I don't mind the plot too much even if it is slightly confusing. I enjoy sci fi and mix it in with some romance and you have something great. However the art work looked really sloppy and the text is in cursive which made it difficult to read.
This is a rather interesting graphic novel. Part erotica, part science fiction dystopia.
Good things: the art (at times), the concepts.
Not so good things: the art (at times); sometimes storylines felt very underdeveloped, the text was incredibly difficult to read because it was mostly in cursive.
Worth checking out for the original concepts at play, but unfortunately does not live up to the potential.
This is such a weird graphic novel that I was not expecting. It is absolutely full of sex and there wasn't really any explanation of what was actually going on. It seems like the author gave up with having an actual plot and just tried to cram as much nudity in as possible.
My thanks to Europe Comics for this digital copy in English of ‘Alt-Life’ via NetGalley.
Fascinating premise of two people, a virtual Adam and Eve, entering a fully immersive virtual reality as pioneers for a period before this alternative life is made available to the many others waiting to remove themselves from a dying earth.
It impressed me with thought-provoking ideas and stunning artwork. There is quite a lot of sexual encounters that threatened to dominate the narrative at times. However, it was approached with openness and the imagery was erotic. There was some humour, mainly supplied by the AIs overseeing the project.
The idea that mortality and the inability to feel pain would become tedious was explored with the attendant concept that tales of the gods entering into the mortal realm for experiences denied them was reflected by this move into a future virtual reality. Loved that ‘The Matrix’ was referenced.
A so-so sci fi story with interesting elements. The poor font choice made the reading exceedingly difficult.
A wonderful tromp through a fantastic universe. Alt-Life is easily one of the most inventive graphic novel journeys I’ve read. Beautiful images.
Unable to download, please fix the problems with the drm files so that I can proceed with a fair assessment of this work. I tried and tried but it simply does not work and it is not fair that my feedback rate is compromised over a technical problem on your side.
I really enjoyed the frank sexuality. What is most interesting is the notion that the virtual universe is limited only by imagination. It’s kind of odd that what distinguishes the real from the virtual is smell and actual pain. On the one hand the notion that the virtual world is somehow less because there’s no smell or pain and at the same time a playground for virtual gods.
