This was a beautiful picture book filled with the songs from the Mr. Rogers children’s show. I enjoyed it because I grew up watching Mr. Rogers and I think today’s kids would like it because they are familiar with Daniel Tiger from the PBS cartoon. The illustrations are gorgeous and colorful and would capture any child’s attention. The songs can be read like poetry and the index helps you identify what each poem represents. For example, if you want to read to your child about patience, the index gives you the poem and the page number of where to find it. There are so many great topics to choose from like making mistakes, manners, sharing, shyness, and friendship. I am definitely adding this book to my children’s books collection.
What a beautiful book! Mister Rogers served as an inspiration to young and older readers alike and this book serves to reinforce the universal message of individual worth.
The poems and songs in this book so sensitively convey those qualities that make everyone special He brings up those uncomfortable situations that every child is certain to experience but makes sure that they know that it is commonplace and a contention that leads to maturity. The book will be adored by its readers!
I can already tell, this is going to become a favorite in our house! The poems and illustrations brought me back to my childhood. I can see incorporating these poems into my homeschool curriculum for a poetry unit and additionally for character ed lessons! I can't wait to purchase a physical copy to share with my children.
This was wonderful! What a trip down memory lane, remembering many of these from my childhood of watching Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood. A lovely collection of the songs Mr. Rogers sang on his show, brought together with delightful illustrations (some even featuring our favorite characters and Mr. Rogers himself!) A must-have for children's libraries everywhere. (My only complaint is I wish every song had a picture accompanying it - I know some are more abstract ideas, and the muted pastel page colors were nice but a full illustration to capture young children's attention would be better I think).
This book is very nostalgic. I can see it being ideal for parents of young kids to read a poem or song or two out loud each night before bed or during story time. It’s definitely not a cover to cover type of book. If my kids were younger I would definitely add this to our collection of bedtime books.
WOW, this book was made me so happy! The artwork was perfect for the book and so very cheerful to look at, matching the poetry of each "song" that Fred Rogers used in his many years' TV programs. You will not have to have watched the show to enjoy this book, but it will draw many former viewers and their families and friends. I can easily see a parent (or teacher) reading these poems to their children, a couple of pages a day, and even taking the time to discuss the messages of principles of higher character and how our choices can make us happy or sad. It's just wonderful. Now go be happy!
I was SO glad to receive this as an ARC from NetGalley! #BeautifulDayintheNeighborhood #NetGalley
This book was an emotional trip down memory lane for me. Mister Rogers was a huge part of my childhood. Reading these poems of the page stirred in me how important Rogers words were to a generation of children. All the feelings I held growing up proved valid and important in the world Rogers created and as an adult I can see how these songs stand the test of time and can spark healthy discussions with the current generation of kids growing up right now.
My one complaint about this book would be the art. It is very amateurish to me. Maybe it's deliberately done but I would have much preferred pictures of the real Mister Rogers and his set.
This is a really great book for adults to read with children, whether it be parents reading with their children or teachers reading with the students. These classic songs carry great messages for children and the beautiful illustrations incorporate the magic from the show. I highly recommend this for teachers, librarians, and parents to add to their bookshelves!
I truly enjoyed reading the songs and poetry of one of the best humans from my childhood. It was the proverbial "walk down memory lane".
About this specific edition/format: I am anxious to see the finished book because the digital version did not flow very well... words and images were cut off and looked like a Picasso painting.
Love Mr Rogers. This is a great poetry book for fans of the show and those who are new. Great positive messages.
I really wanted to love this book more than I did. I loved the pictures, I loved the poetry but it was bit long. In the book's defense though, this wasn't written with me in mind and who doesn't love to visit the world of Mr. Rogers. He will always have a special place in everyone's heart and there were times when I read some of the poems and I found them so uplifting. I can't wait for others to read it and experience the same feeling. It will leave them with the same hopefulness we felt every time Mr. Rogers welcomed us to his neighborhood.
This was a very sweet book! I loved having all of his songs in one place, as it holds such great memories from my childhood. This would be a perfect gift for anyone who loves Mr. Rogers.
Mr. Rogers has delighted children for decades. Some of the most teachable moments and memorable connections have happened through the songs that Fred Rogers composed. It is wonderful to have these song lyrics available to read and study.
I received an electronic ARC from Quirk Books through NetGalley. Thank you!
The songs from Mr. Rogers Neighborhood all together in one beautifully illustrated book.
Roger's simple words passed on powerful messages to children and adults alike. It's a trip down memory lane to read (and sing along) to so many of these songs.
I have been a huge fan of Mister Rogers for my entire life and I am delighted that this collection pays proper homage to his legacy.
Beautiful, softly rendered art of Fred Rodgers and his neighborhood! The text is the lyrics from the show's songs. If you know the tunes, it would be a quieter read aloud for some selected poems. A full read through might be tedious for younger lap-sit readers. Expect older readers and adults looking for this book so they can reminisce--- especially with the recent documentary and upcoming biopic about Fred Rodgers.
My children enjoyed the colorful illustrations in this book, and I enjoyed the feeling of nostalgia it gave me, as a child who grew up watching Mr. Rogers on TV. Would make a sweet addition to any child’s bookshelf.
The nostalgia alone makes this a wonderful read. Beyond that, I love finding child friendly poems to use in my classroom. While we sometimes remember Mr. Rogers as quaint, this book reminds me that his show was also about inclusion, acceptance, and growing up. After my first read through, I am drawn to poems like Things Are Different and Fences, but I have a feeling that my favorites will change often after rereading. I will definitely add a hard copy of this one to my classroom library.
What a wonderful collection of Mr. Roger's songs and poems! The messages from each are applicable to all children and adults. The are beautiful illustrations that go along with the "passages and make this a very kid friendly book. Perfect for a morning read, or bedtime story.
I grew up watching Mr. Rogers's Neighborhood, so I enjoyed reading these familiar songs. I plan to recommend it to my sister, who teaches preschool.
