sad when the truth comes out But Spellbinding trying to figure it out! Another Great book by Rona Halsall, Thank you.
Twists and turns and just when you thought you knew what was happening....it changes again. I got this book through NetGalley for an honest review. The book is coming out on Nov 15, so put it on your list.
Mel comes home to find her husband and two children gone. They left a note "gone for a walk" but then they never return. The police are called and what seems like an innocent scene gone wrong, the more you read the more you find out what you thought was happening isnt so.
You start feeling sorry for the wife until you're presented with a whole different scenario. Who is the victim here? This is a book you cant put down because you are not really sure how it is going to end.
I really enjoyed reading Love You Gone by Rona Halsall. I received this book from Bookouture and NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review.
The story is about Mel and Luke and their disastrous marriage and all the consequences resulting from this ill advised marriage. Without going into too much detail, Luke marries Mel after a very short period of knowing her and he and his two kids fall victims to her bad temper.
The book is extremely fast paced and keeps your interest going at all times. You get very involved with the characters and I believe you will be totally surprised by the ending. I certainly were!
I will definitely recommend this book and keep reading more from this author. A solid 4 star rating.
Another POV tale told from different sides and quite an easy read, didn’t take me long to read it. Quite a twisty read with a big old twist at the end. Enjoyed this!
After reading rave reviews of Love you gone I really thought I was in for a treat and had high hopes going in. Have you ever read a book with great anticipation only to be disappointed? The only thing going for the book was the fast pace. It’s the fastest book I have read in recent times. Around six hours, more or less. Here’s the plotline:
Luke is a widower with two kids. He is at loss for living his life after the death of his wife. He is estranged from his parents and haven’t a clue how to bring up his children.
Mel is in her late thirties and a successful business woman. But she desperately wants a child. So when Luke comes in her life she sees the perfect opportunity to step into the role of a mum as well as try to have a child of her own.
After a series of problems they decide to go on a holiday to sort things with each other only to find Luke and the kids missing, once Mel arrives. What happened to them? How can they just disappear?

I really enjoyed this book and raced through it. The first chapter gave me a horrible sense of foreboding – and then the author proceeded to plunge me into a crisis of not knowing who to believe! Mel finds herself in a nightmare situation when she arrives at their holiday cottage to find her husband, Luke, and two children have disappeared. Gradually we get to understand more of their story as first the police get involved, and then the author takes us back two years to the lead-up to the current events. This is an easy to read story that certainly kept me hooked. It’s difficult to say much more without giving anything away. I will say, however, that the author cleverly manipulated my loyalties; I first felt admiration and pity for one character, before swinging completely, changing allegiance to the other.
Another great author to add to my list! I was immediately hooked, twisty and mysterious, I loved it.
Love You Gone - this is undoubtedly a masterpiece of clever, intricate story-building. You might think you know exactly where the story is going, then out of nowhere comes the next twist. Unexpected turns of event, characters that have you gripped with their next. actions, children that you suddenly start to care about! Every fine detail matters in this exhilarating ride to the end. In parts I felt so angry that my kindle was nearly thrown across the room - not many books make me feel that engaged with the story, but this one is a killer for luring you in further and further.
For me this is a direct competitor for one of Stephen King's masterpieces, Rose Madder, and definitely would appeal to fans of Gone Girl,The Girl on the Train and other twisted suspense novels centred on emotions.
My full review will be on my blog by release day. Thank you for the advance review copy.
This is about Mel who's family goes missing. The question is "what happened to them?". This is a very intriguing story and is a real page turner. I was hooked from page one. I like all the turns and twists in the plot. I like that we get to hear the story from the point of view of both Mel and her Husband. This way you know both sides of the story.
