This was a brilliant read. As soon as I started reading this book I just knew I was going to love it. Highly recommended

This best selling Author is one of my favourites, his books are always well researched and written clever descriptive intelligent with plenty of action and surprises along the way, and this book is no exception.
Brilliant characters are regular features some in one off stories other become a series, as is the case with FBI agent Atlee Pine in this story. Tough ballsy brave bright honest resourceful and troubled I look forward to reading her next installment and hope Carol Blum her trusty assistant is involved.
A terrific read.

This is Altee Pine book 1 in the series.
Omg. What can I say about this book. It is absolutely brilliant. Full of action spies and cover ups. I loved it. I really enjoyed this book. I liked Altee she was different. I loved it when Pine got sunburn character when he went to grab her. Also how she got the men in the bathroom break when Pine and Blum were on the road. Highly recommended. 5*.

This is the first book in what seems to be a new series by the Author featuring FBI Special Agent Atlee Pine.

A mule has been discovered dead at the base of the Grand Canyon , covered in strange markings , its rider missing - an unusual case for FBI Agent Atlee Pine . With the aid of her assistant Carol Blum she takes up the investigation and soon finds more than she bargained for .
With plenty of Goverment conspiracies and an interesting personal backstory , with the disappearance of her twin sister, there is plenty to keep the reader engaged with the outcome .
As usual the Author manages to bring multiple intrigues together to form an entertaing , fast paced thriller .

David Baldacci writes fantastically and this is no exception. I love the new case intermingling with Attlees past history, however I did find her a little hard to empathise with

This is the kind of book you're constantly asking yourself how much of what you're reading might be true. And I fear it's a lot. And this makes this story so powerful and good. I would have liked more about Atlee and Mercy's story. but hopefully their past will become more clear in the future book(s). Good story with a lot of action and nail biting moments.

This is the first book in a new series, featuring a FBI agent that kicks arse.... Atlee Pine might just be my new favorite heroine.....
She works in a small town, out of her own free will, as she does not want the politics of a big office while she is just trying to do her job.
I have read all the reviews this book received on amazon, and honestly, I might be the odd one out, but I really enjoyed the book, and would like to see more of Agent Pine in the future.

I like Atlee Pine very much and this book was a real page turner, a great plot and lots of edge of the seat action.
however it was a little far fetched in parts but sets the scene for parts two,three and more

What a brilliant book! I love David Baldacci as an author and this does not disappoint. Always good when he creates a new character for a series Special Agent Atlee Pine or does a stand alone book as love getting to know them. I also loved the location of this book - the Grand Canyon as brought back many happy memories of the places I stayed several years ago - hikes and mule ride all brought back to life by David’s brilliant writing and true to life locations. The story itself was fast paced and exciting and I really want to read the next book in the series to find out what happens next.

.David Baldacci can be a bit and miss for me sometimes but this series starter is a definite hit. Ludicrous plot of course but that's all part of the fun. I love the unique combination of Atlee and Blum and there's a great back story. Looking forward to the next installment and more detail on Atlee and her sister Mercy.

A nuke that ’s not fully armed (and takes selfies), the Grand Canyon, North Korea (almost),a mini Oddjob, the Russians, a political plot by the usual spin off American governmental hierarchy (or part thereof) and a long limbed, lonesome female FBI agent (part powerlifter and part MMA) and you’ve got the gist. Oh and a dead mule. However in the hands of Mr Baldacci this is a seamless, intriguing storyline that at times leaves you breathless. It couldn’t happen - could it? In the mix is the back story of Attlee Pine’s twin sister, missing since snatched at an early age and haunting Atlee plus an erstwhile assistant Carol Blum who goes from secretary to aide and confidante.
If you like the genre you will love the book.

A well written and engrossing thriller, absolutely loved it.
Great characterisation, fabulous and well described setting that transports you to the location. A real page turner that is very hard to put down. It is very easy to imagine the events actually happening with the current political situation.
I have no hesitation in recommending this book, looking forward to the next one.

Long Road To Mercy, the first thriller to feature FBI Special Agent Atlee Pine, begins by introducing us to our new protagonist, and we learn all about her formative years spent with her family and the troubles that have plagued her ever since, saying more would spoil it for potential readers. As her life is shaped by happenings of the past I have a feeling that this will be a recurring theme that Baldacci will continue to use throughout this brand spanking new series.

I can very much relate to Atlee Pine and her attitude and tendency towards being an introverted loner, but there is no doubting her ability to get stuck in and once she gets her teeth into something, even where she has been warned off it by her superiors, she still continues to follow her heart with no qualms about the possible consequences whether personal and/or employment-related. She is both physically and mentally strong and reminds me of the type of women guys are often intimidated by. Whilst I did appreciate her tenacity I did feel she was being a little foolish and naive at certain points. What she lacks in terms of social skills and ambition she makes up for by her don't-mess-with-me nature and her investigative skill.

The Grand Canyon was a stunning location for the book to be set and Baldacci's descriptions were wonderfully vivid. I remember thinking that the story was more than a little far-fetched, but after taking a step back and looking at it against the current political backdrop, I realised just how plausible it actually was! You recognise that Mr Baldacci has taken inspiration from the state of world politics but in particular those in the US. It's well written, with plenty of FBI action, a fast-moving pace and a suspense and tension-filled plot that will have both long-time Baldacci fans and those new to him devouring this captivating tale. This series appears to have opened with a cracker - roll on book two!

Whenever you start a book written by David Baldacci , you just sit down and make yourself comfortable and enjoy the story. This book Long Road To Mercy introduces a new main character, Atlee Pine and what a character. She is truly amazing and ably assisted by her secretary, Ms Blum. She sets out to solve a puzzle and finds a potential new man in her life.
I look forward to reading more adventures of Ms Atlee Pine and her companions.
Highly recommended.

This is the first in a new series by David Baldacci featuring FBI special agent Atlee Pine. Thirty years ago she survived a horrific attack during which her twin sister, Mercy, was taken never to be seen again. As a result Atlee suffers from ‘survivor’s guilt’ and is still seeking answers. Stationed in a remote area of the western USA, she is called in to investigate a case in the Grand Canyon involving a dead mule and his missing rider. Things quickly get complicated.

Every David Baldacci thriller that I have read has been totally addictive and this was no exception. Atlee is a compelling character, very Amazonian, and the plot is fast moving and goes into quite inventive directions. Plenty of space is also given to character development for Atlee and her secretary, Carol Blum.

I found it almost impossible to put down. I will certainly be on the lookout for future Atlee Pine adventures.

I was really looking forward to reading this story as I enjoy David Baldacci’s books so much, however I have to say this one did slightly disappoint. I found the storyline to be quite weak and I didn’t particularly warm to Agent Pine, I didn’t feel her persona had much depth and although we were given a little history about her I would have liked to have known more. Having said this I understand this is an ongoing series and hopefully her character will develop in future books. So although I felt this story came up short of his usual standard I will still read the next Agent Pine book to see how this character evolves.

I am a huge David Baldacci fan, and was excited to read his new one, especially as he brings in a new character.

On the whole it was a enjoyable read, started well with tense first chapter as we are introduced to Agent Atlee Pine who goes to a maximum security prison to interview a serial killer on the whereabouts of her twin sister who was abducted at the age of 6 from the bedroom they were both asleep in.

She is then called in to look into the disappearance of Benjamin from a group tour and with just the murdered, and mutilated mule that was left behind in the Grand Canyon, which I feel I know like the back of my hand now. Perhaps a trifle over described?

Atlee is a loner, which is why she asked to be located to a station in the middle of nowhere, she comes across as tenacious, with a never give up character and is ably assisted by Carol Blum. Atlee is a bit of a superwoman, does MMA, missed out on the Olympic team at weight lifting etc etc

Recommended and look forward to the next book.

Having never read any of this author's work before I didn't know what to expect. The description was right up my street however, and so I took the chance. I am so glad I did. This book hurtles along at full speed plot-wise but all the necessary extras are also there.

The main character of Atlee Pine is first class. She has the demons which drive her but she is smart, courageous and intuitive, all of which make her a worthy heroine and adversary. The other star is the location. The Grand Canyon comes alive under Mr Baldacci's touch. Its history, it's geographical idiosyncrasies, and its vastness all have a part to play in what was an excellent story.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this novel thanks to Netgalley in exchange for an unbiased review and recommend it for anyone who likes fast moving, complex, crime fiction. This is the first in a new series for Mr Baldacci and I may have to spend the time until the second one debuts catching up with some of his other work.

#LongRoadToMercy #NetGalley I already knew that David Baldacci was a great crime writer and so I was excited to have the chance to review the first in his new series which features a female lead character FBI Special Agent Atlee Pine. Boy, I was not disappointed!! Atlee is a great character - tough, determined, gritty, unafraid but, as with all great characters, she comes with a troubled past. The writing is great, fast paced, full of action and twists and turns. I loved the way that she teamed up with her assistant Carol Blum and how cool was it that the real life Carol Blum won a competition to have a character named after her and what a brilliant character too!. At times I did wonder if the storyline was a little unrealistic, but really, who knows what people are capable of in this political climate. Having holidayed in Arizona many years ago, it was great to remember places especially the Grand Canyon. As you would expect from the first in a series, not all loose ends are fully tied up - things will no doubt become clearer in future books and I look forward to reading more about the adventures of Thelma and Louise!. I, for one, cannot wait for the next in this series and if you are contemplating reading this book, just do it, you will not be disappointed!! A brilliant five stars
