As a child I was determined to marry Mr. Rogers, and I remember him fondly. I was pleased to see that his songs/poetry had been gathered into a book. I have enjoyed reading them to my littles, and though not all of them are as easy to read without the music, they are all conversation starters. I especially appreciated the illustrations provided by Luke Flowers. , what a talent. I would like to see this collection become a standard in ever library children's department. My only regret is that there is not a cd or a website to access the music.
I received my copy through NetGalley under no obligation.
What a beautiful book! I grew up with Mr. Tiger's Neighborhood. This book brought back many fond memories. I could hear his voice singing the words I was reading.
A great book!
It's amazing that the songs and poems of Mr. Rogers' remain so applicable even nearly two decades after the end of the show. There's something kind of wonderful about it.
I received a free digital copy of this book from Netgalley for an honest review.
Oh how I love Mr. Rogers. I grew up watching the show and I was so excited when I saw this book was coming out! It held up to all my expectations! I am definitely buying a few copies of this beauty!
Is there anyone better than Mr. Rogers? I loved every poem and lyric and every message this book holds. The illustrations are beautiful and coincide with scenes from the tv show. I think this book would be a wonderful gift for educators as it helps put words to children’s feelings. Mr. Rogers was an incredible example of honesty and showing love to all his neighbors and this book is a reflection of all of that. I think this would be wonderful to read with my nieces and nephews in the future and will definitely get it as a gift for friends!
What a perfect book for children. The illustrations are bright and appealing. The book is a great way to introduce children to the wonderful world of Mr. Rogers, as it's comprised of lyrics and poems from Mr. Rogers. They may be familiar to readers who grew up watching his show. The poems are encouraging and designed to help children grow in a variety of areas (such as kindness and respect for others). This gem of a book can be enjoyed and treasured for years by anyone.
What is not to love. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is an essential text into the world of Fred Rogers. Children will adore this, the illustrations are bright and friendly.
Thank you NetGalley for my free copy in return for my honest review! As a child of the late 80's early 90's I have spent many hours in front of the TV. Always on the PBS channel! I grew up on the wisdom that is Mr.Rogers. I'm 36 and will always call him Mr.Rogers. This book is perfect for the little one in your life. The illustrations are so beautiful! I wish i could have prints of all the images! Kids today need to know who Mr.Rogers is, and this book is just the friendly reminder of what a true decent human being is. Read it! Love it and gift it!

When I saw this book come across my email I knew I needed to review it. As a child, I loved Mr. Rogers kind voice and gentle ways. I was much older than his normal audience, but my mom had a daycare and so I watched the programming with the little kids. Mr. Rogers was awarded the Presidential Medal of Honor in 2003 by President George Bush.
I was given this book for free in exchange for my honest review.
It is no coincidence that this post is being published on March18. March 20th is Wear a Sweater Day in honor of Mr. Rogers. Let's participate! If you wear a sweater, use the hashtags #wearasweaterday and #ourgoodlifebooklist and I'll enter you into a drawing for an Amazon gift card!
The book contains the lyrics to 75 of Mr. Rogers poems and songs. The cover is colorful and joyful, showing Mr. Rogers with his famous puppets. I remembered some of the songs, but most of the poems were ones I hadn't heard. I still enjoyed each and every one of them.
As expected, most of the poems show children how to figure out who and what they are. The advice in the poems is encouraging and helpful to children as they sort out their place in the world. The poems remind me of a more innocent time when it didn't take a crusade for kindness for people to treat one another with respect and dignity.
In addition to the themes of "we are all different" and "be kind to one another" Rogers has poems designed to make kids giggle such as "Elephants." I enjoyed the belly laughs that come when you read "Walking Giraffe" to a child.
Mr. Rogers also helped kids through tough times as shown in "Good People Sometimes Do Bad Things." I think kids get the sense that Mr. Rogers has had his own share of bad times and knows how a kid might feel.
This should be your go-to baby shower gift. These poems and songs should be a part of every child's learning. With brilliant illustrations by Luke Flowers, this book will be timeless.
I received an advanced ecopy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book ooozes nostalgia, it made my 90s baby heart happy! It's full of the songs and poems of Mr.
Rogers and brought back so many memories of childhood. The poems are written in a very approachable way for children and adults a like. The illustrations are stunning. Overall this book is beautiful!
Beautiful illustrations by Luke Flowers (one of my favorite artists!) highlight Fred Rogers' words of kindness used in the songs on his show. A great way to introduce Mr. Rogers to kids or to supplement his already wonderful program. Highly recommend!

A collection of songs/poetry we all know and love from Mr. Roger’s neighborhood. A lovely gem of a book!
My family adored the documentary Won’t You Be My Neighbor? just last month and I grew up loving Mr. Rogers throughout my childhood. Therefore, I was thrilled when I was given an opportunity to review this ARC, due to be published on March 19th. Mr. Rogers was the author of many children’s books as well as the composer and lyricist for over 200 songs. This delightful picture book shares the lyrics to 75 of his songs/poems from over 30 years of the Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood show and The Children’s Corner. The songs cover a wide variety of topics, such as: how special you are, what you want to be one day, growing and changing, feelings (anger, jealousy, happiness, fear, bravery, etc.) and realizing that your parents were once young.
The book also contains songs/poetry pertaining to more difficult topics, like realizing that good people sometimes do bad things and the difficulty of adjusting to the birth of a new baby sibling. Included with each song/poem page spread are matching colorful illustrations created by Luke Flowers. Some of the artwork shows scenes from the original TV show while others are of childhood themes pertaining to the song lyrics. In the back of the book there’s a detailed topical index followed by more information about Fred McFeely Rogers. For example, many don’t know that the Canadian show Misterogers was a precursor to what eventually became Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood on NET (which later became PBS).
Between the beautiful lyrics, the sweet illustrations, and the additional information provided in the back matter, this book will be well loved by modern families of young children as well as by those of us who grew up watching Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood, daily. My thanks to NetGalley and Quirk Books for gifting me an early copy of A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood so that I could provide an honest review. It releases on March 19th and will be an excellent addition to any children’s library. However, it will be even more special when you sit down and discuss these topics with children while you read each page!
Many of my generation grew up with Fred Rogers' gentle presence on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, and I was delighted to learn of Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood premiering when my oldest was a toddler. When I learned of a book about to be published that contained 75 songs, I was delighted.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is a welcoming picture book with both new and familiar songs. Some might present better if you know the tune, but the messages conveyed are valuable.
Charming illustrations sprinkle the pages, and the simple words are affirming and encouraging. Are the poems masterpieces? Maybe not, but they possess truths we need to hear in simple words anyone can grasp.
Repeatedly though these pages, Fred Rogers reminds us that we are enough, just as we are. That we are creative and bright. That we are amazing and can do and be our best. That we can and do have big feelings, but those strong emotions are worth naming and processing.
I found myself slowing down as I read, breathing deeply and becoming calm and peaceful while reading. This book is a gift to treasure, much as Fred Rogers' legacy is.
(I received a digital ARC from Quirk Books via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.)
Be the best of whatever you are. Be the best of whatever you are.
If you grew up watching Mister Rogers or a parent watching with your children, you will remember the tunes being catchy and the words being encouraging. Mr. Rogers valued people and most especially the littlest of people. I now watch Daniel Tiger with my grandchildren and love the message it continues to give as Mr. Rogers's neighborhood. There are scary feelings, mad feelings, happy feelings and feelings we don't know how to grasp. It helps parents know how to mine thru the feelings of our children. That feelings matter and it teaches to be responsible for those feelings. We don't last lash out but we work it out.
Come down memory lane with the poetry of Mister Rogers, you will be better for it.
A Special Thank you to Quirk Books and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
I could not tell you how excited I was to read and review this book for you all. Mister Rogers was an amazing human being who taught children to love themselves and to be kind to others. The book is the complete collection of poems Mister Roger’s wrote for his show starting with his famous poem, “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”.
His full collection of poems is also depicted through illustrations, which are as fun, warm, and colorful as the poems themselves. The connections between the poems and the illustrations are as powerful as the subject matter in each one. My personal favorites include, “Things Are Different”, “What Can You Hear?”, and “I’m Glad I’m the Way I am”.
This is one of those books that should be on every shelf. Everyone could always use more of Mister Rogers. All of the poems have a subject for feelings children face but may not know how to express. This is an all around feel good book. This book, although geared for children, is one that I recommend to EVERYONE!
The students in my class absolutely enjoyed this book. The wonderful story line as well as the illustrations kept them engaged throughout the full story.
Mr. Rogers' mission was to teach children new things about the world and about themselves. Although episodes of "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" can be found on DVD and through streaming video, children don't have the opportunity to see Mr. Rogers on a regular schedules the way that previous generations did. By putting all of Mr. Rogers' best-loved and well-known songs and poems in one collection, "A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood" continues his lifelong mission of helping children.
While poetry critics may find some of the poems clunky or awkward, the poems deliver their messages about self-esteem, positive regard, and feelings to the intended audience. It's easy to forget that Mr. Rogers found ways to tackle tough topics with children. The poems cover everything from dealing with anger and loneliness to the age-old fear of going down the drain with the bathwater. Older readers who grew up with Mr. Rogers are likely to find this book a useful tool in having those tough conversations with their children while they rediscover old favorites like "It's You I Like" and old treasures that weren't quite as well-known but still carry a powerful message, like "Good People Sometimes Do Bad Things." Overall, this is a wonderful book that kids and parents will find interesting and helpful.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood by Fred Rogers. This was a cute picture book that took me straight back to my childhood.
Thank you publishers and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy.
I love Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. His show was such a huge part of my childhood. It has been wonderful to share his kindness with my kids through Daniel Tiger's Neighboorhood.
This book is so sing-song lovely!! His poems are so true to the emotions of childhood. As a teacher, I am excited to share these poems with them.
