This was a well written story and in the book I followed the main characters through her trials and tribulations following a startling revelation.
The plot was a bit predictable but that did not detract from my enjoyment and I enjoyed the minor plotlines that ran through the book too.
It flowed very well and was an easy story to read.
The characters were well developed and I enjoyed their interaction too.
4 stars from me for this one, I really enjoyed it!
Something to tell you follows the Mortimer family as they navigate their way through some pretty tricky times which threaten the well established family dynamic.
The story begins with Frankie stumbling in to a golden wedding celebration in search of her father. This revelation sends shockwaves through the tight knit family.
The story focuses on the women and their experiences, exploring themes of family, loneliness, reinvention and relationships.
I am a long time Lucy Diamond fan and this book did not disappoint. I find Lucy’s books entertaining and easy to read while still having some good thinking points.
Having read all of Lucy’s books to date I did find myself predicting some of the storylines but this did not distract from my enjoyment or the feeling of escapism while losing myself in the intricate family dramas.
Thanks net galley for this advanced copy!
Something To Tell You is another gem of a novel by Lucy Diamond. When I pick up one of her novels, I know I’m in for a cosy, warm-heated story that will have me turning the pages to see how things end up for the always-relatable characters, and this was no exception.
Frankie never knew her father, but when she finds a letter her mother wrote to her before she died, Frankie finds out his identity, too. Determined to find her father, Harry Mortimer, she unexpectedly interrupts his golden wedding anniversary, and by extension, everything the Mortimer family thought they knew about each other.
As Frankie gets to know her new family, it turns out each member of the family has “something to tell” the other, and Frankie’s revelation is just the start of a series of ups and downs for the Mortimer clan...
Something To Tell You delves into the intricacies of day-to-day family dynamics, and like all of Lucy Diamond’s books, is by turns heart-warming, funny, and moving.
This is a good read from Lucy Diamond, who is an author I happily one-click. There was certainly a lot going on in this story and I had to keep my wits about me to keep up at times. With lots of interesting, strong female characters there is so much happening in this story about a family who is finding things are changing.
The story is fast paced and the characters are well written and full of life. The main story revolves around the women in the family, how their lives are all changing because of a few minor events and how they deal with that. Each character has her own distinctive personality. As their lives unravel and they make new paths for themselves, you can't help but cheer them on.
I really did enjoy the story, however, for me, there were too many sudden changes of character. At times I found it hard to keep up with who was who and what their backstory was. I found myself having to stop and work out who exactly they were, before continuing. Apart from that, it was a good story and very enjoyable.
"Something to tell you" is a pleasant book about pleasant people undergoing upheaval and family drama in a pleasant way. It's a really friendly, happy story that would be ideal for reading on a holiday.
After her mother’s passing, Frankie is delighted to find a letter from her mother. Her last message from mother to daughter. When she opens it she finds out about her birth and her father Harry Mortimer.
She decides to go and meet him. She turns at his Golden Wedding Anniversary Party. But it causes friction though the whole family. Instead of going on his 2nd Honeymoon with his wife Jennie after the party. She is so upset she goes on her own. The story also continues about the problems the other members have in their own relationships.
I love Lucy Diamond novels but I thought this one was hard to get into. I thought there was too many characters and I find it hard to keep up and who is who. Only in the second half of the book it suddenly came clear.3 stars from me.
I’m a big fan of Lucy Diamond and this newest book didn’t disappoint. It’s a tale of family drama with lots of sub plots from the various members of the family. I really warmed to the characters and raced to the end. In fact, I read this book all in one day! If you like women’s fiction, you don’t want to miss this one!
Love Lucy Diamond all her books are fantastic and this one didn’t disappoint . You just get drawn into her books. In this book a family get some unexpected news and also have to deal with daily dramas in their own lives as well . And Frankie who was the one with delivered the unexpected news has her own troubles to deal with .
I just love Lucy Diamond and this book did not disappoint!
I like the fact her style of writing is easy reading yet the characters are very relatable. This story followed nicely and kept me interested. Another diamond by Lucy!
Thank you NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
Frankie finds a letter from her mother, telling her who her father is. Unfortunately she meets him at the worst possible time. The book follows Frankie, her father and his adult children as all their lives take dramatic twists and turns.
It took me a while to get to grips with the characters and to keep all the storylines straight, which is a common issue I have with books with this many intertwining plots. It was interesting that all the characters we heard from were female - none of the men had a voice, which left some of the plots seeming v flat (Robyn and John's storyline suffered from this as it was very one sided).
This showed a lot of the problems that families can come up against and a lot of the different family dynamics that can occur, along with the fact that even a perfect seeming family has it's flaws.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for a review copy.
An absolutely brilliant book. There are some parts in this book that i can personally relate to, and its allowed me to see a different perspective on things. I really recommend reading this book.
I have read other lucy diamond books and this one is another which doesn’t disappoint.
The story centres on Frankie who only discovers her dads identity when her mum passes away. She decides to find her dad Harry Mortimer but unwittingly arrives in the middle of his golden wedding party.
The implications of her appearance affect all of the family who struggle with the realisation of Harry’s affair years before.
Each member of the family have their own story and this is beautifully entwined throughout the book.
I sometimes struggle when reading a book with multiple characters but thanks to Lucy’s excellent true to life story writing I quickly related to them all and was eager to find out their stories.
No family is perfect and this fact resounded throughout the book. A brilliant read which explores many issues which life throws at us. I wholeheartedly recommend this brilliant book.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for my chance to read this fantastic book.
This is my first ever read of a Lucy Diamond book. ‘Something to tell you’ is a nice easy read with interesting and some diverse, complex characters. Serious in parts and often laugh out loud I became totally involved in their lives for a few days. I intend to read more of Lucy’s books. My thanks to netgalley for introducing me to another author
A great page turner and thoroughly enjoyable read. Lots of intertwined stories on the lives of one family and how a shocking discovery affects them.
Something To Tell You is sheer joy! From raw devastation to life-affirming happiness, it’s a brilliant heart-buster! Absolutely loved it - yet another Lucy Diamond classic.
Frankie is excited to find an unopened letter from her mum who has passed away, until she realises that her mum is revealing who her father is. Discovering that her father Harry Mortimer is from York, she decides to find him and turns up as he is celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary.
Although delighted to discover he has another daughter, Harry’s secret from the past sets off a chain reaction which affects the whole family.
A great book which highlights the women of the Mortimer family and the way they deal with everyday challenges. An excellent read which I would recommend.
This is typical Lucy Diamond writing. A lovely story of family and relationships . Highly recommended
Lucy Diamond’s books are always a great read and I thoroughly enjoyed Something to Tell You. It centres around the Mortimer family - Harry and Jeanie, and their four adult children - and opens with a (metaphorical) bomb being thrown into the centre of it when Frankie, the daughter Harry never knew he had, turns up out of the blue.
That seems like plenty to be going on with but there’s lots more going on here too, with subplots for other family members which could easily each have filled a book of their own. As well as Frankie, Jeanie and Harry, daughters-in-law Robyn and Bunny also have to deal with unexpected and traumatic secrets being revealed. And Frankie too has her own troubles quite aside from the Mortimer family, when a very unwelcome face from her partner’s past turns up to throw her own bomb under them.
All the characters and stories are very engaging and it really was one of those books I never wanted to end! If I have any criticism to make it’s that things were perhaps tied up a little too neatly at the end - particularly with regard to the Julia storyline.
All in all an excellent read which I really enjoyed.
This is not the first Lucy Diamond book I’ve read or reviewed. I’ve been enjoying her books for longer than I’ve been blogging so it’s no surprise that when I was offered a copy of this book early I jumped at the chance. (I may have squealed with delight too!)
All of her books that I have read I have enjoyed to varying degrees but I have to admit that I feel this is her best yet. We start by meeting Frankie on the day she turns up at at house belonging to one of the Mortimer family. Following on from there we meet the rest of the Mortimer family and begin to learn about them and realise that, actually, their world isn’t as perfect as it would appear at first glance.
We follow various members of the Mortimer family, including Frankie, as their lives change as secrets come out and past truths are revealed. Despite there being a few threads to this story and many supporting characters in each thread (some overlapping) each character is realistic and it’s easy to imagine them walking through your door because the author has done such a brilliant job of writing them. Even those who are in the book for a few pages or less feel as solid and real as I am.
It was also brilliant to meet a cast of strong female characters who, although dealing with difficulties in their lives, are managing those difficulties and not letting themselves be controlled by them. When I was reading I felt as if I was involved with all of the characters, I knew them and followed their journeys as their lives changed and developed through the book. The complaint I have with the book, and I’ve already told the author this, is that I’ve finished it and, unless I re-read it, I’ve come to the end of my journey with the Mortimer’s.
I am equally excited for, and jealous of, all of those readers, fans of the author and those who have yet to discover her work, for they get to journey with these characters anew, something that I can no longer experience. However, despite that, my journey with them was worth every second!
I love all Lucy Diamknd books and this one is even better! Such a lovely read, nice solid characters and a well rounded plot. Thank you for the chance to review.
