Holy heart pounding read! Lots of twists! 5 star read.
I loved the back and forth chapters of "Ella - NOW" and "Ten years ago".
The author did a great job at dangling the fact that something bad happened 10 years ago in our face but not telling us what happened until the near end. The whole book all I wanted to know was what happened!!?
The twist was definitely not one I expected and it made me gasp.
This is one you won't be able to or want to put down.

Also - how about that cover! Beautifully haunting.
Thank you #NetGalley, the author and the publisher for my free ARC in exchange fr my honest review! Posting on Goodreads and Amazon.

I am a huge fan of Samantha Hayes so I was delighted to have the opportunity to read her latest book as an arc. I literally could not stop reading this! Ella is plunged into a nightmare when she wakens up in hospital, badly injured after an accident, with a man from her past claiming to be her husband. This is a man Ella expected never to see again, and the incriminating evidence he holds over her means she is trapped when the hospital releases her into his care. What follows next is a nightmare scenario where Ella's every move is controlled by her 'husband' and the horror is slowly but surely ramped up.
I love Samantha Hayes as an author and this book was immensely readable, however, I did feel that some of the situations were slightly unbelievable. That said though, I would certainly recommend it as a compelling psychological thriller.

My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read The Liars Wife.
When Ella is hit by a van on her cycle ride home she wakes up in hospital. Obviously, she is scared and confused because she doesn't remember the accident, but her nurse assures her that all will be well because her husband who has brought her chocolates and flowers has visited every day, and will soon take her home.

Ella is even more confused because she knows has never married.

This psychological twister will keep you guessing right until the very end. The build-up is a little slow and if you prefer a faster pace it might be too slow for you, but the slow burn is worth the wait. Keenly and subtly laced with clues, the denouement is a surprise. Perfect for those who love twisty-turny stories that keep readers on tenterhooks.

3.3/5 (thank you Netgalley & Bookouture for the digital arc)

Ella was hit by a van during her way home from work one night. When she came to, a man said that he was her husband and proceed to sorta blackmail Ella to become his wife and play his make-belief family, including a baby he suddenly procured. Ella kept her mouth shut because she recognise the man from her dark past. What could she do to stay alive and ran away, once more, from this man?

(This might contain spoiler?? I'm not sure tho)

Let me break it down a bit.
The prologue was nice, setting up Ella as a loner and foreshadowing to her past. However, she was quite an inconsistent one. Want nothing to do with her work mates, rather doing the editing on her project and yet, she also said anything to get out of the project. Which one was it, Ella?

Moving on, some parts can be trimmed, such as the hospital scenes and Liam's pov. I don't know, I'd rather have Ella's pov the whole books (since I already got Ella ten years ago and current Ella pov) than sharing it with Liam.

There was zero chemistry between Liam and Ella, so I didn't get the feel of why he wanted to rescue her. Also, her work mates? Trashes. I read how Adam at least asked Ella to go to their gathering, but then kinda ignored the fact that Ella was gone for days? Some discussions might be nice. It's like none has a consistent personality in here.

And don't let me started on Ella.
She was so unlikable.
Sure, I understand, she was the abuse victim. She lied to cover her past, she lied to cover her current situation, but she also wanted to get out of it? Like, how? You needed help, girl! And when help was given, you took it! You are unable to walk, with a mysterious baby on hands, please for the sake of everything, get help. You're lucky some people want to help.

Kudos to the twist. I thought I knew it from the start, but I didn't.

Overall, it'd work better if I didn't have to read Ella's situation, like maybe more background of her at work, her and Liam and the mates, establishing some ground before plunging her to the fiery pit of death. Heh.

Ella follows the mantra of home, work, sleep. She doesn't go out with co-workers, she rebuffs anyone's attempt to befriend her, she makes herself as unnoticeable as possible. Then one rainy evening on the way home, a van hits the bike Ella is riding and she winds up in the hospital with serious injuries. When she comes out of her medically-induced coma, she discovers her world has been turned upside down. The man she thought was dead is alive and posing as her husband.
This books grabs your attention from the very first page and keeps you in it's grips to the very last page. Full of suspense and twists you would never have considered, this book is definitely a must-read. This is one of the best new thrillers this year.

This one will keep you turning pages until the last detail is complete. It certainly kept me guessing. Ella Sinclair works, does not socialize, and has no real friends. One evening she is hit by a van while riding her bicycle home, and her world turns upside down. A man from her past cares for her in the hospital, and then takes her to his home. She is imprisoned in the home. Then Jacob steals a baby. There are many heart pounding moments before the end. I appreciate the publisher and NetGalley allowing me to be an early reader in exchange for my fair and honest review.

Ella Sinclair is a good worker but she never socializes outside of the office. One night Ella was bicycling home from work and is hit by a van. She is placed in an induced coma in the hospital. The nurses fawn around her husband who visits every day. When Ella awakens, Jacob, (her husband?) visits her and threatens her to always remember that he is Jacob Sinclair. He holds up a videotape: Lakehouse 8. She complies with him (we do not know yet why). However, she tells him that she hates him. (She thought that she had killed him, too.)

Jacob tells Ella about the home they are going to return to . She had been living alone for 10 years yet Jacob closes out her apartment and brings some of her stuff to the new house. She hates the new place. She hurls a glass at the wall. He hurls a fist at her face. Ella is locked into the place; wheelchair dependent. She still has a long leg cast and an arm cast. Some of her internal organs were damaged. Two were removed. Doors are securely locked, alarms set and hidden cameras are placed inside the house. Jacob brings Ella a (stolen?) kitten and a kidnapped baby to keep her feeling more and more obligated (to him?). What a guy! She also is being drugged into a mild stupor.

One thing Jacob didn't count on were the neighbors. They become nosy and try to help Ella out. Yet their help always seems to generally warrant a pummeling by her husband.

Important events of the past 10 years are highlighted throughout the book, weaving together with present happenings.

Liam, a former co-worker of Ella's, traces her whereabouts and that's when sparks really begin to fly. The past and the present are neatly tied together by Ms. Hayes as the suspense grows and grows...

This is one book for all readers; particularly those avid readers of Thrillers/Suspense
Do not miss this read! It's great!

Many thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for a splendid story, indeed !!!

What to make of this book? I liked the sound of it, but just struggled to get into it.there was nothing wrong with the writing style, but I didn't enjoy the slow pace,I kept reading really hoping it would speed up but it didn't. I also didn't think the main character was very well fleshed out and I didn't really like her so it stopped me caring what happened ,I really did want to enjoy this book but it just wasn't a good fit for me.I can see from other reviews that I am in the minority, and I am happy to be,I hope others enjoy this book more than I did, reading is an individual experience, I have enjoyed this authors books previously, and will not be put off trying her new books in the future. Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for an ARC.

Yessss! This book is compulsively readable, so much so that I did the thing where I walked all over my house with it today, greedily consuming page after page as I pretended to do other things and hoped no one needed anything.

This story is told, alternately, both in the present and 10 years ago. In the past we know that something horrible happened but we're not quite clear initially what it was that shaped the Ella of today. In the present, Ella, who is single and a loner, has an accident, wakes up in the hospital and is greeted by her "husband" whom she instantly recognizes as a central figure from 10 years ago.

As these two stories intersect, we get to learn both of them and woot, woot, is this a thrilling, suspenseful, surprising and altogether satisfying journey! WOW!

Thank you to the always brilliant Samantha Hayes and to Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this fabulous ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was extraordinary! Not many thriller's authors can keep me from guessing the ending. Samantha Hayes did just that. The story line was simple. Lonely girl running from her past and yet it caught up with her anyway. However, I did not see the ending, ending in that way. It was brilliant. It tied wrapped up the story in a very satisfactory way.

This book had me gripped from page one! It was creepy and freaked me out but couldn't put it down, a bit like sleeping with the enemy! This too would make a great film.

Samantha Hayes has written a superb psychological suspense.

Ella Sinclair has spent most of her adult life alone. She keeps to her repetitive schedule of “work, home, sleep” until one night an accident leaves her hospitalized. As Ella emerges from her injuries, the nurse in charge of her care reassures her confusion and frailty with the commitment that her husband has been at her side since the day after the accident. The only problem is, Ella is not married and never has been. Has the accident made her forget parts of her life? Are her injuries worse than she thinks? Just as Ella feels the confusion couldn’t become worse…He. Walks. In. Not her husband, not at all. But she must play along. She has no choice. He knows too much. Then as if her nightmare could not become worse, Ella is discharged to his care, sent home with the one man she has spent a decade hiding from.

This book has a very slow build up and for those looking for a faster paced, intense thriller, this will disappoint. However, the execution is fantastic for a psychological suspense novel. The characters are well developed and the plot is manipulative. Hayes does a good job in giving enough of the backstory while suppressing other components that ultimately leave the reader stunned. I love when an author drops subtle hints throughout a story that the reader can only appreciate after the fact. Great read, 4 stars.

You’re on your bike cycling home....
You’re involved in a hit and run....
You’re also living a secret life after an incident 10 years ago that left 2 dead...
No one knows about the real you, even your colleagues at work....
So when you wake and the kindly nurse says ‘ you’re husband will be pleased’....and you look and its one of the men you ‘killed’ now masquerading as your husband all you can do is scream inside..

And thats just the beginning of this disturbing yet alluring story that pushes all the right buttons from the off and continues to push them right up until the last page

The story is mesmerising as it draws you in and wont let go ( well didn’t me ) and at times I had to reign myself back from wanting to find out the outcome, NOW!!

The characters are in turn believable in equal measure of vulnerability and vileness and will have your emotions flaring at the sheer boldness of ‘Jacob’ and what he does

The writing is as always from this author, perfect and the story is one that makes you want to tell someone about the brilliant book you have just read

The ending will shock you and left me reeling a bit if I’m honest

In my top 3 reads of this year ( so far! )

Awesome and as near as wonderful fiction gets 10/10 5 stars

It’s a waking nightmare. Ella comes to in a hospital after an accident and notices a get well card from her husband. There’s only one problem with that – Ella doesn’t have a husband. But she does recognize the man who is claiming to be married to her and she knows she has no choice but to go along with his charade, if not, her past, and what she has done will come to light. Hayes takes a cliched plot line and adds fresh menace with a likable heroine and a plot twist I didn’t see coming

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The premise of this book sounded very interesting. Unfortunately, the execution was not my cup of tea. It was very slow-paced and at 20% I hardly knew more than when I'd started. Others who enjoy a very slow buildup may connect with this book but it was too slow for me. I decided to move on.

.You thought that you were safe. Ella is a normal young woman that goes about her day and tries to not get involved with anybody. She learnt a harsh lesson ten years previously so she sticks to herself now. She goes to work then home to sleep and she never breaks her routine. But all changes when she is hit off her bike and when she wakes up, she knows that she will never be the same again. Her greatest fear has come true, the person that she thought that she had killed is back and they are going to make sure that she pays for everything that she did. Ten years ago she had hopes and dreams so when she met Zach she was wary as he was popular and his parents were very rich. She came from the poor part of town and she & her twin Harry have to work extra hard to make it in the world. She isn't sure about getting involved with Zach but her best friend Meggie thinks that it is a great idea. And before long they are doing everything together but Ella refuses to give Zach what he wants, so he takes it from her and that night her whole world changes. Now she is living in fear as she is been held captive and she can't escape as she can't walk properly but that doesn't mean that she will stop trying to escape. Now she knows that Jacob as he wants to be known won't ever let her go and now she has someone else to protect, she will need to find a way to get away with the baby. Jacob wanted them to be a family so he took someone's baby and now their family is complete. Everyday Ella tries abit harder to become stronger so that she can escape but everything changes when someone that she works finds her. Liam knew that something was very wrong when Ella just disappeared, he tried everything to find her and everything that he feared is right before him. But before they can escape Jacob comes home and he will make sure that Liam pays for trying to take what is his. Can Ella stop Jacob from killing Liam? Is all hope gone? But Liam isn't willing to die just yet, can he find the strength to save Ella & the baby? What a great read, thrilling from the very beginning. Ella went through hell ten years ago and that night changes her very being and I can understand why she became withdrawn and why she tries to carry on everyday. She is true survivor and she never gives in to her fears and that is what makes the story even more real. Liam who knew that he had it in him. Thank heavens that he never just gave up looking for her. What can we say about Jacob, one sick man. Never saw the real Jacob until it was too late, he is one sick man that wanted to keep Ella under his control forever. The author keeps on putting out these amazing thrilling read. A must read. I was lucky enough to receive a copy via Netgalley & the publishing house in exchange for my honest review.

Oh my freaking god! What a fabulous and intriguing read The Liar’s Wife by Samantha Hayes turned out to be. I must be honest when I read the book description I wasn’t convinced it would be an original read, as I’ve read numerous psychological thrillers where the protagonist wakes up from a coma with no memory, but what makes this one so different is in the telling of a very twisted and shocking tale. I must mention the author has surpassed herself and this is definitely the best book I’ve read by her YET! As to Hayes imagination it’s twisted and very, very devious, but I absolutely loved this shocker of a book.

When Ella wakes up in hospital following a hit-and-run incident, her loving and caring husband Jacob is there, eager for her to get well and move into their new home, there’s only one problem Ella has no recollection of marrying Jacob! Who is the man who claims to be married to Ella? And what hold does he have over Ella? You immediately sense the tension between the the couple, there’s something off about their relationship that raises alarm bells, and I couldn’t wait to read on and find out what secrets this strange couple were hiding.

Ella is a character I found mystifying, a woman whose mantra is “home, work, sleep” keeps work colleagues at a arms length and appears to have no friends or family, but Hayes deftly pulls back the layers of this complex character and you realise there maybe a very good reason for her odd behaviour. There are sporadic chapters that delve into Ella’s past and these were the ones I found the most disturbing, Hayes manages to inject a sense of foreboding into each chapter which made this read all the more compelling. As for Jacob, oh how I loathed him, this is a man with not one redeeming feature, he’s cruel, manipulative and very dangerous and as for his backstory it’s a shocker and one I that left me stunned, as to the why, well you are just going to have to read the book and see.

If I had one small niggle it would be the fact that I thought Ella could have done more to save herself from a very dangerous situation (vague I know but I would hate to give away spoilers) although the author does give a plausible reason for her behaviour so I was happy to push the boundaries of my own imagination. The Liar’s Wife has to be one of the most exciting psychological thrillers I’ve read all year, it incorporates all the elements I love, mystery, suspense horror, and drama. Would I recommend this book? Definitely even if it means you have to beg, steal or borrow it ( ok on second thoughts just buy it you won’t disappointed I promise)

Review maybe altered slightly and edited prior to publication on my blog

The Liar's Wife by Samantha Hayes was a psychological thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat.
Ella is cycling home from work one evening, it's cold and wet and hard to see the road. She is hit by a van and wakes up in hospital with a broken arm and leg. She is feeling ill, confused and in a lot of pain. The nurse tells Ella that her husband has visited her every day and will be very please to see her awake. When Ella sees the person who is claiming to be her husband she is too scared to tell the nurse the truth.
A story full of secrets, lies and manipulation. These are some parts of the story that we're totally unbelievable but that didn't stop me enjoying this book.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
