A very light-hearted and easy read, Something to Tell You was enjoyable in places but contained too many cliches and obvious, predictable storylines. I found the writing to be clumsy and did not enjoy the prose style at all. Very two-dimensional characters and the females could have been written stronger. If you enjoy an extremely light family story with a happy ending you might enjoy this.
absolutely loved this book. read this in one go whilst sunbathing on holiday. love Lucy diamond books I've read a few of hers and this wont be the last
Really enjoyed this book. A lovely easy writing style and a great range of characters. I found all of the female characters to be likeable and their individual mini plots drew me in. I was amused at times, emotional at other times. Another great read from Lucy and I avidly await her next book!
I'm a big an of Lucy Diamond and couldn't wait to get started with this book. Lucy did not disappoint. I loved all the characters in this book and found this so hard to put down. Its a wonderful story about family life with all its highs and lows. Well done Lucy, another great read.
I enjoyed this book. So many stories all intertwined. Was a good read and a perfect lucy diamond. Can't wait to read more from her.
The Mortimers are a close-knit family, but when a secret from the past is revealed at Harry and Jeanie’s Golden Wedding Anniversary (in the shape of Frankie, Harry’s illegitimate daughter), relationships and loyalties are tested. On top of that, they are all facing secret challenges which will potentially change the family’s dynamic forever.
Something to Tell You is an enjoyable, beautifully written tale of love, life and a very complicated family, which had me engaged throughout - albeit at times a little confused about who was who! A perfect summer read.
I love Lucy Diamond and was eager to read this offering from her. This book seems to be a departure from her usual style, maybe there were more characters, I just can’t quite put my finger on it. That in essence is not a bad thing, but it took me a while to get into the story, I didn’t really care about some of the characters.
The more I read, the more I got into the story, but I don’t feel it is one of her better novels.
This is written with such passion and heart. I love the way that no matter what everyone finds a way together like the characters can just bounce off each other.
Harry and Jeanie are celebrating a long and happy marriage in the company of their large fun- loving family. But the bubble bursts when Frankie – the result of a fling thirty- five years previous- suddenly turns up.
Before you say blah, blah, what makes this read a thoroughly enjoyable experience- one for the beach and as refreshing as a long cool drink in the shade of the palm tree- is Lucy Diamond’s easy understanding of the complicated nature of relationships. She winds a path through a set of both normal and slightly unusual family troubles, and while it feels a little rushed at the conclusion, I loved this little oasis. Take it on holiday with you.
With thanks to Netgalley and Pan Macmillan
Family life is filled with its ups and downs and the Mortimer family is no exception. A last letter from her late mother sends Frankie on a roller coaster ride as she discovers her new found family.
A good read with many twists and turns to hold your interest.
My thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a digital review copy.
Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this story. Oh the Mortimer family, flawed, truthful and oh so perfect in every possible way. Each member of the family has something going on,its life with all its twists and turns. At the beginning I was a little taken aback by how many characters you were hearing about,I didn't feel like I was going to keep up,but I did! I found I was hooked by the story and I become attached to everyone involved. I would now love to read a book from the prospective of all the men in the family! Once again a book by Lucy Diamond that I have loved, she has never failed me.
For me I do love a Lucy Diamond, however this felt like it went on for ages.
The characters were good but they didn't draw me in as much as normal and I found it hard to relate to. However it was an easy read which was what i needed.
I love Lucy Diamond books! They are always enjoyable and feel good and this was no exception!
When Frankie's mother dies she leaves a letter with information about Frankie's father Harry Mortimer.
The story unravels from there when she sets off to find him.
We learn about the Mortimer clan and the fact no family is perfect.
This was uplifting and endearing. I found it hard at times to keep up with the many strands of the story it flitted about quite a lot. That being said I would happily recommend it to fans of chic lit or anybody who's looking for a lighter read. Thanks to NetGalley and pan MacMillan for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
Frankie finds a letter, written to her by her mother, after her mothers death. This letter opens a Pandoras' box of disclosures, as she seeks the father she didn't know she had. Confusing at times but a worthwhile read.
Loved this - great characters, great premise for a story. Laugh out loud moments as well as some that gave me a lump in my throat. Definitely recommend.
Another great book from Lucy Diamond!
This is the story of what happens when Harry, the patriarch of a close-knit family, is suddenly faced with a secret from his past, and how it affects everyone in the family. When Frankie decides to call on him without warning, to her horror she finds she has arrived in the middle of his and Jeanie's Golden Wedding party, and suddenly everything the family thought they knew changes. Great characters story goes into all the family's and unravels things.
Loved this as I always do with any Lucy Diamond book. Love getting to know a family and what makes them tick. Their trials and tribulations. Their loves and their losses. Thoroughly enjoyable.
You never know what goes on behind closed doors - and in this pleasant read, it seems like a reactively normal family have suddenly unleashed all their closeted skeletons.
Set over a few months, the book begins with a sudden appearance of a love child at a family party. This is a story all about the intricacies of family relationships, the losses, the changes, the temptations that befall us all.
I read this on holiday and enjoyed it. It may not be Pulitzer material, but I thought it was well written and hit the right tone for an easy read.
Easy to read and very well written. A lovely book about family and love. Lucy Diamond never disappoints! Definitely recommend
