Ella is living a quiet solitary life until one day she is hit by a car. When she wakes up in the hospital, her husband is there to care for her and take her home. Problem is, Ella isn’t married.
Story moves back and forth from the present to 10 years ago, all the while the reader is trying to figure out who this “husband” is and how he is connected to Ella’s past. Very intriguing, with a surprise ending. I do wish the author wrote maybe 10 more pages to tie the storyline up a little tighter.

The Liar's wife is a fabulous psychological thriller that will keep on the edge of your seat. I had to read this in one sitting. The best of the year.

3.5 stars. I have read a few other book by Samantha Hayes and enjoyed them but to be honest I struggled with this one a bit. It started out promising but then just seemed to drag along with not much happening for the majority of the book until the big reveal at the end which I had already guessed. I didn't particularly like the main character and had no sympathy for her at all. I would however read more of this authors books in the future, unfotunately this one just didn't grab me at all.

Ella Sinclair has led her life for the past 10 years in the same ritualistic way she thinks about her days: Work, Home, Sleep, Repeat. Then tragedy strikes and she wakes up in a hospital bed after having been in an accident. The nurse tells Ella that her husband has been standing vigil by her bedside. Ella is confused. She doesn’t have a husband. Then she sees him . . . and a nightmare begins.

This is a true psychological thriller! It contains suspense, heart-pounding situations – not all action, but words that confuse, raise your blood pressure and leave you to discover your fists clenched at the end of chapters.

I didn’t care for the way the book switched to 10 years ago in such a haphazard manner but continued to persevere. I am I glad I did!!!! There was a reason that Samantha Hayes chose to write in this format which you will realize at the end. I haven’t read a book that messed with my head in such a manner that left me blindsided in the end. What a ride! It may start out slow and methodical but it is so, so worth it.

I am a true Samantha Hayes fan after finishing this book.

I received an eBook ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That in no way affects my opinion or ratings of this book.

I have enjoyed enjoyed previous books by Samantha Hayes, so I was delighted to see that there was a new one to get my teeth into & I was not disappointed.

Ella wakes up in a hospital bed. The kindly nurse reassures her & tells her that her husband will be so pleased she is awake. But Ella doesn't have a husband. She has spent her life trying to be as unobtrusive s possible trying to forget something that changed her life ten years ago. When her 'husband' arrives he is the last person she expects. No-one seems to listen when she protests. She has been the victim of a hit & run & with a broken leg, broken arm and having been in an induced coma & is bound to be confused! When she leaves hospital & is taken 'home' she finds herself a helpless prisoner.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat. I never saw the end twist coming. A five star read- thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

My thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Samantha Hayes for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. My opinions are 100% my own and independent of receiving an advanced copy.

This was the worst. I haven’t read a bad book in a while, but this was a snoozer. The conflict happens right at the beginning and then you are left with 300 pages of boring, boring, boring, until the big reveal at the end. I didn’t like any of the characters, I had no sympathy for Ella being abused, honestly, I felt like I was getting a blow in the head each chapter I kept reading. If not for receiving this book from NetGalley, I would not have finished it. But, I felt an obligation and was hoping that it would improve as I went along. Clearly, not everyone, I mean mostly everyone, doesn’t agree with me because it has a 4 star rating on Goodreads. I would interrupt this to mean that it was above average.

So meet Ella. She is a boring non-nondescript person who doesn’t socialize with anyone at her place of work. Riding her bike home, she is in a terrible accident that lands her in the hospital. When she wakes from her coma, her loving husband is there, holding her hand, doting on her. Everyone tells her how lucky she is. Except that she is not married and is clearly afraid of the man who is standing before her. She thought he was long dead. There is history there and he is blackmailing her into going along with his little ruse. We don’t know what Jacob’s name really is and as she recollects the past, we are to figure out who he is. Jacob empties her apartment and moves her into a big new beautiful house. She is kept prisoner there, getting hit for the smallest of infractions. He forces her to quit her job, but WAIT. There is a guy that she has never spoken to, never gone out with, even in a group in a casual setting, won’t even accept a ride home from him, that she smiled at once after years of working there who is suspicious of what is happening. Can he save her? Who is Jacob? Why are her neighbours so nosy? What will happen to Ella??

Geez, sorry, I can’t. It was all too ridiculous. Even if all that worked, the baby thing just put it over the top. I don’t want to go into too much detail, because I don’t want to reveal spoilers for those readers who want to read it. For me, more depth and fully drawn out characters was needed. Spending more time developing them would have allowed the audience to be invested and care about what was happening to them. Too many archetypes were being thrown around, leaving you to fill in the blanks. There were lots of loose ends for characters that a lot of time was spent on, but I’m not sure why? What was the purpose of Meggie? All that buildup that didn’t lead to anywhere? There were plot holes that just made things messy, didn’t make any sense, didn’t serve a purpose and those could have been edited out to make more room developing things that should have been developed. Also, if you have read more than a couple of these mysteries, you know there are bound to be red herrings. Spending three quarters of the book on what was an obvious red herring just ended up being a boring read. The reveal wasn’t so shocking and l was so happy it was over, I didn’t care. Then, the aftermath, was like a Hallmark movie where everyone got their happy ending. Bluch!! If all of it was true, from Ella’s childhood to her relationships to what happened, she needs therapy, not another boyfriend.

So, not for me, but I am just one opinion. Others have found it enjoyable and I am not one to judge. On this one, you will have to decide for yourself.

Wow, what a fantastic read. I have enjoyed Samantha Hayes books for a number of years and this book was one of her best. I was so pleased when she moved to Bookouture as I can now request her books. The Liar’s Wife will have you hooked from the first chapter as we discover that Ellie has been seriously injured in an accident and wakes up in hospital. Her nightmare then begins as her husband has been with her all the time she has been unconscious, but Ellie has never been married! The story is then told in the present and also in the past revealing all Ellie’s secrets. I found the tension building with each chapter and the more I read the more I couldn’t put it down. It is such a compelling read with a final twist at the end. A brilliant, psychological thriller.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

Loved this! I read it in a day which is a sure sign I enjoyed a book. Ella gets knocked off her bike and wakes up from a coma married to someone she knows from her past! But who is it? Flicking from past to present we learn a lot about Anna’s life and now she is being forced to live with a man she hates while trying to figure out a way to escape!
I guessed who Jacob was pretty quickly - but it didn’t spoil it - and the ending tied it up really well.
Really good read and well worth the 5 stars!

Wow ... I absolutely loved this , Could not put it down . when Ella wakes up in hospital after being seriously injured riding her bike home from work , the nurses tell her that her wonderful husband has been with her and will be back soon . The only problem Ella has never been married . to her horror she recognizes her " husband " and must play along with his twisted game as he has something to use against her from the past . Totally over the top almost like a pantomime villain but it was great . I figured out pretty early who her husband was but that didn't take way from my enjoyment at all . brilliant 5 stars from me

This is a fun, twisty, stressful domestic thriller that will have you racing towards the end.
Ella keeps to herself. Work, home, sleep. That’s her mantra and her life. One night biking home from work, she’s hit by a van, and she ends up in the hospital in a coma. When she wakes, there’s a man there claiming to be her husband, but he’s not her husband. In fact, he’s someone she was certain was dead. So certain because she killed him ten years ago. And now he’s back for revenge.

This book was dark, twisty, and wildly entertaining, and even though I predicted the twist early on, I was on the edge of my seat through the whole last third or so. I think this book will appeal to anyone who enjoyed Behind Closed Doors, The Wife Between Us, and Girl On The Train.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy I’m exchange for review!

The Liar’s Wife is a slow burning psychological thriller that once it gets going will leave you reading it with your heart in your mouth.
Ella is the main character and although the timelines bounce from years earlier to present day it is done well so everything makes sense. Ella is living her life as she seems fit, she doesn’t allow herself to have any friends or anyone to get to know her as she has a secret that needs to be kept secret. Ella is involved in a hit and run accident whilst cycling home from work one evening, this leaves her hospitalised with various broken bones. When Ella regains consciousness she is apparently married to the man at her bedside, Jacob, he is familiar and here the story Ramos up.
There were a few red herrings in this thriller to keep you on your toes and the pace after the first quarter of the book was steady but packed with scenarios that kept it interesting. The ending was worth the read leaving me happy as I’d not anticipated what was a thallium revealed.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

This was really, really good! A good old-fashioned twisty, turny psychological thriller. This was the first book I've read by Samantha Hayes. It's one of those "can she escape her secret" stories -- and it's so well done! I'd easily recommend this to fans of the genre. 4/5 stars.

Ellie is a quiet woman who keeps to herself. Her life is embodied in her mantra. “Work, home, sleep...” Until a terrible accident that leaves her in critical condition in the ICU. When she wakes, after a medically induced coma, the kind nurse who is assigned to her tells her how her lovely husband has been by her side everyday. Husband? Wait a second... Ellie is not married... at least she doesn’t remember being married. However, when her husband appears, things become much clearer and much much more alarming.

The Liars Wife is an interesting novel that flips in perspective from Ella, her “husband” and a man she works with named Liam. The telling also flips from past to present until the big reveal near the end. The story grabbed my attention, as I did want to find out how Ella fairs in this novel. However, their are quite a few loose ends left dangling in this story and I wasn’t happy with the twist in the end. Still, it was a book that I kept reading as I wanted to learn what happened. As another reviewer wrote, if you can “suspend your disbelief” while you read the book, it is worth reading.
