Owen is a second chance at love story, with the title character leaving town suddenly and without explanation.
Overall, this is a good read.
Thank you for letting me read this book, NetGalley.
I wasn't fond of this story so I will not be leaving a review. I am a fan of Melody Anne but I couldn't get into the book.
Eden and Owen grew up side by side since childhood. Fell in love, and made promises to each other to always be together. Then he vanished without so much as a goodbye. Eden was heartbroken and went thru an extremely difficult time in her life. Now all she had was her father and best friend. Ten years later when Owen returns to Edmonds, Eden doesn’t want anything to do with him, but Owen keeps trying to see her and talk to her.
Owen has never stopped loving Eden. He wants to tell her why he had to leave so quickly ten years ago. Will she understand and forgive him. Working in the fire department, Owen is all of a sudden extremely busy with an arsonist on the loose. The thing he doesn’t understand is why are he and Eden are being targeted. First her house is burnt down, now his. What is going on?! How is Owen going to convince Eden that he wants her forever, when he is being investigated for arson.
As with any book that Melody Anne writes, this book was fabulous! I highly recommend it.
Melody Anne books are what I call my easy read go to books. Nothing too major or heavy, just usually a good story and good characters. Owen is part of a series that follows typical teenage romance, separated by events and brought back together years down the road. Sometimes felt like there was a bit too much thrown in to the story that didn't get fully explored (deaths)- but I can be a book snob. If you add some side elements to a story I want to know more about them, not just a quick glance at it and move on. But that's me. Overall good story and writing.
Owen is an amazing second chance romance. I love that with the Undercover Billionaire series we get normal guys. Owen is a firefighter and has some secrets he's keeping from his former girl friend Eden. Eden has a lot of trust issues. You really get why as the story unfolds. You feel for her as she continues to fight and give in just to fight her attraction to Owen. As former flames you can still feel the heat coming off these two. I love the sparks and how they work together to solve the mystery behind the fires in the town. Just wait for all the secrets to come out and find out who is behind everything. This book will take you on a ride that you will love. I can't wait for more to come for the Forbes men.
I want to start out positively with the storyline being intriguing, very angsty and please stop the psycho now, edge of my seat read. Great potential!!
I love billionare heroes, the Forbes men are caring, rather regular guys who look out for their families and community. Owen, however, needed a bit more redemption for just up and leaving 10 freaking years ago, not telling anyone! That's a hard one for me to get over, unless he was dead or dying. His explanation wasn't very realistic, or it was missing some key components, but at least he didn't repeat himself.
I just could not get into Eden. I get that she felt betrayed, that everyone left her, but I don't think it needed reiterating every chapter. I felt she seemed spoiled, bratty, and super indecisive, taking away from the reality of someone wanting them dead.
I do wish there would have been more thought and realism to the dangers lurking.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but the sex for me, just got in the way and muddled things, rather like a B grade movie.
I do look forward to reading the next in this series. Each book has it's own HEA, but there is a connection I am most anxious to find out about.
I received an ARC thru Net Galley/Montlake and am giving my honest review.
This was a great addition to this series with this second chance love story for Owen and Eden. While this was an emotional read with many suspenseful moments making this a hard book to put down. I would recommend this book to others.
I had a hard time following this book. I think it is because I haven't read the other books in this series. Owen and Eden have a history and have been apart for a decade. He left her and she never understood why. The book opens with Eden showing up at Owen's door for a booty call after a decade of not seeing him. They have sex and she leaves without getting any answers and then the books skips ahead six months. Suddenly Eden is investigating a series of fires where arson is expected (although the book never explains what qualifications she has to do this) and Owen is a suspect. I really liked the characters but there were too many plot holes to really enjoy the book. I do think it might be better if you've read the other books in the series.
The only thing I really liked about this book was the mystery aspect. Otherwise it really didn't do it for me and I really enjoy second chance romance books.
I absolutely loved this book it was intriguing and suspenseful and a fabulous read and I recommend giving it a try
There is so much emotion flowing through this book. It has all the feels, so much grief, regrets, forgiveness and love to name a few. Lots of angst along with suspense. Owen is a fireman. He’s sexy and alpha. Eden is so heartbroken. She’s lost so many people in her life. She’s a fighter though. When you get to the end, after the acknowledgements read the Author’s Note. It’s is so touching it brought close to tears.
I received an advance review copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Melody Anne has always been one of those “one-click” writers for me. Not only can I expect a great romance, the books are written with great storytelling that you draws you into the characters lives from the beginning. Owen is no different. After leaving town and his one true love, Owen is back and still wants Eden. Eden tells herself that her love and attraction to Owen is not there anymore, but she knows deep down she is lying to herself. When Eden begins to investigate the fires started by an arsonist, everything pinpoints to Owen, she knows he couldn’t have done this to the town he so desperately loves. As things heat up, it’s up to Owen and Eden to catch the real arsonist before more lives are lost.
So I have mixed feelings about book. On one hand, the suspense plot really kept me going. I was itching to know why someone was setting fires. On the other hand, I had really couldn't warm up to the MC's. I felt like Eden's character kept repeating over and over and over how she had abandonment issues. I get it, I got it the first 10 times I read it. I got it. I get where her character is coming from... I didn't need to be constantly told. It got to the point I was skipping over the Eden parts because they were so repetitive. Eden had all these abandonment issues but yet she kept wanting to fall into bed with Owen...UGH! That's not a strong MC in my opinion. That is a weak person who can't make up her mind. Eden in my opinion was just more messed up than broken if that makes sense. I didn't feel sorry for her, I felt angry at her.
Owen wasn't much better. The reason he left, ah...nope. I needed it to be better and to stay away for 10 years...I needed it to be better. That was not a good enough reason for me. If I was Eden, I would kick him to the curb. To leave and say nothing for the reasons in the book....I just shook my head and said, "that's it? eh, nope."
So now, I have little to no respect for either of the MCs. Eden keeps running off repeating the same dialog "everyone leaves me" and, Owen "I love you I will never leave you again" and then we have the maniac setting the fires. I loved the maniac setting the fires to be honest. I hate to say that because I have enjoyed Ms. Anne's books in the past. But, this one just rubbed me the wrong way. Ok, Eden mostly, Eden A LOT. I liked the mystery plot, just didn't like the romance.
Will I keep reading? Not sure. Declan could prove interesting and the mystery plot hasn't been resolved. and I am intrigued by the mystery. But, if the heroine in the next book is anything like Eden, I can't do it. I need truly strong heroines, not ones that say they are strong...in a whiny voice, while tearing up, hanging on to a man. I guess I will just have to read the blurb when the next book comes out and make my decision then.
Eden and Owen were teenage sweethearts but then he up and left without saying a word. Ten years later he is back and a firefighter and wants nothing more than to get Eden back. Someone is setting fires and Eden is investigating them, Owen is on top of her list. But no matter how bad he hurt her, she doesn’t think he’s the arsonist. Now Eden has been targeted too and as the flames in town burn out of control so do the flames they set when together. Eden is still hurt and has abandonment issues but as she’s pushing him away with one hand, she’s pulling him in with the other. When Eden gets caught by the arsonist, Owen will do anything to save the only woman he has loved.
This is an action and second chance at love story. With smoking hot sex. A woman who has a hard time forgiving and a man not willing to give up on her. Eden bothered me until the very end. She kept see sawing back and forth between wanting Owen but only for sex.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for Netgalley *
Sexy, romantic, emotional, interesting and well written this was a perfect book to read for a bit of pure escapism. I am loving this series by Melody Anne and cannot wait for the next one.
Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to review in exchange for an honest and independent review.
4.5 stars
There was a time when Eden’s entire world revolved around Owen Forbes. They were inseparable childhood sweethearts. They planned a life together. Then, without so much as a goodbye, Owen vanished. Now, after ten years, he’s returned to town as the hottest new firefighter on the force. Whatever secrets pulled them apart, Eden can’t fight the sparks reignited by the man who broke her heart. When I started reading I couldn't put it down. Melody Anne is magnifysent and amazing writer.I cannot wait to read more of there books.Keep up the great work. You should definitely read this book. Can't wait for the next book.
Ms Anne has perfected her method in keeping a series alive and fresh...create an emotional attachment to the current story’s characters early on in the series. Owen and Eden’s story grabbed interest and pulled me in immediately, not only because of having already been introduced to their characters earlier in the series, but because their second chance story had the perfect mixture of angst, romance, suspense, and humor to draw me through the story quickly and easily.
There were a few times that Eden’s thoughts, emotions, and actions were confusing, but those confusions were eventually eliminated later in the story. I especially enjoyed how the author set the stage for Declan’s story...I wouldn’t call it a cliffhanger per se, she whet my appetite by giving a glimpse of what is to come through the workings of a madman’s mind.
This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
This was definitely not one of my favorite Melody Anne books. In this series, I thoroughly enjoyed "Arden" but this one with Owen and Eden was disappointing. The relationship didn't click and seemed forced. I couldn't see how Eden was so quick to jump back into a relationship with Owen. He wasn't able to give a solid reason for leaving without any notice. Overall, this story just felt off.
I received an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I have to admit, I had a hard time getting through this book because - from the beginning - it kept skipping ahead in the time line and was hard to keep track of. The two protagonists seemed to only have a lust connection ( to me) and not much more, so it wasn't exactly the feel good romance I was expecting.

"Owen" was a book of second chance love. It was a tale so full of emotions and suspence! I really enjoyed it!!
