Ella Sinclair leads a pretty rigid life - work, home, sleep, repeat. She doesn't socialize with her coworkers and survives mainly on microwave meals for one. While riding her bike home from work one night, she is the victim of a hit and run, and wakes to find herself in the hospital with a broken arm and leg. Most disconcerting is her husband, Jacob, who is by her side and gushing to all the nurses about their life together. The thing is, Ella isn't married and Jacob is a nightmare figure from her past with a secret he is holding over her. She has no choice but to play along and go home with him to the house he has set up for their new life together. Bound to a wheelchair and held hostage in her new home, Ella is forced to play house or risk losing her life.

This reminded me a lot of Behind Closed Doors by B.A.Paris. There were many similar elements, but this story also had some interesting twists. The reader knows early on that Jacob isn't his real name, but we're left to guess as to his true identity. I had it narrowed down to three possibilities and was pleased with the mystery of it.

There was great build up in this story, but then it just kind of wrapped up with a "Six Months Later" chapter. Too quickly and too neatly for my taste; I feel like there should have been more of an explanation for the time that was put into building it up. I would also liked to have known more about some of the characters from Ella's past (what was up with Ethan?).

This is the first book I've read by Ms. Hayes, but I would definitely look into other works of hers. Glad to have been introduced to this author!

What a rollercoaster.

Start off slowly but the tension mounts.

Thoroughly enjoyed this dark thriller. Few points that are a little unbelievable however just go with the flow of the story.

Looking forward to the next offering by Samantha Hayes.

THE LIAR’S WIFE is a psychological character-driven drama, from the author of The Reunion by Samantha Hayes. This is one creepy read.

When Ella wakes up in a hospital following a hit-and-run incident, she is scared and confused. Close to tears, her eyes fall on a get-well-soon card on the window sill and the nurse reassures her that her loving husband will be back soon...

But Ella has never been married.

Ella is a loner who has a dark secret that it has her trapped in her own life... Work, home, eat, sleep. Repeat.... no social life, no friends, no romances.

Fear can be the only reaction Ella has when she instantly recognizes the man who enters the ward. He is not her husband, but she knows that she must do as he says and play the part of dutiful wife.

What choice does she have? He was there the night of the fire, he knows her secret too…

The Liar’s Wife is a slow-paced psychological character-driven novel told from Ella’s POV going back and forth between the past and the present. This is a story full of secrets and lies. There are some parts of the story that are totally unbelievable but that didn't stop me enjoying this book.

An enjoyable read with a few secrets and a surprise end.

Many thanks to Bookouture via NetGalley for my digital copy.

The start of this book was promising and I was engaged immediately however sadly I just couldn’t get into the plot, I found it a bit unrealistic- if a man claimed to be your husband especially in a hospital setting surely you would speak up and the nurses would notice something is a miss?

I’ve read other Samantha Hayes books and enjoyed them but sadly this just isn’t for me.

Yet another totally gripping read from Samantha Hayes. This book had me hooked from start to finish. What was Ella hiding and who was her husband, these questions had me engrossed in the book and I was desperate to find out the answers.. A clever plot with jaw dropping twists.

Ella's life is about to be turned upside down when she wakes up in the hospital following a hit and run accident and is told her husband will be back... Ella can't recall ever being married. The suspense builds from that moment and doesn't quit until the end.

The most dark and disturbing book I’ve read in a long while. All I kept thinking was ‘how the hell is she going to get out of this situation?!’
Sam Hayes is the queen of chilling, twisty novels.

Thanks to Bookouture for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review.

Ella is scared and worried. She wakes up in hospital after an accident and the nurse assures her that her husband is waiting anxiously for her to get up. Ella despite the injuries knows that she has never been married and is now terrified that her past life and the secret she carries is about to be exposed.

This is one of those psychological thrillers where you root for the party who is downtrodden and in this case it is Ella and you hope that she will be able to get out of this predicament. It is quite a dark read and maybe not for everyone! It keeps you on edge right up to the end.

What a page turner! I've read a number of Hayes' books and this one lives up to my high expectations. The characters were well developed and the story fast paced and full of twists and turns. Recommended!

*Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.* Without revealing spoilers for either novel, 'The Liar's Wife' was somewhat reminiscent of B. A. Paris' 'Behind Closed Doors'. Ella is a quiet, self-contained woman who very much lives alone and on her own terms. Cycling home from work one night, she is hit by a van and ends up in hospital. Suddenly her life is changed and not for the better. A man turns up at the hospital ward, claiming to be her husband and Ella has no choice but to go along with the ruse. Told in alternating chapters from the past and the present, a horrifying story unfolds of secret and betrayal. An intriguing story for those, like me, who are fans of domestic thrillers. Just a warning for some, there are a number of violent scenes in the book. Not gratuitous, but the squeamish may wish to skim read those sections.

This book sure packed a wallop!!!!

Ella Sinclair has a strict routine, work, home sleep, work home, sleep. That is until she wakes up in the hospital after being hit by a van as she was riding her bike home after work. But something is drastically wrong. The nurse informs Ella that her husband has been by her side since she was admitted. The problem is that Ella is not married.

For the past 10 years, Ella has kept to herself. She doesn't share anything about her personal life nor does she interact with her co-workers socially as she is hiding from her past. That is until she opens her eyes at the hospital and sees that her past has caught up with her.

A thrilling and chilling read from the Prologue to the last word!! A white knuckle experience! The story alternates between the present and what happened 10 years ago. The ending was mind blowing, which I did not see coming. I don't think I have ever hated a character as much as I did with Jacob.

This is the first book that I have read by this author, however, it won't be my last. I am putting Ms. Hayes on my "authors to read" list.

If you like psychological thrillers, then I highly recommend this book.

Ooofff. You wake up from a coma after a hit and run and your husband is sat there. Only you don’t have a husband. And you killed this man years ago. Devoured this. Absolutely loved it.
5/5 on goodreads.

For me, this book started off slow and then picked up. However, I just did not read it as fast as other books for some reason. While I enjoyed the story I think the characters could have been a little better developed. I found the book a little confusing as the scenes where Ella was recalling the past were not as consistent as I found other books to be that go back in time. But eventually it all pulled together and had an ending I really did not see coming which is always the best.

I expected this book to be oh-so-much more when I read the description. The book starts out well with the main character, Ella, getting hit by a van while riding home on her bike after work. She has an introverted personality but her coworker Liam has taken a liking to her and decides to pursue her in a non-creepy way. Ella wakes up in the hospital and because the accident was a hit and run it is all over the news. She wakes up to her "husband" Jacob at her bedside with the nurses telling her how lucky she is to have such a wonderful, doting husband. The problem is, Ella is not married. The biggest problem I had with this story is why Ella didn't say something to the nurses and hospital staff, to begin with. Sure, her past is a bit shady but she really just digs herself into a deeper hole the more the story progresses. Jacob is clearly a psychopath and locks her in their house every day. The story started out well enough but it was difficult to empathize with Ella because of her choices. The ending just sort of fell flat and was completely unrealistic. An okay read but don't expect anything amazing.
